iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

mine is an F2 week production 43 and is quite affected, i've just ordered a new one and ask for a refund for the pro max .. hope the new one will not have any issues...

one thing is weird, after enabling the refund process, it say's two contradictory statements, it says that i have 5 days to return it via UPS, or that i can wait till 8th of january to return it.. as the new one should get to me near the 8th of january i would love to know which info is correct ? do i have 5 days or until the 8th of January to call UPS to send it back ? now that i have the shipping label ..

if someone knows, thanks a lot.

i will post any info i'll have on the newer iPhone 12 pro max i've just ordered,

another question btw, i see some ppl are able to say their serial number even for a phone they did not get in their hands... how are you doing this ? is there an easy way to see it before u check yourself in the information page on the device ? thanks

So I have been doing some research on imei numbers and the first 4 numbers give us some info about the product, if there are different version or revisions of the iPhone, my 3 affected iPhones all started with 3530 and the 4th one I am going to get starts with 3595 which is either a revised version or a different version, I just hope it is revised to correct the screen.

Only if I tilt the top phone forward by 45 degree so I see a slight greenish but who would read this way I certainly can’t

is it due to the angle or glass and nothing to do with oled ?

my iPhone X at 45 degrees top forward more of a bluish look

when I boot the phone a matter of less of a second when I see the Apple logo I see green but then it goes away and back to black

anywhere else I do not see it, tried all the different scenarios mentioned in this forum and no issue

Final Update,

Returned my 4th replacement. It had this blinking issue. Third one was yellow as crazy! 4th had beautiful screen - so much cooler & perfectly displaying true tone mode. But i couldn’t stand this blinking issue. I believe we all are entitled to same display quality if we have paid the same amount. Finally got my refund. Bought a Pixel4a, now waiting for iphone 13.

disappointed, had ordered mine first on 25th october, had switched from android (onePlus). I loved Apple’s UI, so would jump back later.

plus lesson learnt-

1) Never buy phone at launch, let 2-3 months pass, keep an eye on issues and then buy.

Sure.

Production Week, 40th (october), Imei - 3530. The Screen was the best of the three. it was gorgeously Blue/cool. Further it was sharp, texts looked amazingly crisp. I used to read alot on phone.

But unfortunately, had to send back due to blinking issue. Apple India’s executive here told me that it is an hardware issue which they are aware of. And all the models are presently of october month import stock. Hence, he suggested refund & wait for new units. He genuinely helped & told me to get a refund.

I’m sorry to hear so!

I was on the phone with apple customer care all the time. Initially they denied refund, as Apple India does not have refund policy. They said we’ll send 5th phone. I can’t tell how much i had to persuade them. Finally they agreed. Was it worth it? i guess so. I could have compromised with the blinking issue.

It took so much of my time. Every week, 3 or 4 days, i would spend an hour or more on phone. It’s all over now. There is this sense of relief but also of disappointment & disillusionment as how can a company sneak in such products.

overall, i’m willing to look ahead for now & will surely like to give next Gen Iphones a try, BUT after due scrutiny.

I hope your issue gets resolved via software update, stay safe my friend. Good Day!

glad you are happy with the pixel, but to my knowledge this happens with all brands, and sometimes Apple too , most of my first iPhones were perfect.. i remember only one had a light defect, and to be honest , the thing we noticed is 90% of the ppl will not ... the flickering issue is a good example, this depends on the type of display but you could notice this issue on other smartphones as well...

i mean i still trust Apple, even if i'm sending back mine and ordered a brand new one. i'm sure that if they said it can be fixed via software, it will be .. the only downside is we dunno when ...

Download 3uTools for windows

you will see all you need in verification report

for display maker you

G9N good samsung

G9P bad samsung

GVC good lg

GH bad LG

Personally I have G9N the greenish tint appears only below 30%

I do have flickering same as everyone else but sadly I can't refund or exchange as the issue is not big enough to be able to refund(no refund policy) or exchange(very hard to achieve) here where I live :(

i blindly trusted Apple and they failed me I am only hoping this can be fixed with an update :(

Dec 26, 2020 8:13 AM in response to m4x1k

this thread is going anywhere.... people who doesn't see any issues with their phones are nw looking for one.. that is RIDICULOUS... i mean ppl like me who came here noticed the issue without knowing it , and not trying to reproduce it ... it's simple, if your display behave as expected in a patch black room then you have nothing to do here.. enjoy your iPhone, i mean come one it's a bit ridiculous...

Dec 26, 2020 8:50 AM in response to satkelacommando

About the 'hardware issue' who has informed you? Service centre guy or Retail store or someone from the customer support?

Because I too have enquired about this issue and the reply was that it's a software issue, and I have been closely monitoring macrumors as well as this forum, even the latest batch iphone's have this issue.

I hope Apple come to the conclusion soon, and put all the theories to the rest.

Dec 26, 2020 9:09 AM in response to kushagrak

I can giarantee 100% that the tint can be fixed with software or reduce to the degree so much that won't be noticed (I did it my self by increasing the brightness then reducing white point (it is like increasing and decreasing the brightness) and the tint was gone

as for the flicker it only happens after the system starts which further indicates it is kernel related and also should be at least minimised
