iPhone 12 Pro messaging videos with blue / turquoise / cyan video

My partner has a new iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 14.1. Sometimes when she sends videos recorded on the new iPhone 12 Pro via Messages, the recipients get video that is just a solid blue / turquoise / cyan (adding colors to help searchers!) color rather than the actual video content. Audio comes through just fine. It's actual videos (attempting to be) sent, not links to iCloud videos. Might be with bigger videos -- the ones where it's happened have been larger (1:20 or longer). I just used her iPhone 12 Pro to send a video recorded on her old phone, and that transmitted fine.

So, bottom line: looks like longer videos recorded on iPhone 12 Pro sent via messages get video replaced with a solid turquoise image.

Any thoughts?

Go to Settings. Search Camera.

Go to FORMATS, change to Most Compatible instead of High Efficiency.

That should fix the problem.

Yes but why should we have to deactivate anything or change settings? If the phone is made to be able to take videos in this beautiful format then they should figure out why it’s not sending correctly and fix it!!! I’ve literally sent a video from my 12 Pro Max to someone else with the exact same phone and they get it blue!! Which means their phone is capable of taking the exact same videos with the same settings so they clearly should be able to view said videos sent from the same phones.

My wife and I both have iPhone 12 pro phones and are having issues with some videos. Some are fine and others have the issue of the blue/teal video with only audio. In the past a reboot seemed to get the video to come through but the most recent incident (a few moments ago) a reboot would not solve the issue and no matter what the video will not come through properly. The odd thing is, she sent the exact same video to her mother who has a iPhone XR and it worked just fine for her.

Yes still ny fixed. If i AirDrop the it to another phone like IPhone 11 and the sent by viber then it works. What i found is that many of the apps giving the lightblue screen dont support HDR 10bit if i disable HDR then it working in viber.

when you fix this can you please make it possible to turn off HDR post-production?

Yes that fixes the problem for future videos but what about the ones that were taken in the high efficiency format that you need to send? Is there a way to send those? I took video of my friend’s kid during her game and my friend just sees the blue screen and hears the audio. I would really love for her to have the video of her child.

I have a 12 pro max and either High Efficiency (HEIF/HEVC) or Most Compatible (JPGEG/H.264) work for me.

A colleage with a 12 Mini has the blue video problem and changing between High Efficiency or Most Compatible has no effect.

They CAN however airdrop the file to me.

I can then email the video to my own email and it works fine.

Seems perhaps to be something more to do with how the video is encoded to transport via email.

We both have 14.2.1 software on or respective iPhone 12 Mini & Pro Max iPhones.

I find it interesting that apple recommends your answer and it did not work for me. I took some video and was trying to email it to my work email and it came up turquoise when I opened the email I had audio, and a turquoise full screen. So I did your "fix" for the issue and tried again.

Same problem, so I opened my sent email folder and then opened the video I sent and it was turquoise as well, this is on the phone I recorded the video on. This email was sent after I made the switch you recommended.

I am a video editor and need what I shoot for work, this is critical for my job. Any help would be appreciated.

On a side note when I plugged my phone into my computer directly and went to play the video it was a hunter green on the screen. I also used the vlc media player and it did not work there either.

This is also happening to me as well I even send videos less than a minute long and people cannot receive it. Just a blue turquoise screen with sound . Sometimes if I send it three or more times it maybe will go through or sometimes it’ll just “block me” and not let me send them anything anymore not even a photo. I highly rely on sending videos for my career so I don’t know what I’m supposed to do ? I tried to do the quick fix and went into settings but it’s already at high-efficiency? So what now......
