Here is what I heard back from Resound. Let me know if any of this helps you.

Good day Lawrence,

Thank you for contacting ReSound.

I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your new phone. Apple has just released the new iPhone 12 so we can now begin testing for compatibility with ReSound hearing aids as well as our apps. As the iPhone 12 is a newer device and not yet officially compatible, I do not have a lot to go on yet.

You can try a reset of your network settings as this can improve and often resolve many connectivity and streaming issues. If this does not alleviate the issue, I encourage you to contact Apple Accessibility at 877-204-3930

Here are the steps to reset network settings:

Please note: Resetting the network settings may cause the mobile device to forget saved Wi-Fi passwords. * No content or data will be lost.

  • On the phone, go to Settings - Accessibility – Hearing devices
  • Tap on the name/model of hearing aids - tap "forget this device" on the bottom of the next screen and confirm by taping "forget" again
  • Open the hearing aid battery doors. If the hearing aids are rechargeable, place them in the charger now
  • Tap Accessibility in the upper left corner – tap Settings in the upper left corner – General - Reset - Reset Network Settings. You will be prompted for the pass code if the phone is pass code protected. Confirm that you would like to reset network settings by clicking on the red writing in the pop-up box. The mobile device will now reset and restart.

  • Once the mobile device has restarted go to: Settings – Accessibility - Hearing Devices
  • Close the hearing aid battery doors or remove them from the charger
  • Tap on the name/GN/model of hearing aids when they appear
  • Accept all pairing requests

If you take advantage of one of the ReSound apps, you will need to completely close the app out by swiping it away and then relaunch it to allow it to import the information from the fresh pairing.

Good to read, i have Signia-like ear aids, and outside random crackling or white noise, there's also drop on one ear aid before it comes back.

Pretty sure it's due to a new BT chip in iphones 12 series that's need to be tuned correctly before our aids will be okay anew, that's for most brands using MFI, seems only phonak marvel escapes this cause it uses generic bluetooth instead of mfi BT.

I'm mainly using my IP for music listening, unlike some who really needs connection for more than that like calls etc, so i'll keep my 12 pro max order i ll get soon and be patient (having iphone 11 pro max atm, have to sell it, despite my aids working flawlessy with it...).

Afaik, Apple always solved those issues, even if it can take time, i also used their feedback site to explain this.

Told them most brands, siemens, oticon, resound etc are having the sames issues.

I think they are aware if it, let's hope on a fix on 14.3 , brands should also be aware of it and push apple to solve it so dont hesitate to tell your audiologist to report the problem to the brand and iphones 12.

It's not hearing aids manufacturers issues, it's the same for ALL brands, the issue is on Apple side, if i was you i would have insisted on that point with that "tech" (sorry but someone answering that is not a tech, just a lazy guy), and telling him to escalate the problems to THEIR tech support to resolve it.

It's working well with the 11 series, not with the 12 for all HA brands, magic ? no.

And even if a firmware was need by resound, siemens, oticon etc, it's apple that must give the specifics to all brands so they can update the HA firmware, not to the brands to look why it's not working anymore, they wont dissect iphone 12 to see what's inside...

That kind of answer you got is just making me angry more than anything else. "Hey it's not us, it's your brand" the classic ping pong.

Hopefully some ppl at Apple are taking the problem more seriously, and iirc Resound talked with Apple about this.

Btw outside the support form to fill (feedback), i sent a mail to Tim Cook directly to speak about those issues, for what it's worth, i just know he, or his secretaries are taking all mails seriously at least, so for what it's worth, trying cost nothing.

Yes, wait it out in my opinion.

there is a workaround - if you have any of the streaming devices such as the resound minimic. if you use that with your iPhone connecting as you would a headset it works.

specifically, using bluetooth on you phone, setup the streamer so it is properly paired with your ears. Once that is complete turn off the bluetooth on your phone and you will have a solid connection to your ears.. A little convoluted but it will work.. if you do not turn off the bluetooth you will doing the system takes bluetooth as the priority and you've got junk...

I was having this issue with my Signia 7nx hearing aids. The audio would either drop out or be so staticy that it was painful. They worked great on the Xs Max, but the first few days on my 12 pro were terrible. I kept pairing and forgetting them, and each time they seemed to work a little bit better. Power cycling the hearing aids would fix the issue most times. The Hearing Aid Compatibility mode definitely helped, as did the ios update. Every now and then it still does it, but not nearly as much. Hoping that they keep working on the issue.

Bluetooth is broken in iOS14. I spent countless hours with Apple. Reading through numerous forums where people are encountering all kinds of problems with Bluetooth devices e.g speakers, headphones and even the Apple Watch.

They won’t admit to the issue. But it’s huge. I’ve experienced crackling audio, choppy audio, disconnects and reconnects and even disconnects where I have to turn off/on Bluetooth (that’s really the only thing that helps.

I’ve restored my phone multiple times... downgraded and upgraded. Nothing helps.

This is on an IPhone 11 Pro Max with iOS14.2.

I was having drop out issues the first day I setup my new iphone 12 pro with my Resound hearing aids. Then I realized I had not powered off my old phone and it was sitting on my desk. When I went back and forth to my office the aids would connect to the old phone if they were not tied to the new phone. So I'd take a call and the aids would not be connected. Once I powered off my old phone I've had no issues for 3 days now. Also the tip about turning on Hearing Aid Compatibility in the Settings->Accessibility->Hearing Devices section helps. It turns off a noise filter that is used when holding the pone up to your ear to talk. I never do that anymore.

Yes. I upgraded to iPhone 12 Pro last week and wish I had not. My ReSound LiNX3D bluetooth streaming is basically unusable. Garbled sound and constant drop outs. I just finished chatting with the Apple Accessibility team. This is what they had to say:

"At this time we do. Not have any information regarding compatibility with hearing aids and the iPhone 12 launch. I would suggest reaching out to the maker of your hearing aids for any further troubleshooting."

The hearing aids worked great with my 8plus, my iPad and my son's 11 Pro. Who would have thought they would take a step backwards with the 12 Pro? Guess that's what I get for upgrading on release day. Remember the old days when products were tested and bugs fixed BEFORE being released?

Spoke to Apple Accessibility as well.. they agreed that resetting network settings wouldn't do anything if it was already streaming well to other devices, as it is on my phone.. they suggested doing what Resound suggested and also after unpairing, forgetting devices, removing smart 3d app, trying turning off bluetooth, and restarting phone, then turning on bluetooth reinstalling app, pairing hearing aidss and restarting app... I tried this, but before restarting app a call came in from apple to check how it was going.. all sounded good, but the call was only 1 minute long before I restarted app... and repaired hearing aids using app.. then problems began again.. This made us think it might be app.. so I repeated all of above, without reinstalling app.. and just pairing hearing aids using accessibility on apple.. thought it was working fine but after 30 sec or so problem re-emerged.. so none of these fixes have worked.. just fyi.. both resound and apple are now looking into this.

Good stuff steveem. I have a ReSound TV Streamer 2 that should work the same way. Audio out from the phone using the lightening plug headphone adapter, into the streamer with bluetooth to the hearing aids. I do know the Streamer still works fine so this should work well for a band aid until we get a permanent fix.

Not a great solution in the car, trying to drive a stick at the same time :-), but should work well in the office.

Thanks for posting this strategy.

Purchased iphone 12Pro and paired with Resound Linx 3D. Cracking and switching from ear to ear and echo. My Resounds work perfectly with my 11Pro and Resound TV streamers. Talked with Apple accessibility. Tech told me it was a hardware problem and I needed a firmware update on hearing aids. Talked with Resound. They told me they do not have firmware updates and it was an Apple hardware problem on the iPhone 12. I returned the 12Pro.
