iPhone 12 battery drain overnight

My iphone 12 is just 2 days old and I am facing really bad battery drain overnight. I had almost 90% left for couple of days before I had gone to sleep and woke up with a remaining battery of around 65%. The battery chart has nothing for these hours. And moreover my mail push is set to manual and I had turned off wifi, bluetooth, location and mobile data. Is there something I can do to stop this?

It doesn't take much to understand that if your battery drains from 88 percent to 30 percent while IDLE and not being used in the middle of the night, that there's a problem. Doesn't take a level 10 to understand that. It's a problem that needs fixed. This entire thread is exactly about trying to SOLVE that problem. Some level 10's dismiss any discussion about it and write people off as un-intelligent because they don't agree with your bandaid approach of constantly having to plug the phone in. Is it helpful to write people off who are looking for a real solution? Does that qualify as "helping people for many years?" And I'm about to leave this forum for good, as it seems to have some level 10s that are quite dismissive of any other opinion than theirs in regards to my comments. All I got was grief from this forum, and all because I dared to want to solve a big problem with my phone. Shame on me. I should just be quiet and plug my phone in and do as the level 10s say, because they're the smart ones.

Can confirm this problem. My iPhone 12 lost 27% battery over a 6 hour night. At this rate of discharge, the settings are irrelevant. This is simply not acceptable.

This discharge happened even with background mode turn off for most apps, being connected to wifi, and no apps running. Cellular was on with 5G set to auto. 0 minutes screen on and 0 minutes screen off time during the night.

iphone 12 mini update here. I thought some settings i turned off helped, and one night they did but ever since i am back to losing 20-25% per night. I have turned off even more things like my night shift schedule, all background app refresh, all data connection options. I even use low power mode when i get below 50%. I am very upset, this is the worst battery i’ve experienced on a new phone and i hope they come up with a solution fast.

Really unprofessional from their sight.

You seem to be under the impression you are speaking with Apple and that Apple participates here? They don't. This is a user to user only forum and Apple isn't here. Just other users.

Well that's the thing. I'm not sure waiting for a software update will fix this for you and most others having this. We have iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max. Neither has any battery drain issues. And having been on this forum for over a decade, there have been folks like you who have battery drain for sure, but it's rarely caused by a software issue with iOS. It's most often a result of a bad transfer of data from a previous phone to the new phone. Or an app which didn't get updated to the current iOS which is draining power. Or in the case of iPhone 12 with 5G capabilities, the wrong sim, or the phone constantly checking for 5G service when it may be spotty or non-existent in the area the phone is at night. In that case, changing the setting from 5G or 5G Auto to LTE may be enough to help.

And finally, I still don't understand WHY people don't just charge their phones while they sleep? The phone will not only charge, but will backup and be ready for a full day's use when one gets up in the morning. Virtually ALL of us who have been on this forum for years, do this nightly.

Charging the phone overnight is not a solution. Thats completely a personal preference and depends on the individual. Personally I don't prefer charging the phone overnight for various reasons. Moreover if this happens on idle during the night then it definitely means its happens during the day as well and its just not noticeable.

The point here is buying an expensive device and no one likes or wants the device to behave in an abnormal way which definitely is. I do believe Apple knows this issue and are working on it. Hope to see a fix soon.

I just wish I could figure out why the screen won't shutoff after receiving an alert. It doesn't do it all day long, but every single alert that comes through at night.... keeps the screen backlight on until I wake up and hit the side button. I have watched it for 5 minutes and it doesn't shutoff and almost any time I wake up in the middle of the night... my screen is on. I am convinced this has something to do with it. I just can't figure out why it doesn't do it all of the time.

While charging while you sleep makes sense, your analogy is actually pretty poor. Even if the phone is charging it still functions and you can still use said phone. Unlike driving a car without lights at night, which would be illegal, dangerous and foolish. Is there a reason you object to charging your phone while you're asleep? Does it in any way interfere with you sleeping? Can it harm the phone? Is the phone unable to operate while being charged?

Of course not to all three questions.

But you are missing the bigger picture. If your phone is draining over night, you need to figure out what is the root cause of the drain. You're just complaining about your phone's battery draining and there have been multiple suggestions provided throughout this thread to try to isolate the cause.

Read carefully all threads. I already reported a potential root cause. In my case, it is connected with active 2 SIM cards. Once I disable 1 SIM card, issue is gone. However it seems this root cause is not applicable for all cases of battery drain. Anyway I reported my observations to Apple.

All I want to say is charging over night is NOT a solution. Imagine battery drain even during the day, when you use your phone, drop from 95% to 33% after 7 hours WITHOUT any activity is just not okay.
