iPhone 12 losing service

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:

  • Baseband and Telephony Logging
  • CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

I pushed a little bit the research and I found on Reddit a lot of people talking about the same issue not only on Verizon (my carrier) but also on AT&T. Just use the title I typed and you will find the article.

I never had such issue with the 11pro.

I am surprised this situation has not been addressed properly by the carriers or Apple. They each seem to be ignoring and hoping the problem will go away. Which it will NOT!

Imagine paying hard earned money for a product that only works, "part-time"? Clearly that would be frustrating for all consumers. Nobody likes to waste money.

I was already given a replacement phone and SIM cards and guess what-neither of them corrected the issue. Once again today I have 1 bar, 1 bar of signal strength at home. My phone is resting on the table and only has 1 bar. No reason for that. Unacceptable. Then when I left the house for a short drive, I lost all signal strength for about 4 minutes, had to go in and out of airplane mode for the signal strength to reset. UNACCEPTABLE!

Setting ip new phones or computers as new then only transferring back important data like photos, music and docs has always been my preferred setup.

I keep media on my mac and sync back, and keep all documents in a cloud. So I can easily set up phone as new any time I like.

The whole reason for “backup and restore” is for people who keep everything live on the phone and in particular social media history.

If you manage media and data externally and have a healthy disregard for ‘what who said what about who’ in Whatsapp then the clean sheet setup typically has many less bugs.

Seminar over.

12 Pro Max, not a single dropped call or other issue since I received it, on AT&T, and hundreds of others I work with have also had no issues with AT&T.

As far as other countries, it's likely an issue with a single vendor of cellular equipment that AT&T does not use in the US but that Verizon does and that AT&T may use in other countries.

3 phones, 2 max pro and 1 pro as stated a month ago, ATT and one of the pro max has a T-Moble eSim same problem as everyone else.

Some people on here are stating if you do a clean install and do not transfer the data from an old phone that they do not have problems, since you have hundreds was that the case? Did you do clean installs or use some corporate software to update them?

I have the iPhone 12 Pro with a 5G/4G enabled carrier in Spain. I'm also experiencing the same issues, doesn't matter which location I'm at or if I'm moving around. It's almost constantly dropping(3-10min intervals) the connection while switching between 4/5G. Practically the phone is unusable on anything else than my WiFi connection.

I find it amazing so many Apple customers here are experiencing issues that are very well known and Apple will not lift a finger as of yet to repair the issue.

I posted weeks ago how an Apple customer service rep emailed me and called me and that lasted about 2 phone calls & many broken promises later. Fast forward to today and that person has not replied to any other emails and has not called me again as promised. Now let that sink in for a few seconds and ask yourself if our outrage over these brand new, $1,000 phones is justified or not?

I wish I would have kept my 11 pro and skipped this... I've always kinda blindly trusted upgrading every year, but after this debacle, I will forever be skeptical. This to me is one of the worst screw ups Apple has made. The Reddit, ATT, VZW, and Apple forums are full of this same complaint and its a big one! NO SERVICE and DEACTIVATED phones are not small issues and should be addressed immediately.
