iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

I sent twice and same letter i got from apple repair center (Prague). They said nothing is wrong with your iPhone, inspected with their so call 'tool' or software ...

I have made a lot of calls and complains but there are no use at all. They will just replied yes we are aware of this issue, and apple is investigate. My last call with apple support was very unpleasant with a guy (with very strong UK accent) told me NO, Apple will not replace or even exchange you another iPhone, even you go send again or what so ever the feedback will be the same. Please keep you phone update and ..... you are welcome to let us know if there are still appearing the issue after the update in future ...

Great then, I have gave up.

@sempai68 i think you are also from france right ?

Yes. Need to upload some video I took to YT. Only really noticeable in lower light or dark scenes. OLED TV's have same issue for years only Panasonic seems to have solved it using dithering.

" HZ2000 also delivers clearly defined shadow details, although you can, if you move close enough, see some artefacts from Panasonic's 'dithering' implementation (see picture on the right) used to avoid brightness pops in the darkest grey tones.

Anyways, last time I noticed it was recording slow-mo video indoors in dimly lit scene. Playing back video on phone entire screen flickered like crazy almost thought phone was broken or something!

I think Apple is maximizing performance for the display that’s why we have the so-called OLED issues of not displaying true blacks all the time. This performance setting is to mitigate both smearing and image retention.

So I’m thinking they’ll provide us with a setting with option between “Quality” or “Performance” in another OS update if they can’t get both.

Yeah man... I’m starting to think the same. If they wont fix this in January im selling this crap, and yes I will probably lose like 100-200 Euros but why the **** should I live with a crappy display like this? I wont even bother to send it to the repair center because the response will be “everything is fine with your phone”.

Even the cheapest phones with OLED displays can deliver proper blacks. I owned many devices in the past but never experienced such issues. This is ridiculous few months have passed already since the issue appeared and company like Apple dont ever care about it. They have 0 interest in the customer the most important thing is to get the money.. 1200 Euro phone looks worse than some 100 Euro phones with LCD displays...

That is very infographic thanks

but you can't compaire oled to LCD

as it will of course appear tinted specially to green as the green subpixels are already twice as much as the other two

problem is with the new iphones that they are tinted to show more which have a great hit on the color reproduction so they appear tinted

problem is that apple does not give the option to personally calibrate it (the color filter is a hue slider you can't precisely edit the display colors)

I decided to sell my 12 Pro Max as I can't refund or replace

Apple will not fix that with a software update the display is calibrated at the factory you can't recalibrate it as other good displays will be harmed

so sad that it became a lottery now when you buy a new iphone you may get a significantly worse display than others what's new with this year that the affected users are much more.

As I said it behaves well and has no flickering but when the brightness drops to around 30% there is a sort of active backlight and the black pixels do not turn off completely. A display like this could also be fine, it doesn't have an obvious defect to ask for a replacement. While mine is unwatchable! The flickering is quite a serious problem and if it is not resolved by January I will return it.

I bought the 12 pro max on the 12-27 and have returned it twice and got my refund . Mine had a yellow tint . I have an XR and when I placed them next to each other it was like night and day . The only way to achieve almost a similar look as the XR was to turn off True Tone and adjust the tint settings. I thought the 12 was supposed to the best iPhone but now you got to make all this changes to achieve a somewhat similar look like an XR? . So disappointed. I will wait for the 13 at least it’s rumored to have 120HZ
