Screen Time not blocking/affecting Chrome after iOs 14 update

After the new update the Screen Time doesn't block or limit Chrome. In fact Chrome doesn't even show up in the "Always Allowed" section as an option.

Any solution to this?

iPhone 11, iOS 14

I have found a solution! It's not perfect, but I've been testing it and it just about works:

  1. On the device in question, go to this address: chrome://flags/
  2. Then search for "screentime" (all one word).
  3. You should see: Enables ScreenTime Integration
  4. Switch this to ENABLED.

It's a bit glitchy, but this is the feature that they're working on. And it locks Chrome in the way you'd expect it to.

Screentime is simply not fit for purpose, which, given that it’s a marketed as a safeguarding tool, must put Apple on shaky legal ground. I’m surprised it’s been this buggy and flakey for so long.

it’s not just that there are bugs like this, it’s also that it’s unintuitive to set up and use. At least do some basic usability testing on it before you launch it, Apple!

I have too discovered this issue and am mega p**sed off. There I am thinking I have the right controls set on my 12 year old son's iPhone only to find that he can, not only have unlimited access to Chrome but also when I remove the d**n app, he can freely download it without Apple Screentime sending me a 'permission request'. There is a serious issue here. Apple and Google fix it!

Thanks for the link. Im aware and wrote them there a month ago.

BUT APPLE ARE THE ONES WHO WHITELISTED CHROME FROM SCREEN TIME! (I’m yelling at Apple)

Not even the content filter works, so now I can watch porn all day long, which is bad for the environment. So Apple saving in on the chargers (for the environment) won’t measure up for the loss caused by Chrome/Apples white list.

And what am I doing here at this hour!

@johnnyW2001

Thanks for your help. But my kids still could find the way to get around it.

Your solution seems workable only when we close the app.

When we reopen the app again, my kids can’t access YouTube. But she opens a new tab and that’s simple! She can access YouTube. So, I close the app and reopen, it is ok. Screentime works. But again, she close the tab and open new tab. And she can access YouTube again.

Any solution please ?

White this might be a solution for the ones of you having small kids, this doesn’t help for kids that need Chrome occasionally during daytime.

Neither does it work for people who want to block them selves out, as you need to know the primary Code every time you need Chrome.

We want Chrome to filter and work as any other app!

Besides, what happened to its URL-filter!? It doesn’t work at all! Now I can watch thongs all day long! 💦

Ive already tried that, App Store has been blocked the whole time. As I mentioned before, because Chrome has already been authorised, one does not need to go through App Store again to download Chrome. If you simply 'search' for Chrome on your Apple mobile like you're looking for any of your other apps it recognises that you once had Chrome and allows user to download it again but this time without the need for any permissions...its very strange.

This is ridiculous. I noticed my sons screen time had an additional hour of usage after I sent him to bed last night. But it was gray, with no category.

This morning I called him out and asked how he did it. He told me Chrome just works all the time. So I go into settings and chrome isn’t even listed anywhere as an app to put restrictions on.

How does an app that provides uncensored access to the internet completely BYPASS Apples screen time / parental control settings??

THIS WORKED!!!!!! I’ve been trying to solve this problem for days now. I did the flags thing, deleted and reset screen time limits, the whole thing. You are the Apple genius! I didn’t even know that screen had a pull down search bar. Genius.

also - I set the downtime on the phone to run from 5:00am to 4:59 am, every day, so now my son has to ask for time for every app he wants to access.

awsbikes A million thank yous!!!
