iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

1) I tested my friend's in the exact same pitch black room with not a single light on (doors shut and closed blinds): the difference was massive: pure blacks vs. the same old green tint/glow on mine. The video we chose was called "12 hours of black screen" on YouTube.

2) I know that covering the screen with my arm was not enough at all because I'm a picky user and I notice the smallest glitch affecting my iPhones.

With that being said, I can confirm that the weird flickering was visible even in that context, definitely more subtle but still there.

I'd still suggest you give it a try and ask for a replacement as I don't trust what Apple says. I don't regret my decision at all.

I'll be able to tell you how it goes by the end of next week.

hello, I realized that an error had slipped in my explanation;

about the dark gray photo image, i wanted to point out that it displays in perfect black (oled pixel off) on all other screens of iphone models released before iphone 12

For the test I sent the same image by airdrop of course 😉

I tested the image posted in my first post on an iphone 11 pro max and it does not appear in perfect black, the image will be just useful to see if there are lighter lines or spots on your screen (visible in absolute darkness with minimal brightness)

I'm afraid of it, yes! poor display quality, what is the point of protecting such a poorly designed screen more effectively! #ceramicshild

I believe that this partnership with samsung this year could not be concluded!

It is iteressant to have other opinions concerning these strange lines! Thank you

THIS MUST BE UPDATED! (It must be known)

I spent more than 2 hours with apple support today and their level 1 technicians say they do not know the problem or do not answer me outright (total silence, but do not hang up).

After heavy persistence I had a technician from lvl 2 and told me that I knew the problem, that it was very well known and that the next ios 14.3 update will correct the problem (the beta does not correct this problem yet).

I scheduled a return so that they send me a new one, I would be delivered on 01/04/2021!

and they call it fast!

and without telephone for 1 month!

if I want to recommend another hipotetically, same story I would be delivered on 01/04/2021.

I believe that a new production line has been launched to correct this problem!

it's a real abomination this year!

I accidentally discovered something weird with the greenish backlight .... when I make a test (you can use setting > general > software updates ) and try to turn your phone into different angle, flip down and up the toward you, then you will see the flickering backlight appear every time you move your phone (only 100% will show pure black) ..... i think it have also related to the sensor movement ....

As a Dev i've updated to 14.3 release candidate tat should be 100% the same as the public vers. and still no patch, the issue is the same... i just noticed that the speakers on the 12 pro max seems less loud compared to when i got it.

But i stil think it's software like Apple thinks so, cos they had this issue before on the 11 and a software update fixed it. check on google. it was the exact same issue...

for those who bought it directly on apple.com and got it since the 10th of november just remember that u have until the 8th of January to ask for a refund or return it and get an exchange. if it's not fixed, i'll ask for a refund and order a new one .

for those who sees lines that seems to be an hardware issue , no software fix for it i think.

I see some OLED issues regarding the iPhone 11 Pro models but I think they’re different since they’re are experiencing a green tint overall whereas the iPhone 12 series has problems with the true black areas being lit up. Do you have any articles or discussions regarding the problem that the iPhone 11 had? Would be of great help.

So guys,

i have got my third iPhone thinking that i would get lucky but the problem still persists. but at least now i am completely sure that it is a Software problem. When you get it right out of the box, there is no tint while booting up. Try it!! Boot it several times and no problem. The problem only occurs after you have gone through the set up process. So waiting for a software fix is the best right now. If the problem still persists, i will try and get another phone on January 8th. After which i will give up if i get the same problem, but I am guessing that Apple should improve its production process by then(if at all it is a hardware problem) and take care of the screen, since they dont want this issue spreading any more.

For all those thinking that their phones are not affected, go in the dark with a black wallpaper and turn your brightness to at least half, while on the wallpaper, lock your device and unlock it and voila you will see the tint quite clearly. Problem is that when you are completely in the dark, your brightness level goes to zero and you are unable to see the tint. Therefore to see the tint, you need to increase the brightness to half.

Thats a good point, if Apple took this issue seriously they would say something by now as it’s been over a month now since 4th November.

Maybe we all just need to start returning iPhone 12’s and then buy a new one and return again and buy a new one again.

Maybe If they suddenly have much more returns than they usually have they will start thinking seriously about this issue and say something.

It’s definitely broken screens across all iPhone 12’s.

I think I’ll just get one only to return it next day. I’m getting really annoyed now with waiting, Apple might never acknowledge this issue...

I got my replacement unit today. The issue is still there but it’s definitely a better screen then my previous one, like night and day difference to the point that I think I didn’t waste time like I thought I would: the grin tint is gone and the display still flashes in pitch black when displaying black content (no stills, just videos) but it’s barely visible now and not that annoying. I don’t know what’s going on with Apple this year. Only time will tell!
