Screen Time not blocking/affecting Chrome after iOs 14 update

After the new update the Screen Time doesn't block or limit Chrome. In fact Chrome doesn't even show up in the "Always Allowed" section as an option.

Any solution to this?

iPhone 11, iOS 14

I have found a solution! It's not perfect, but I've been testing it and it just about works:

  1. On the device in question, go to this address: chrome://flags/
  2. Then search for "screentime" (all one word).
  3. You should see: Enables ScreenTime Integration
  4. Switch this to ENABLED.

It's a bit glitchy, but this is the feature that they're working on. And it locks Chrome in the way you'd expect it to.

Another thing is, Microsoft Edge actually is able to get blocked, why not Chrome? (Safari cant be blocked because its a system app but any website can be blocked.) It happens to me and sense Chrome for iOS and iPadOS is not in any way built on Safari. And kids can reset because Settings, isn't block-able. So kids can obviously reset, only if restrictions are on. Then here comes Find My, obviously doesn't like restrictions that much because it beats the crap out of it (as a metaphor), and a update to this would be very helpful for the parents out there.

I have too discovered this issue and am mega p**sed off. There I am thinking I have the right controls set on my 12 years old iPhone only to find that he can, not only have unlimited access to Chrome but also when I remove the **** app, he can freely download it without Apple Screentime sending me an 'permission request'. There is a serious issue here.

Hi, I am having the same issue after the update to the new IOS version, I am not a member of Family Sharing Group and my Chrome app is the most updated version. But as bartoon mentioned, I can not block chrome with screen time now with the new IOS.

I used to be able to block my browser so that I can sleep early with the older version of IOS. Your help with blocking chrome on the new IOS will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

We are having this issue with Chrome as well.

I suppose I could make her delete the Chrome app, then turn off family sharing for my kid so she can’t re-download it. But I shouldn’t have to do that. If there is an app on her phone, I should be able to set a limit for it. Otherwise what is the point of having Screen Time?

Hi, I have had the same problem for months. I noticed that when you look at how Chrome and Safari are categorized, they are both listed as "system" applications. Safari does not get "greyed out" during downtime for me either, though I believe my kid cannot access web sites via safari. Chrome is free reign during downtime though. Please help, Apple!

Also, do you think that this type of bug is just a completely unintended consequence of the iOS 14 update? Or is it Google wanting to make people use their management app to manage screen time (though it only will manage android devices currently) or is it Apple trying to get people to dedicate their web browser use to solely Safari (which would be fine...but Google Chrome does usually work for sites that Safari does not, in my experience).

There are so many conflicts of interest and incentives across the board..... At the end of the day I think they all want us to be endlessly scrolling, absorbing ads, and spending $....

That's another wonky workaround.

Parents CAN'T limit apps in their entirety, you must set a 1-minute limit. So, the moment any of my kids access an Apple device, they get a slew of messages their app limits will expire in 1 minute. Even I have to admit to them, "Yeah, it's dumb."

And then there's the 11:59 PM setting if you want to block out an entire day, for example, if you want to limit apps to weekend use only, all the weekdays have to be set start at 11:59 PM (and end at midnight); I suppose that's a feature not a bug.

There used to be (pre 'Catalina') a system preference called "Parental Controls" that worked somewhat well. It tied users to devices and you could limit total time on a device, or time of day, or school days vs. weekends. The merging of that functionality into Screen Time has failed... At the worst possible time for kids:
