Iphone 12 / High Sierra / Itunes 12.8.2.3

So I have High Sierra and Itunes 12.8.2.3

Just bought an iphone 12.

Backed up the older phone through itunes.

Iphone 12 is not seen by itunes.

I do not get the "TRUST THIS COMPUTER" signal when you connect through USB

Changed cables, changed ports

I can't upgrade Itunes as that is the newest version

Don't want to upgrade MacOS

My imac doesn't have USB-C

I don't think I can backup with itunes.

Any other suggestions?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

If you've not already do so try this approach. In Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.

For iOS 12 you need iTunes 12.8.0.150 or better running on OS X 10.11.4 or better. See How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support if required. iOS 13 & 14 require iTunes 12.8.2.3 or above.

Assuming a suitable version of iTunes is in place then in Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.

Hi, I have the same problem as this guy. I have a macbook pro mid 2010 13-inch(7,1), running high sierra 10.13.6 and itunes 12.8.2.3. When I connect my iphone 12 pro(ios 14.2.1) nothing happens, some rare times on the top left corners appears the iphone logo but then disappear immediately after. I have already try your suggestions that i found on another post (link: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8615363 ) but got no luck. However I had the same problem with an iphone XR(and you solved it, thanks for that), but I can't with the iphone 12 max. When i do the device updater thing nothing happens. Could you help me (again :)) thanks.

I am having exactly the same issue. Thought it was Sierra as first, so I updated to high Sierra, but still itunes doesn't recognise the new iphone 12.

I suspect its an itunes bug, as the phone is visible in photos and in System Information in the finder.

I've tried reinstalling itunes 12.8.2 - no luck.

This process has always been smooth in the past - extremely frustrated now.

Hi Turingtest,

Thanks for the suggestion. clicking on MobileDeviceUpdater doesn't do anything. Opening up the package contents and running it with terminal output shows a few connection errors.

Perhaps this is due to the age of my Macbook? It's a 13" 2010 Macbook pro, running high sierra. I do have itunes 12.8.2.3 installed, which is the requirement for ios14, but perhaps apple aren't bothered to maintain this obsolete (according to them) config.

Apple - PLEASE fix this bug with Itunes 12.8.2.3 and high sierra. It obviously a common issue, looking online.

Hi tt2,

I'm having a similar problem to the guys above and have tried all the above test to no success.

My MacBook is a mid 2010 running high sierra (have recently upgraded following the advice on here) and i have updated (and re-installed) iTunes 12.8.2.3 a few times.

My iPhone 12 just won't be detected by iTunes.

it does get detected on the photos app but i can't view or access any photos. (This information may be useful)

To confirm the ports are working, i have plugged in my Mrs' iPhone 11 which also runs on iOS 14.3 and iTunes detected it with no problem.

I've contacted apple support and they basically told me to go buy a new MacBook or laptop as IOS 14.3 can not work on iTunes 12.8.2.3. I don't believe that to be correct as the iPhone 11 works fine.

I would really appreciate any help to try to get this sorted without having to buy a new laptop/pc.

thanks,

hi,

i've done the trust reset and re-done the mobiledeviceupdater and whilst it still doesn't detect it in iTunes, i have something new happened.

In finder, under Devices, there's a new icon that's come up called "Remote Disc". I can't access anything on it and i don't have a cd drive. Not sure what this means.

Thanks for your help so far, seems to be moving in the right direction

Hi Tymmac, yes i've been on forums and trying all sorts since boxing day to silly hours trying to resolve this. it is very frustrating.

i have updated the mac to the highest it would go and no joy so far.

I've had few conversations with apple support. there was one guy would was really helpful but unfortunately i had to update my pc and had to close the conversation. Subsequent ones had the attitude of get a new MacBook - your is vintage. i don't fancy driving to an apple shop to be told that. I feel i'm having more support and understanding from this forum.

thanks again for all the help and patience.

i'll redo everything again tomorrow step by step and see if i missed anything along the way.
