iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

I can't tell you what the behavior of devices from Shanghai is like. I don't have a device from there myself. But if you say it has the green tint it is probably the same problem as with the other devices. I would exchange or return it.

Maybe at some point you will be lucky and get a better device

I have a device from Shanghai with a Samsung screen( a G9N screen variant, believed to be the best quality followed by the G9P, GVC, and the GH). The behavior is the glow of the pixels at low brightness(but not as bad as some others), a green tint at the boot up( it was fixed a little with 14.3 but still there), and flickering.

My device is a 12 Pro Max, week 41.

Yes I saw that video today and zollotech mentioned that the issue with the pixels not turning black was fixed in beta 4.4, but apparently its not fixed according to others on this page.

I've never experienced the green tint or my display being too yellow and I think the issue with the pixels not turning all black is indeed an software issue.

hope it gets fixed soon..

//update from second call from Apple //

the person who incharged of my case will talk to a senior engineer and will gat back to me in two days with “solution” claimed. He told me sending back my devices to the repair center in Prague (for Europe) is useless which I agreed, as I told him I do expected what answer the repair center will gave me after sending the device and running the same analyst tool, telling me the screen is perfectly working.

So I very clear with my goal - I told the customer service I just want a normal OLED screen that’s it. Either is replace my screen or exchange, I don’t care Apple replace it nor échange a new phone i don’t mind but I just want a normal screen. ☺️

will get update everyone after I have a deal (if)

Hahahahhahah.

That’s the Apple storyline 😅😅😅 I suppose.

Well everyone deserved to get a same quality of device with same function and same behaviors. Imaging after a year (when the Apple warranty is ended) the screen lead to another issue which you have to replace it.

And that time Apple will kick your *** to pay 💰 for fixing or 😃 maybe convince you to trade-in and get a new iPhone 13. Hahhaha

well even if the replied from Apple engineer to ask me wait for upcoming update I will request for a proper email statement to mentioned at this time Apple ask me to wait if this related issue lead to any issue in future the party will fully take the responsibility 😊. Is fair that We paying this much money and deserved that right 😀

I can say that in iOS 14.4 beta 1 the flickering (actually no flickering, just the pixels appear and then go off in less than a second, it doesn’t keep turning off and on like before)is still there but it’s much less which makes me feel optimistic and looks like it has something to do with the sensors not reading everything well. Something to do with the hdr capable screens of the iPhone 12 series perhaps. In any case I will be checking in here often and reporting.

We know it since like a week after the pro mac and mini got released and we talked about that here , macrumors got internal document from apple technicians telling them to say to customers to wait a bit for a softer fix by advising them to keep their IOS up to date. BUT they didn't gave any timeline.. but it seem's to be quite spread so i think they are working on it.

14.1 installed still the same, i think i'll ask for an exchange and if the exchange is the same, i'll ask for a refund , and wait a month or so... apparently from this thread and others some ppl got exchanged iPhones made at a later date and the issue doesn't exists on their units.

I've check this weird website given out here where u enter your Serial number and it tells you the week of production , mine is a 512 Gb Pro max Made week 43 so it was the first batch of units... yellow tint and weird OLED glitch where the screen flicker when moving brightness or watching HDR content.

@Dx1d hi can i ask you something ? how many times can u ask for a replacement before they stop ?

im from France and i have the same issue, pro max produced in china week 43 from your website... but how can u know what type of screen and the details of the device you'll have for replacement before you got it ? maybe i missed something.. and how do you know the panel manufacturer too ?

thanks a lot xD

I will get my third iPhone in some weeks if there will be no solution i will leave the 12 series out.

very disappointed, waited 5 years with my old iPhone 6s, which have a beautiful white and no flickering. And when I look at the iPhone 12 Pro display, I’m getting sick of seeing the darkmode being greenish and white text looking yellow and getting headache by watching videos by night through the flickering :(

i thought Apple would do better but that’s only imagination and wishes.

If this should be the best iPhone they ever made 😂

Hello infomdulut,

I get this information following the analysis of the news and my experience with apple to be sure of what I am going forward, making the choice not to deliver the defective units any more was long to take because the defect is minor (some could think it), no more units available before Christmas, huge loss of money, identical dates for a return or a new delivery, not to mention that all the delivery dates have changed instantly in more than 1 month.
