Homepod suddenly can't access my Apple Music library.

Last week, I began to have this issue. I'll ask Siri on my Homepod to shuffle or play my library, and she'll say, "Playing all songs, shuffled," or something to that effect. Then, after a moment, she says, "Sorry, there was a problem with Apple Music." This just began two weekends ago. Before that, if I asked her to shuffle my library, she'd do it.

As far as troubleshooting goes, I feel like I've tried everything. I've done a full reset of my Homepod more than once. I've gone into its settings to make sure it's on the same WiFi as my iPhone. When I ask Siri to shuffle my library anywhere else, she does so with no problem. It's only on my Homepod. Also, she has no problem shuffling or playing specific playlists I've created in my library.

My Homepod version is 14.1, according to the settings in my Home app.

HomePod, 14

I FOUND THE SOLUTION! Here was my problem: after resetting it’d work for a little bit and then stop. The problem was that I was using my HomePod to connect to my Apple TV to listen to music. It doesn’t work that way. You’d have to switch your audio output back to the tv in order to tell Siri to play music or else she’ll say, “okay, playing music. I’m sorry, something seems to be wrong with your Apple Music.”

I only had to go through one phone call, which was escalated within the phone call. The agent listened really well, although he didn't solve my problem. He also never said that it was something Apple removed. He agreed that it was an issue that multiple users had reported, and he said it was something Apple had to fix on their side in an update. Obviously, that update has not happened yet. I did update my Homepod today, but I still have this specific issue.

Hello PugApocalypse,

Thank you for reaching out and using Apple Support Communities. We’ll be happy to help and provide some steps that you can try. You have done a wonderful job troubleshooting already on your own.

Let’s start by double checking your "Repeat" and "Shuffle" settings in the iOS Music app: Play, repeat, and shuffle music - Apple Support

Also, because there have been several updates, be sure that your iPhone and HomePod are up-to-date: Update your iPhone,

I've been having this problem for a while now, and it's very frustrating. I've tried the other suggestions: disabling the "Personal Requests", signing out and back in, reseting and reconfiguring - all to no avail.

I have an extensive iTunes library, and have been an iTunes Match subscriber since it was first introduced.

I have two HomePods, both with 14.4 firmware. They both exhibit this problem. I can't call out a song, album or artist. It just complains about "not finding X in Apple Music" - despite the fact that I'm not an Apple Music subscriber.

Here's the kicker for me, and what I might be able to add to the discussion - I *was* an Apple Music subscriber, until recently. I got 3 free months with the purchase of a car, then let it lapse. Since then, I've had nothing but trouble getting my HomePods to play music by voice command.

My suspicion? My Apple account has some flag that says "Apple Music ON but not subscribed" - the HomePod stops working with Match/Cloud Library as soon as it gets associated with an Apple Music subscription which has been canceled.

I strongly suspect that I could solve all of this by subscribing to Apple Music, but not only do I have a distaste for the recurring fee, I actually don't *want* it to play songs I don't have. I just want my library back!

In the meantime, I've resorted to streaming from my computer or phone for now. If this keeps up, I'll just abandon these HomePods altogether.

I have a HomePod that has been working great for over a year until recently last 3 days can no longer access Apple Music Siri states "Sorry there is a problem with Apple Music." I have a family plan to Apple Music with 4 iPhones, two IMACs, two Mac minis and multiple Apple TVs all able to access my Apple Music. But the one device I need to access via simple voice commands can't access my Apple Music. I have logged out logged back in rebooted HomePod and routers. Currently an expensive alarm clock. Any recommendations? Answers? Respectfully Joey

Yes, I think it is more and more becoming obvious, @PugApocalypse, that this is a software issue within Apple Music/HomeKit. I made the same experience, that when I get the music running after 5 and more frustrated tries it sometimes starts jumping through the titles without user interaction. It just jumps to the next title of the Album, stays there for 1 or 2 seconds, jumps to the next one, and so on. Funny though, I saw this behaviour on my Mac as well as on the iPad and iPhone from time to time. I really think this is a problem within Apple Music that just is more often seen on the HomePod (in my case almost every time).

Meanwhile I was able to see some additional issue. When I am streaming music to the HomePod minis via Airplay from my iPhone (as I can't get the HomePod playing my music by itself), the option to transfer the music back to the iPhone disappears many times. The iPhone is often no longer on the list. I've been regularly stuck with the HomePod mini having the tickmark but is not playing the music. The funny thing: Even rebooting the iPhone and HomePod mini does not kick it out of the faulty airplay connection. Sometimes if you leave it like this it suddenly starts playing hours later even if the iPhone is away. This is why I am regularly stuck to my home until after many reboots the iPhone is shown again in the airplay overview. This is really an annoying bug.

Harsh.

Having the same issues. Regardless of Apple Device, Siri can’t find music.

“I’m sorry I can’t find ** on Apple Music”

Everything was working fine until today. Incredibly frustrating on HomePod Mini and CarPlay.

Am an Apple subscriber. Have reset the HomePod and set it up from scratch. Signed in and out of Accounts. Turn off Siri / Music settings then On again.

Homepod is just useless via voice.

iPhone 12 will only play items from my downloaded library.

of course manually searching through Apple Music app, everything works fine.

Hoping it’s a server side glitch

That's very interesting, because I do have an Apple Music subscription, and as I've said in my replies above, I can still shuffle my library with Siri on my iPhone and Apple TV. It's just my HomePod, which is weird. I haven't called Support yet, because they're hardly ever that helpful and I was waiting to see if anyone like you replied with a similar issue. Thanks for the reply!
