iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Went to apple store again and was told they have to follow protocol before swapping out my phone. So we did another software reset directly through the computer which did not resolve issue. The next step was to replace the screen and not the entire phone. Took about two and a half hours, but I can confirm that the new screen fixed the problem of the green tint. No more tint or flashing on black screens at any brightness levels, at least so far. I am on ios 14.4. This leads me to believe it is a hardware issue. Hope this helps

mine is an F2 week production 43 and is quite affected, i've just ordered a new one and ask for a refund for the pro max .. hope the new one will not have any issues...

one thing is weird, after enabling the refund process, it say's two contradictory statements, it says that i have 5 days to return it via UPS, or that i can wait till 8th of january to return it.. as the new one should get to me near the 8th of january i would love to know which info is correct ? do i have 5 days or until the 8th of January to call UPS to send it back ? now that i have the shipping label ..

if someone knows, thanks a lot.

i will post any info i'll have on the newer iPhone 12 pro max i've just ordered,

another question btw, i see some ppl are able to say their serial number even for a phone they did not get in their hands... how are you doing this ? is there an easy way to see it before u check yourself in the information page on the device ? thanks

glad you are happy with the pixel, but to my knowledge this happens with all brands, and sometimes Apple too , most of my first iPhones were perfect.. i remember only one had a light defect, and to be honest , the thing we noticed is 90% of the ppl will not ... the flickering issue is a good example, this depends on the type of display but you could notice this issue on other smartphones as well...

i mean i still trust Apple, even if i'm sending back mine and ordered a brand new one. i'm sure that if they said it can be fixed via software, it will be .. the only downside is we dunno when ...

After checking my behavior, I doubt it's hardware. the gray screen happens after the device post. If it's hardware, it would happen at all times. apple must be waiting for an update for the screens and HDR (supplied by the manufacturer), I also feel that they should perfect the iPhone kernel. it can also be the cause

The migration process is now done and all my data is on the new phone.

Also I realized I didn’t mention earlier. I am on iOS 14.3

I went into a dark room, and got under some blankets just to be sure. I checked it with every possible dual combination of nightshift & true tone at the brightness level of ~10% (both on, both off, Ns on Tt of, Tt on Ns off) I tested it with some black youtube videos that I’ve been using. and I also tested with the software update page in settings.

I then tried testing on these brightness levels with true tone enabled and nightshift disabled (which is my normal setting for the majority of the day)

~2%

~10%

~25%

~70%

~90%

~100%

There was no issue whatsoever. at every step of these tests I side by side compared the screen to my iPhone X as well.

Just in case people reading this have doubts about my assessment; I have been having this issue since 18th of November, and I found this thread because I noticed the issue on my phone, not the other way around. So I definitely would know if the issue was still there.

The iPhone I got today is perfectly normal and I am relieved!

Cheers!

My thought is, will I get worst.

At this point either they come up with

ios update soon or maybe I should forget about a new iphone

what i don’t understand why is the x not having the same issue ?

And this brings me to think it has to be hardware

but I’m no engineer

so if people getting new phone from this point on and they no longer have this issue than it is hardware

if they do have the same issue well maybe i’ll forget this year phone because patches over patches is not

a perfect oled as it should be

I can recall that just before iPhone 12 went in to manufacturing they had supplies issues of a display controller that provides 120Hz refresh rate.

At the very llast minute they decided to revert back to 60hz.

This just seems to have the makings of a rushed product launch.

I now call the iPhone 12 (The Churner Edition)

Just slap together previous parts ordered 1/2.55” sensors and produce a phone 😂

Sending Second time my phone to Apple repair

My apple support told be he will tried his best to exchange me the phone, first he tried to contact Apple Frace but got rejected.... secondly he convinced me to resend the phone to apple repair center at Prague and, but nope... Message from repair center - SAME AS FIRST TIME - SORRY We not able to proceed the repair request ! great! I think my apple support was tried his best i believe.

Talk to again just know to a senior Apple Support ! He told me they are aware and they cannot do anything but just ask me to wait until APPLE decided on the solution plan (either replacement or free fixing the screen whatever), but no one know when......

*i could not return my phone because I am the pre-order units so not under the holiday policy.

so I asked him am i have to stay with this issue until like after a year apple come out with solution hahaha he was silent ... and schedule me the 10th or what so ever call again.

I think that's it i am giving up to apple.

Try to hypnosis myself the screen is perfect, the screen is pretty, the screen is fabulous. Story will be ended here.

No the problem does exist, at least I don’t have flickering anymore. But the blacks glow sometimes and then when they disappear they don’t appear anymore, just randomly. At this point after exchanging my iPhone 4 times I would even settle for this. I don’t know if the software is learning or what is going on...so I don’t know how to explain this phenomenon.

Dec 29, 2020 10:12 AM in response to 3lMghraby

This tells me they still plan on fixing it by software or the don’t know if changing the screen helps.

let’s just all calm down and wait for them to fix it. They are probably also enjoying the holidays. Just wait a few weeks or if you are able to send the phone back, opt for that.

I’m pretty sure they will fix it. Especially if they hold of exchanges or repairs. Better for the environment as well with all the replacement screens.

just my 2 cents.

My first device had green glow.

2nd device didn’t have the green glow and the panel was working perfectly fine. 1.5 days after my initial tests it started having blinking grey at pure black on <30% brightness. Honestly speaking it is annoying that we have to go through these. But I’m moving out from my place right now and I don’t have the time to deal with returns, that’s why I’ll keep this one. the blinking black is not as annoying as the green glow.

But I don’t know what gearbox is. did I miss something? is there a fix to that problem?
