iPhone 12 losing service

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:

  • Baseband and Telephony Logging
  • CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

I pushed a little bit the research and I found on Reddit a lot of people talking about the same issue not only on Verizon (my carrier) but also on AT&T. Just use the title I typed and you will find the article.

I never had such issue with the 11pro.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max on Verizon (Orlando, Florida) had connectivity issues, dropped and failed calls. Spoke with Verizon support earlier today and they were able to help me resolve the issue:

  • Settings
  • Cellular
  • Cellular data options
  • Voice & Data - select > LTE

5G is very weak in Orlando and my iPhone used to disconnect because it was on > 5G AUTO (it was trying to connect to 5G network which was almost absent and then trying to switch back to LTE). If 5G is bad in your area, there is no point to try connecting to it. Just use LTE network only and you should have no issues with dropped calls (I hope it helps).

I have the same issues with my new Verizon iPhone 12. I drop service randomly in areas that should have the strongest signal (driving through a big city). I always had service in these areas with my iphone XR. It's very frustrating and I usually have to turn the phone off and back on to get it to recover the service. I did have an issue with my XR where it wouldn't recover signal after losing it, but I was in a bad service area. This is way worse.

Clearly you have no clue how VPN’s work and how data is anonymous. This issue here is not caused by a VPN. This is a greater issue as even phones with no VPN configuration added to device. By the way there is little to no difference between a corporate VPN and a VPN service such as NORDVPN. The only difference is the purpose. It’s ran on the fundamentally same technologies.

You ask what country host the servers for *my* VPN? I do not use a VPN unless I am on a third party WiFi network. If you know how networking works, this is your greatest risk. I use NordVPN which has servers pretty much every country but North Korea. Which you can set up NordVPN with no app and simply add it just as you would a private business ran VPN.

If the issue is resolved by uninstalling the app then the issue still lies with Apple and not the VPN app. But seeing that I have no VPN app and have the issue, I dispute your statement that this resolves anything.

Go spend some time learning about networking and VPNs.

Jumping in here, I have no vpn app installed and I still have a issue... so I would say not a vpn app issue. I even did what Verizon told me get a new sim didn’t work, turn off 5g didn’t work, updated to 14.2 didn’t work. I see a carrier update was implemented in the update but nothing has changed the fact the phone drops all coverage for no reason.

Hey, hi, it’s me again on WiFi because my phone is a paperweight without it...Has apple recognized this as an issue yet? Or are we all supposed to just connect to WiFi wherever we go because we have no service without it? I convinced Verizon to send me a new SiM, but then found out after that it more than likely won’t fix the issue. I’d rather have my iPhone XS with sprints terrible coverage than have this issue lol.

If you have done all that troubleshooting with Support, including replacing SIM, resetting network settings, restoring the phone with your computer, contacting the carrier for new SIM and taking the phone to Apple Store, what else do you think can be suggested?

Your scorn for me trying to help is inappropriate and you nay be pleased to hear this is my last post here.
