iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

At first glance I thought I had hit the jackpot as I was seeing pure black too.But I was wrong, in some cases you really think that your phone has no issue even in the darkest of conditions. You have to look really close. You can see the pixels turning green .Maybe one of your iPhone has a less severe issue but there will definitely be one same as my brother’s iPhone flickers more and mine is a little less severe.

It does but it’s definitely less visible. The first unit would flash a lot more and it had that annoying green tint, this one doesn’t. The glow is still there in pitch black room when watching the famous “12 hours of black screen video”, but it’s more subtle.

Returning it for the third time would be a waste of time as the risk to get an even worse display is high! I really don’t know how they’ll manage to address this problem and if we ever see the light with a sw update. So disappointed in Apple this time. Sounds like they rushed the production of the entire 12 lineup due to the pandemic and made a utter disaster.

I'm returning my iPhone 12 Pro Max tomorrow. The first was from production week 45, which had raised blacks issues, and the screen was yellowed and dim. My second, iPhone 12 Pro Max, was a little better. Almost no raised blacks and not as yellow as the first one, but still warmer or yellowish then any other device that I own. While the second is better than the previous one, it is still not acceptable for the amount of money paid. So, I will return it for a refund and wait until this issue subsides.

If you expect that Apple will fix the yellowish tint issue, well, there are many people with warmer or yellowish iPhones 11. At Costco, I saw an iPhone 12 Pro Max on display with a perfect screen, better than my iPhone X. But I'm not willing to play the screen lotto.

All Iphone 12 have a more yellowish display this year compared to the iPhone X i stil have , but in fact it's more true to real colors than the bluish iPhone X i have, the issue is that we do not like these yellowish tint , but did you know that now my 12 pro max has a blue tint like my X ? cos you can go to accessibility and change the White point balance and the screen color with precise sliders for each color.

and you have to do it once and never touch it again.... so it's a shame you returned it just for that.

i have a gray flick when ion the pitch black i prefer to wait till like the 5th of january and see if they fix it and ask for a refund then buy a new one.. cos to me it's software cos the issue cannot be reproduce or never appears when brightness is at max level.

If this is ok for you, keep your defected iphone and be happy. for me it is unacceptable to hear from apple "It is the best display ever" , and in real it looks like ****.

And with your "solution" on, you have to know, if you edit (especially editing colors) a pic on your iphone, and send it to an other device, it wont look like your want to look it because its only a filter thats work on your display. is this what you want?

Maybe there are some iPhones out, with the best display ever, but then it is like a lottery, and thats not ok, if im paying 1200€.

After refuse by Genuis Bar (replace a device, because they checked evertyhing is okay nothing wrong with the screen - they denided to get the phone into a dark place to test.... and repeated the same sentance ... the system show your phone screen is perfect has no defect ...)

I talked again to the Apple Support online and requested Mail-in Repair to the Apple Repair Center. So will see how it will be the result after the diagnosis... :)

They were trying their best to convince me it was software-related but I DEMANDED a replacement and asked them to test the screen in the dark. I told them they can lie as much as they want but if compared to an old iPhone OLED (11 Pro/ Xs/X) the defect was blatant and irrefutable. That’s how I “forced” them to service my phone and they actually listened and did it.

However I didn’t solve the problem at all but at least this one has a less visible flickering. 🤣

haha yes i thought so :p.

They keep telling me no, their "technician" said everything is in good condition and can't do anything for me LOL. When i request to ask them for testing in dark they said no, the diagnosis tools said everthing is okay even i show him the picture i took, They said it can be photo from others .....

Why i should bring a new phone to fix if there is no problem ... Make no sense at all !!! and i took a half day rest to just send the phone to genuis bar !

And ask me to be patient for software update.. they could not do anything.

14.3 has no effect and the Apple store reps act oblivious to the issue. This issue is known, widespread, and should be addressed. It tells me the lack of sincerity and openness of Apple as a company. The customer/consumers deserved to be helped and told openly what is happening. We spend great amounts of money on these devices and have certain expectations. To expect a proper functioning OLED without flickering is not a high expectation, it’s basic. The fact that Apple is staying silent on this issue is frightening, is it because it’s a hardware issue that affects enormous amounts of devices? Why is there no public statement not this?
