iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

This tells me they still plan on fixing it by software or the don’t know if changing the screen helps.

let’s just all calm down and wait for them to fix it. They are probably also enjoying the holidays. Just wait a few weeks or if you are able to send the phone back, opt for that.

I’m pretty sure they will fix it. Especially if they hold of exchanges or repairs. Better for the environment as well with all the replacement screens.

just my 2 cents.

This display issue has been annoying, but it’s not the end of the world to me. The vast majority of time my screen is not pure black anyway.

Having said this, I did spend some time testing different brightness levels along with various True Tone and auto brightness settings. I found that roughly above 90% brightness setting I get true black, but the green tint returns if I cover the notch WHEN AUTO BRIGHTNESS IS ON. At this point I’m 90% convinced that it’s a software/firmware issue, with 10% speculation on a display-related chip.

However, I’m not entirely sure that a fix is coming. I’ve seen several pictures where 2 iphone 12 displays look different at the exact same setting, probably because one is Samsung and the other is LG. If the software delivers true black to one display but not to the other, it may not be possible to bring true black to both without breaking other functions.

Maybe your screen doesn’t turn completely black at full brightness, but mine does. I test it in a completely dark room using a 100% black picture at the exact same resolution as the display.

I do expect a flawless product for my $1299, so I understand if people are upset. However, I’m free to choose to not be upset about it.

It doesn’t mean Apple is going to get away with this forever though. I preordered this 12 Pro so Apple got my money early, but next year I’ll wait until the first users have a chance to look at it closely. Their revenue from me will be delayed by a couple of months. If I don’t like what I hear, I may skip the 2021 iPhone, just like I skipped the X and Xs.

GUYS

Supersaf just recently recorded a video regarding the iPhone 12 pro max after 2 months.

He very reluctantly says that the display has been brilliant but something from his facial expressions just doesn't seem right. See below:

The only way this will ever get resolved is if well known youtubers give exposure.

I visited the reseller today and could reproduce the problem there but they did not see it as an issue and refused to refund or replace (green tint at low brightness-glow at startup-flickering)

I am really sad as I upgraded to the 12 pro max I do regret it so much

I am not waiting for Apple to release a fix because I am 100% sure they will not

This will be my last device from that company

I think we should keep tweeting/messaging big tech youtubers like MKBHD. Snazzy Labs is another channel which was able to bring apple’s attention to some problems regarding his faulty imac pro stand. LTT might even help. Maybe we should start a hashtag or something of that nature to bring attention to this issue. The more we wait without doing anything, the more apple acts as if everything’s perfectly fine. I think we deserve an acknowledgment coming from apple at the very least.

I know for a fact there are iphone 12’s out there without the issue. but some people replaced their phones for 4-5 times and still got the faulty panels. So I’d say this is not a super isolated issue.

But this discussion thread has gotten out of hand I think. Because I saw people complaining that colors are changing when they tilt the device up and down, left and right. That is not an issue, that is just standard OLED behavior and one of the most important drawbacks of the OLED technology.

My first device had green glow.

2nd device didn’t have the green glow and the panel was working perfectly fine. 1.5 days after my initial tests it started having blinking grey at pure black on <30% brightness. Honestly speaking it is annoying that we have to go through these. But I’m moving out from my place right now and I don’t have the time to deal with returns, that’s why I’ll keep this one. the blinking black is not as annoying as the green glow.

But I don’t know what gearbox is. did I miss something? is there a fix to that problem?

My brother just got his 12 pro (Production week 51) and no green tint or flickering, only with a brightness around 30% there is a slight active backlight, only around 30%. 14.2.1 installed. There is a slight flaw as mentioned but the display is much better than my 12 pro (production week 40) which has both a green tint and noticeable flickering. . We have the same panel on our iPhones, G9P. This is strange and I hope it's only a software issue.

Same problem with mine. I sent it back and here is their response:

"Your product has arrived at our repair center, but our technicians were unable to process your repair request. We will return your product to you with a letter providing you with more information. If you have any questions Regarding this letter, please feel free to contact Apple Support to see what solutions are available. Be sure to use the same repair number. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. "

Hope this is a joke !?

So I'm confusing and wanting to waste time unnecessarily according to you?

So, according to your technicians, is there no problem with this phone in terms of contrast and colors? I must be colorblind then because I myself am going to compare my phone in 3 different stores with other Iphone 12s (not pro). Even the vendors present all agreed with my observation!

It's strange though ... or contagious.

I suspect it will have no consequences for your shareholders, but you are losing an "old" customer and his entire family equipped with Apple throughout its range.

At the cost of your equipment I find that dismal. Note, on "leboncoin" it will sell very well ...

Before that I will try one last chance by turning to my operator.
