iPhone 12 losing service

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:

  • Baseband and Telephony Logging
  • CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

I pushed a little bit the research and I found on Reddit a lot of people talking about the same issue not only on Verizon (my carrier) but also on AT&T. Just use the title I typed and you will find the article.

I never had such issue with the 11pro.

I am surprised this situation has not been addressed properly by the carriers or Apple. They each seem to be ignoring and hoping the problem will go away. Which it will NOT!

Imagine paying hard earned money for a product that only works, "part-time"? Clearly that would be frustrating for all consumers. Nobody likes to waste money.

I was already given a replacement phone and SIM cards and guess what-neither of them corrected the issue. Once again today I have 1 bar, 1 bar of signal strength at home. My phone is resting on the table and only has 1 bar. No reason for that. Unacceptable. Then when I left the house for a short drive, I lost all signal strength for about 4 minutes, had to go in and out of airplane mode for the signal strength to reset. UNACCEPTABLE!

Mine seems to be a little better after the update but when it switched from LTE to 5G the person I was talking to couldn't hear me but I could hear them. That's the same issue I've been having on LTE. I had 5G turned off. Now it seems to work on LTE only better but still not on 5G. All of this happens with full service/5 bars.

Beachwalker5-Interesting you say that because when I phoned Verizon last week they told me something very different. Their instructions were keep data roaming on, voice and date should be set to 5G Auto and Data Mode set to allow more data on 5G.

Has that worked for me? Not really because just today I had no bars when I went to my car. I ended up using some advice posted earlier and went to airplane mode on and off again. Took a few minutes but eventually I did receive bars/signal and back to normal. Tell you what-this is not how a phone is supposed to work. Especially for the price we pay to use this phone. I'm very disappointed with my carrier and with Apple because these sort of things should not be happening.

iPhone Mini

Verizon

USA

Did the update to 14.3. WAY better signal strength. Haven't dropped a call yet and it's making the handoff between 5g and LTE much much better.

The only weird thing I have now is when I'm on 5g and doing a speed test, it's only showing about 30mb down. I haven't seen anything faster. So really it's like having an LTE phone. No speed benefit. I do like the size of the mini though :)

This is an update: fortunately my fix has allowed my IPhone 12 mini to consistently keep ‘bars’ but unfortunately the phone is very inconsistent in receiving calls. Some calls ring through normally while others go immediately to voice mail and leave no indication the a call has been missed or voice mail! I can’t afford to spend more time with Apple (or Verizon) trying to make this phone reliable. The techs have all been very nice and worked hard to help but the bottom line is that I need a phone to work today. Therefore Verizon, very kindly, reactivated my old cheap flip phone and I will be returning this iPhone with the plan to repurchase it when they remove all the bugs. I hope Apple gets their act together before before they develop a reputation for subpar products.

I'm assuming I'm not the only one on this thread, but last night I got a call from Apple that wanted a lot of information about my problems (which are much less of an issue than others). They wanted tons of information...what chargers I was using, what precisely happened when calls got dropped.....I never could get specifics as to what they thought was going on, but the implication was that the problem was with the carriers. Just posting this, because they clearly are aware of this problem and are following this thread.

I have the same cellular dropping issue here in Mexico and my device is iPhone 12 Pro Max, the service is dropping and returning back in 5 seconds but every 10 minutes.

I saw people suffering the same issue on iPhone 12 family regardless of the software version.

I recorded two videos of the issue, the service drops without driving or moving from my location or even using the cellular data just screen recording of my idle iPhone.

Video #1: https://youtu.be/KfDVEdgTD6w

Video #2: https://youtu.be/2l6icHBrF0M

I did reset the network settings but with no success and the issue remains, hope it's a software issue.

I just got an iphone 12 pro 2 weeks ago and it's been dropping calls several times a day. Using both wifi and 5G. And standing in one place, not even driving, as many people have stated. I'm also not getting all my text messages. I'm with Verizon. Apple says it's Verizon's fault and Verizon says it's Apple's fault. I feel like I should be offered a refund by Apple.

My 2nd 12 mini is still having issues. Verizon thought they fixed the problem but the 2nd new phone has done nothing.

I have a 11 as a work phone and with a different carrier that my employer pays for. I notice day after day this phone has no issues and the signal strength is consistently high. Much higher than the 12 mini with another carrier.

This issues have to be with the 12 models and the carriers, no?

My Wife and I just Activated our brand new iPhone 12 Pro phones with Verizon. The Voice or Audio drops completely out and you can't hear the other person until the Voice returns. It keeps fading in and out while driving. I don't appreciate paying $1,100 a piece on brand new iPhone's for to be having complete loss of Voice or Signal problems. Verizon puts these 5G Tech Commercials out on TV like they have been doing all of this testing of their new 5G network. Apparently there is a major Apple iPhone 12\12 Pro issue going on with the new iPhones or it is a problem with Verizon's Network.

The major question is, Who is going to step in and take responsibility to fix these new iPhone 12 issues?
