Homepod suddenly can't access my Apple Music library.

Last week, I began to have this issue. I'll ask Siri on my Homepod to shuffle or play my library, and she'll say, "Playing all songs, shuffled," or something to that effect. Then, after a moment, she says, "Sorry, there was a problem with Apple Music." This just began two weekends ago. Before that, if I asked her to shuffle my library, she'd do it.

As far as troubleshooting goes, I feel like I've tried everything. I've done a full reset of my Homepod more than once. I've gone into its settings to make sure it's on the same WiFi as my iPhone. When I ask Siri to shuffle my library anywhere else, she does so with no problem. It's only on my Homepod. Also, she has no problem shuffling or playing specific playlists I've created in my library.

My Homepod version is 14.1, according to the settings in my Home app.

HomePod, 14

I FOUND THE SOLUTION! Here was my problem: after resetting it’d work for a little bit and then stop. The problem was that I was using my HomePod to connect to my Apple TV to listen to music. It doesn’t work that way. You’d have to switch your audio output back to the tv in order to tell Siri to play music or else she’ll say, “okay, playing music. I’m sorry, something seems to be wrong with your Apple Music.”

My wife discovered a similar problem with our HomePod in November 2020. I didn’t really try to diagnose it until a few days ago. After all the normal attempts at troubleshooting I finally contacted Support. It wasn’t until I removed and re-added the accessory that I stumbled onto the issue. We joined Apple One subscription when it was released. But the problem is that I have two separate Apple ID accounts. One which I’ve had since since the very beginning of iTunes. So it has my iTunes Match and all of our music and movie purchases. Then I have my me.com Apple ID which I use for personal iCloud Drive, iCloud Photo Storage, etc. Without realizing it, I signed up for Apple One using my me.com Apple ID. I believe this is when I introduced the problem with my HomePod and Apple Music. I noticed that my HomePod settings showed the me.com account for my HomePod music account. I didn’t think about that at the time. But when I removed and reconfigured the HomePod, it correctly showed the two Apple IDs in the Transfer Settings step. It had the correct accounts for iCloud and Music. After transferring those settings, HomePod worked to play Apple Music via Siri. The timing of this problem seems very close to the introduction of Apple One. Perhaps others are having the same issue?

Been struggling with this issue as well. Went through the troubleshooting steps outlined in previous posts here to no avail. Called Apple for additional support (not much there other than an acknowledgement of the problem, but she was extremely gracious in attempting to help). However, during the troubleshooting, I may have stumbled on the solution (have sat on this for five days to make sure things were working prior to posting). I'm on 14.3. Troubleshooting was via my iPhone 10 on 14.3 as well. Go to HomeKit and tap on the speaker icon. You'll see a basic music control interface (fast forward/play/rewind)...scroll down to the menu settings titled "SIRI." Turn "On" "Personal Requests". I don't know why it isn't the default setting, but it was "Off" when I originally found the setting during the troubleshooting call and toggled it to "On"...put tech on hold, tested voice control of my apple music library, and voila...hasn't missed a beat since then. Sure hope it helps everyone else here as well!

My issue was solved after investigation by Apple Care.

• I am using a mesh-network

• Homepod mini was constantly not finding Music on Music oder just stopping

Solution:

• Issue was the nodes of the Wifi being in „Router Mode“ instead of „Access Point Mode“ (Asus Zen Wifi)

• This caused the Homepod minis receiving more than one IP address and obviously Apple Music doesn‘t like that (I suppose it is an internal logic to prevent fraud with the account)

Switched to Access Point Mode in the Asus router app —> issue immediately solved

Pretty much immediately after I posted this I solved everything… I’m pleased to announce… I didn’t have to fiddle with the router or anything basically I think the one step I had not done before was going into both of my devices which is my iPhone 12 and my iPad mini and actually signing out of Apple Music and signing back in and I signed out of and back into a couple other things it wasn’t difficult or tedious I did also remove everything from my home app and restarted the HomePod from my phone… There might of been an iPhone iOS update as well and I did some thing on my Apple TV to… Well I removed it and renamed everything and then seemed to work again as it should… So if it’s Apple Music library probably just sign out an end to that and anything else that you can quickly do that with like even the App Store or whatever because sometimesThings just get out of sync with new devices or different updates or different users OK hopefully there’s not too many annoying miss auto corrections am dictating because I’m too tired to go through this but you can do it

Hi everyone.

I faced a similar problem when I linked my “Paired HomePods” to my Apple TV.

After switching off Apple TV (via a Command to HomePod) and requested HomePod to play a song on Apple Music, I receive this message from HomePod, “Sorry, there was a problem with Apple Music. Please try again.” I tried to restart both HomePods, but nothing works until I terminated the link between the Paired HomePods to Apple TV.

After which, my Paired HomePods are able to fetch songs from Apple Music again. The above problem resurfaces when I link up my HomePods to AppleTV.

Apple’s HomePod Team should look into this problem between HomePod & AppleTV.

I have this issue also on both of my HomePod mini.

The symptoms are:

  • Asking Siri to play music results in either
    • confirmation that she will play the song, the white light begins to shine constantly (sometimes in this case it starts playing the music after 10 minutes and more
    • confirmation that she will play the song, then "There was a problem with Apple Music".
    • telling that no artist with that name is on Apple Music after reading back the name correctly. It happens even with easy ones, like "Tina Turner" or "Sting".
  • When trying to switch any homekit accessory, Siri of HomePod mini 1 and 2 mentions that there are not accessories connected, although the third HomePod can switch the multiple Philips Hue lights
  • Moving the HomePod even near the Router does not solve the issue, so it is not a WiFi reception problem.
  • When the issue appears sometimes the HomePod becomes unreachable in the Home App of the iPhone even if both devices are connected to the WiFi (HomePod answering Siri questions / iPhone showing best WiFi reception)

What I have sorted out with the help of Apple Care:

  • It seems not to be related to the 2,4 GHz frequency of the Wifi or the Wifi reception as other Siri functions that require internet connection are working flawlessly. Furthermore it sometimes works fine when the HomePod is in the 2,4 GHz network.
  • It seems to be no hardware issue as all my HomePod mini show the same issue
  • It is no specific issue to the iPhone that is used for setup, as setting it up the iPad Pro with the same Apple ID is making no improvement.
  • Rebooting the HomePod via settings, then logging out of the Apple ID within the HomePod settings, then rebooting again and logging back in solves the problem most of the times. But the issue reappears most of the times after a couple of minutes.
  • I have a German Apple ID and was using all HomePods in English because of the "Multiple User feature". Changing the HomePod to German language first solved the problem but not for more than a couple of minutes.
  • Resetting (either with a Mac or via rebooting the HomePod and holding the touch surface until there was the red glowing light, the Siri notification that a reset is imminent and the three beeps) leads to even bigger issues as I was constantly getting the error message "Setup Failed (-6753)" and "Setup Failed (301014)" until after a couple of tries it finished the setup. After the finish of the setup it was stuck in "HomePod is being configured. Additional settings will be available shortly..." in the Home App of the iPhone.
  • The HomePod mini was at not time used for Airplay from one of the Apple TVs. The second HomePod mini that shows this behaviour even was never connected to an iPhone via Airplay. It showed this issue right out of the box after the setup.

The issue seemed to be, but unfortunatelly was not resolved and as soon as I find the time and nerves I will contact Apple Care again. In my opinion this is some issue with the login either in Homekit or Apple Music as it shows all signs of not connecting to the server for some functions (Homekit, Apple Music) while it is perfectly connected for others (Siri).

Personally I don't have any expectations that this is solvable without an update that is addressing this unintentional behaviour.

Hey everyone, I hope you all see this. I just updated my Homepod to version 14.3. I then tried to shuffle my library, and it actually started playing music! I'll have to keep testing this to see if it stays working okay, but you all might want to try the new update.

Just before the update, I also changed the location of the Homepod from Bedroom to Master Bedroom, the same room my Apple TV is set to, although I haven't paired the two. I would assume that if my Homepod is working good consistently now, that it's because of the update. I'll try to keep you guys informed as to how it continues to work. I hope you all will do the same!

Hi. I was having this same issue. I had recently requested that my Apple TV default output was the HomePod. The two worked individually for a while, then I started to Jane this problem and nothing else fixed or. I could see that it was trying to play through both Apple TV and the HomePod, so I took the HomePod off of Apple TV, and it fixed it. I don’t what happened but they need an update to fix this issue.

I've had this problem as well. If I go into Music on my iPhone and try to send to the HomePods, they show that the HomePods are playing a song on the AppleTV, even if there is no music being played. If I take control from the appleTV with my iphone, that works well, and then I can use Siri directly on the HomePod. Just a hint as to what may be wrong, but my bet is that the pairing w/ Apple TV is still a bit buggy or unwilling to relinquish control, even if the AppleTV has been put to sleep.

Hey everybody. POSSIBLE breakthrough. I haven't tested it a lot yet, though. To begin, my HomePod is still giving me the "There was a problem with Apple Music" error, and just to be clear, my HomePod is NOT connected to either of my Apple TVs. Just now, after many weeks of only requesting playlists, I decided to try asking Siri to shuffle my library again, because you never know. As usual, she went through her routine before giving me the usual error. Before I tried this, I had been listening to a specific song. In an effort to simply continue playing that song, I tapped the top of the HomePod. To my surprise, a brand new song started playing, and it was a song that was not in the playlist I was listening to earlier. BUT it was a song from my library. I asked for the next song, and another completely random song from my library started playing. And so on. I plan to continue trying this. Obviously, if this works, it's a work-around and far from convenient. But it may give Apple a clue as to what's causing the issue, because if this continues to work, it means that Siri is able to see my library, but she's having a problem "hitting play". If anyone else tries this, please reply back. And thank you to everyone for continuing to keep this thread alive.
