iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

Hello from Germany.

I bought my iPhone 12 Pro in November. It has the same problem. It is best seen in a room that is completely dark when the device is booting. At first, only the apple logo is white, otherwise everything is pure black. Shortly before the boot process is over, the black changes to gray / green. Then the homescreen follows.

BUT: I switched to the iPhone 12 Pro Max yesterday. What can I say? The black stays black. A YouTube test video also showed this. Both devices have iOS 14.2.1 installed. Is it a hardware error after all? The iPhone 12 Pro Max was produced in mid-November.

(Sorry for my bad English)

Thanks for the vids, i got your posted link through an email notification from this Forum here, and you are right. The videos shows exactly what you said. So there are iPhones out which don’t have this flickering issue. You won the lottery!!!! Keep it its really rare 😉

and I’ll send my second iPhone 12 pro back and order a new one again, hopefully this time i can win the lottery too

Perhaps I personally won the lottery, but the situation at all is very sad. I mean, you buy a over 1000 euro device and the most costumers out there don't realize the failure. My girlfriend has buyed a 12 Pro Max yesterday too – pure black, no flickering. Dates of both devices.

Hi!

I have the same issue. I bought iphone 12 pro 11.11.2020, display glow with a grey instead of black. I've tested it in a different ways:

- Cropped black background from iphone wallpapers settings.

- Using image #000000, rgb(0, 0, 0), rgba(0, 0, 0, 1)

- Different videos from youtube

So display glows, it's not completely black, with or without case.

I've tried to restore iphone using:

- DFU

- Recovery Mode

No result, glowing still there.

I even checked my friend iphone 12 pro, same issue, black colour also glows but with a green. Looks worst than mine.

I had a chat twice with apple support, and one of the reply was that apple know about this problem and working on it's fix, i need to wait for update. And the second time i've got a reply that support haven't got access to information about does apple know about bug and if they work on its fix and i should to go to service my iphone.

I'm confused.

I doubt it’s a software error. You can’t just “miss” this thing during production stages. Nor it’s a feature for black smearing cover. It’s a bad OLED quality displays. I don’t understand how others watch videos on youtube with this issue? It’s really annoying flickering every second, you can see it even in barely dark room. Also I don’t understand why some smart people still not sued Apple for this.

So here’s how it’s going for my 12 Pro Max.It definitely has this issue but it’s so subtle to the point I can’t even see it in the dark.I have to put my eyes against the screen to see these pixels go light grey.I found out at :

100% Brightness with low power mode there is that glow

100% Brightness without low power mode no glow what so ever (Pure black as it should be)

50%Brightness with low power mode it makes my display flicker almost every second or so

50% Brightness without low power mode the display does flicker but not very noticeable

Now these results can support the fact that this is a software issue as the display only flickers with low power mode or at lower brightness levels

Edit:Just checked my brother’s 12 Pro Max and same results !

Mine doesn’t have this issue. It have a warmer or yellowish whites but not this. My original 12PM had this. I don’t think is SW related. It is a defect in the display itself. If it were a SW or OS issue the all IPhones would behave the same and there are 12PMs without this issue running 14.2.1. I installed 14.3 RC2 and these issues are not corrected.
