iCloud Drive keeps on loading – iCloud Drive not available in WhatsApp and other apps: "Couldn't communicate with a helper application" when tapping a file in files app.

Hi,

I've been browsing the internet for hours and couldn't find any real help on this matter. So I just wanted to make sure that a solution was put on the internet to prevent any unnecessary factory reset.

After having to downgrade from iOS 14.2 (Beta) to iOS 14.1, I couldn't back up my WhatsApp chats or any data that would be saved in iCloud Drive through first-party or third-apps. If I tried, the apps would've told me to go to the settings and activate iCloud Drive. Which – it already was.

Opening the iCloud Drive app, I was greeted with the "iCloud Drive is loading" screen (see here). Switching to the "History" tab within the "files" app and tapping a random file saved on iCloud Drive gave me the warning/error: "couldn't communicate with a helper application".

I've turned off iCloud Drive in the setting for multiple times, nothing has changed.

I tried to make it all work by resetting the settings (and so on) – but to cut things short, one thing helped me: before you turn iCloud Drive back on, restart your iPhone. Then turn your iCloud Drive setting back on.

I hope that helps.

All the best

Kaley
