iPhone 12 w/ iOS 14.1 poor hearing aid connectivity

Ever since upgrading from my iPhone 11 Max to my iPhone 12 Max, my ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aids are having connection and quality issues. I'm experiencing a lot of static and in general a touchy connection where one or both ears will cut sound. Often times just turning my head sometimes cuts out sound from one ear. It seems the iPhone needs to be VERY close to work as well, the distance (like laying on my desk) causes increased static and stability issues. Anyone else having a similar issue?

Just got an iPhone 12 and am also having hearing aid issues. Connection is not an issue but the right one has a lot of interference on phone calls, enough that I have to remove it when on the phone. Left is OK. I have Oticon miniRite and did not have an issue with my iPhone 8. Had not upgraded to iOS 14 on the 8 so don't know if it is a phone issue or iOS issue.

Although my left hearing aid has most of the static I have some in the right as well. Don't think that solution will work for me,. Thanks for the information. Glad to know they are "working on it". My phone was just purchased so I have some time to return it. Don't really want to pay Verizon's restocking fee but if there is not a fix in the next several weeks I will be switching to another kind of phone.

Thanks for the kind of fix. Since it does not work I am not even wear my left hearing aid. Talked with Verizon folks and they will allow me to install Wydex app on a new Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G phone to see how it works. If it is ok I will be sending my Mini back. Hate to pay restocking fee but I want a phone that will function properly with my hearing aids. As I said before makes me sad.

The only thing I have found helpful is to go settings > accessibility > hearing devices > hearing aids > and disable streaming to either the left or the right ear. I can disable one or the other and the single hearing aid streams fine. When I enable both thats when i get connection problems in one of my hearing aids. Its never the same one. Once I disable streaming to a single hearing aid the one still enabled works fine.

Some people have said to set the output to mono and this has helped them but I have not had any luck with that trick.

If you want to try that here is how you set it. settings > accessibility > audio/visual > mono audio on.

Apple is aware o the issue and is supposedly working on a solution.

Apple is aware of the problem and their engineers are working on a fix, hard to say when they'll come up with it.

I have found that opening some apps on my iPhone 12 Pro will prompt the static, Alexa and The Weather Channel apps are two examples. Incoming phone calls will definitely trigger static. Currently my left hearing aid is the one with the issue. But that can change...meaning the right side will also have static. But never both at the same time.

I'm wearing Oticon Opn 2 miniRITE

I’m also using Beta 14.3 version 2. So far seems ok. Clicking and disconnection occurred once within the first couple of minutes of playing music. Still listening 30 mins later and working seamlessly. I can also connect to sound sense learn (Widex Moment 440) and managed to create a new programme which I hadn’t been able to with 14.2.

My teenage son installed it so I can’t help I’m afraid but he just googled the procedure and managed easily. I’ll update in a couple of days......

I’m probably going to regret saying this ‘out loud’ but having had the same issues with my 12 Pro and going through the card with Apple Support and Accessibility Support and multiple resets of settings and unpairing/pairing etc etc I thought well I’m just going to have to sit and wait patiently for a fix - I’d traded my old phone in so couldn’t revert to that. With that I thought I’d just reboot my phone without making any changes whatsoever and magically my UK Specsavers Advance (a Signia aid) have been working without major issues since.

Yes, occasionally the connection to one ear may drop and then reconnect, but no worse than when used with my iPhone 10. I stream music when I go on my daily 2 hour walk and all working fine. No static noise since the phone reboot.

The only setting I have disabled is ‘Play system sounds’.

Hope this isn’t a case of ‘famous last words’!

Thanks for the Tip, I updated to 14.1. On Tues night. Wed I only experienced minimal improvement. I can’t handle the frustration of the loud static! I will shut the Bluetooth off for a short time waiting for a fix. This is only a short term solution. I depend on the ability to take calls on my hearing aids for my business. WE NEED A FIX OR Credit to downgrade to iPhone 11. Please advise on the status of the fix? Insurance74

So far OSI 14.3 developer beta 2 seems to be working. Had four phone calls and listened to music for last two hours with no static or dropped right/left hearing aids. Will keep you posted if it stops working or breaks anything else. Thanks to all for emotional support and technical advice.

Good article on how to install beta. DO NOT INSTALL TILL YOU BACK UP YOUR PHONE!!!!!!! Not too technical but remember it is a beta so you install at your own risk.

Took about two hours to install but I have a fairly slow internet connection. Once again thanks!
