iPhone 12 losing service

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:

  • Baseband and Telephony Logging
  • CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

I pushed a little bit the research and I found on Reddit a lot of people talking about the same issue not only on Verizon (my carrier) but also on AT&T. Just use the title I typed and you will find the article.

I never had such issue with the 11pro.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max on Verizon (Orlando, Florida) had connectivity issues, dropped and failed calls. Spoke with Verizon support earlier today and they were able to help me resolve the issue:

  • Settings
  • Cellular
  • Cellular data options
  • Voice & Data - select > LTE

5G is very weak in Orlando and my iPhone used to disconnect because it was on > 5G AUTO (it was trying to connect to 5G network which was almost absent and then trying to switch back to LTE). If 5G is bad in your area, there is no point to try connecting to it. Just use LTE network only and you should have no issues with dropped calls (I hope it helps).

This is an update: fortunately my fix has allowed my IPhone 12 mini to consistently keep ‘bars’ but unfortunately the phone is very inconsistent in receiving calls. Some calls ring through normally while others go immediately to voice mail and leave no indication the a call has been missed or voice mail! I can’t afford to spend more time with Apple (or Verizon) trying to make this phone reliable. The techs have all been very nice and worked hard to help but the bottom line is that I need a phone to work today. Therefore Verizon, very kindly, reactivated my old cheap flip phone and I will be returning this iPhone with the plan to repurchase it when they remove all the bugs. I hope Apple gets their act together before before they develop a reputation for subpar products.

I have the same cellular dropping issue here in Mexico and my device is iPhone 12 Pro Max, the service is dropping and returning back in 5 seconds but every 10 minutes.

I saw people suffering the same issue on iPhone 12 family regardless of the software version.

I recorded two videos of the issue, the service drops without driving or moving from my location or even using the cellular data just screen recording of my idle iPhone.

I did reset the network settings but with no success and the issue remains, hope it's a software issue.

This may be the last iPhone I buy! iPhone 12 has been the worst phone. It glitches, I can’t use my WiFi, I can’t connect to 5g, I can’t use data. I wish I wouldn’t have upgraded to this. I have bought iPhones for 10 years. This might be the one that breaks me. Constant issues. I use my phone all day for work but have so many problems I may have to trade back in so I can get my work done! Fix the problems!

I just experienced this at work too. I thought iPhone 12 pro only has the cellular connection issue, but Friday, I chose to keep using cellular and opt out the WiFi at work in the morning, then could not reconnect, tried airplane mode, turn WiFi on and off several time.s. Finally turn off phone 2 times, after one hour of trying to reconnect to WiFi.

this is bad.

14.3.0 has helped me. I'm down to 4 disconnects in 5 days. That's down from 3-4 a day with 14.2.1 and 6-8 disconnects a day with 14.2.0.

I've done all the other remediations -- replaced phone, replaced SIM, upgraded to a 5G plan, reset, restore. I have a 12 Pro Mx with Verizon in suburban Phoenix. I always have 2 bars in normal usage and always have 2 bars once I reconnect.

I have the newest and latest Software Update 14.3 on these brand new iPhones. Had a Verizon high-level tech support work on both our new iphone's today changing & resetting some of the settings. Still did not fix anything. My wife had two more dropped calls just sitting there talking to the person. Never ever had this issue on our older Verizon iPhones.

Something is very, very wrong here with very expensive phones. I only have until January 15th to get this problem resolved or I am stuck with useless expensive iphones that drop your calls for no reason.

I have had the same issues.

Apple has a major problem on its hands with the iPhone 12 Pro (and the 12 series). I don’t want cute updates to take a picture. I want the next update to fix and address the most basic part of my device—to make phone calls!!!

I can’t say the R_ _all word, because Apple will delete my post. But unfortunately, it may be needed for thousands of customers, if software updates can’t fix their product so it can work as advertised!!!!

I had the problem from day 1 with my 12 Pro. I did the iOS 14.3 update last Monday and haven’t had an issue since. The phone has been flawless. I did notice that it updated my carrier and modem firmware as well. It seems to me that they are working on it and it will eventually be fixed worldwide. I’m in southeastern NC and seems like they have taken care of the issue here. I’m pretty sure it was the carrier update that fixed it.

This issue is clearly documented to impact 10 of thousands of users worldwide on all the carriers. People on AT&T are facing the issue. Not all the users are experiencing it.

People posting here just represent a fractions of the people experiencing issues. With No Service in area with perfect reception issue, more and more people are posting and sharing their experiences on other forums too. When you combine all the feedbacks it represent a large number.

After upgrading to 14.3 and modem version 45.0 I'm still experiencing the issue. Now it looks like the phone is starting to pick the network after losing it.

Before it was showing No Service. Phone not activated. Now it is a mix. Sometime the phone shows no service and sometime the phone shows searching for at least 10mns then Suddenly picked up the network again.

But when I see Searching on the iphone screen and I look at the other device I have to benchmark running on a different os this device shows full reception.
