iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

SO after getting two brand new iphone 12 pro max, after ordering Like 9 models , i can confirm all fot this weird LCD like screen in pitch black room on a blakc wallappaer in full screen in photos apps ( to reproduce the issue easily ) or even by jut booting each phones out of the box in my bathroom with no lights on , ( you see this grey flicker...

I got 2 12 pro max today starting with F2 week 51 of production, like most of the ones i got , it's way better than the last one i got starting with G0... the issue is still present but barely visible specialy on one model + no yellow tint...

So i send pics to apple, and they confirmed to me THAT THEY DO NOT READ THESE FORUMS... AT ALL...

if u cant this minor issue ( in their opinion and i agree ) to be fixed , you need to call them and spend 30 min or 1 hour max with tech support and explain them all of this.. issue is software cos it never happen with brigthness at 100% and when the phone boot at first, the screen is perfect , you see the apple logo and then the grey flicker comes for a few seconds, it means that so cores components that initialize when booting up like all the sensor in the notch must be causing a little software bug that most ppl do not see.

they do have enough reports of this specific issue.. if all the people here were to call them maybe they'll will really look into the issue.. i've send pictures to them, spent some time with them, and it's the only solution for a fix to be coming ASAP.

hope most of you will calll them . otherwise they may fix it when 13 is released..

Thanks! We seem to have very similar PMs. Mine is Week 49 also with G9Q Display and an overall very good display. Same issue with not perfect - but barely noticeable - raised blacks till 25-30% brightness, although I can under certain conditions (with specific test videos) provoke some flickering at certain brightness levels.

Think that might be “as good as it gets” display-wise for the Pro Max to this point. So I’m really thinking about keeping it and hope, this raised black and flickering issues (which obviously are intertwined) can be solved via software.

I wasn’t meaning a solution, it was more of test for the behavior of the display under the combination of two software actions (brightness+reduce white point). It’s just under said conditions the display behaves normally as it should be.

Also, in the past when I had the iPhone XS, it had a frame rate drop issue that some others shared at that time when you play games for example. My turnaround for that issue was to turn on the screen recording on iOS 12, but when iOS 13 came out the issue was resolved and there were no longer these frame rate drops.

So maybe it’s similar here, since there were XS’s that performed excellent out of the box, and the same here that there is a minuscule amount of iPhone 12s that have no display issue?

Though, it would really suck if we have to wait until iOS 15 just for it to get resolved.

Has anyone in this lottery received an iphone 12 without this defect? My brother received his 12 pro in late December, and after careful analysis, his iphone also flickering at less than 70% brightness while my 12 pro taken in October has both green tint and flickering below the 90%, mine is in very bad shape while my brother's is much better despite having the defect. the question is: is there any iphone 12 without this defect?

I don’t think there is much of a chance that anything about the particular tint of a display will be “fixed” via software. They’re just calibrated that way. Some are cooler, some are warmer. It has always been that way. I hope though, that at least the flickering / raised black issue, where the pixels don’t turn off under some circumstances (which they can) can be fixed by an update.

This is the reason I am holding off getting a 12 again. I had the Mini, went to the Pro Max, then back to the mini. All had display issues. I have been sitting on store credit for a while now and am reluctant to spend it on an iPhone 12 of any sort until this issue is resolved. I might just wind up waiting until the 12s/13, whichever comes in the Fall of 2021

so i've send the first iphone pro max i've had day one and waiting for a refund, i've ordered 2 more starting with F2 production week 51 but issue was less present but still here...i even ordered another onbe starting with G0 production week 52 and at first it seemled better but when brightness is low it doesn't have agray or green tinit but a RED tint... so i have a return 3 iphone 12 pro max... i dunno what to do ... order another one or 2 ?? ,i wonder if Apple could say , hey it's enough u already send us back 4 iphone 12 pro max .. please stop ordering ... is it possible ? or they do not care ?

i'm sorry but at 1609 euros i want a perfect OLED black screen in pitch black... is it too much to ask ??

what do you thin about the fact that i will send and ask for refund on 4 iphone 12 pro max ? can i order one or two more to give it a chance ?

i wonder if someone got one with a production week 1 or 2 in 2021 already , i would be interesting to know the first letter of serial number and if the issue still exists...

They'll just mess with the default whitepoint on all iPhones to make it less green looking. Problem with that though is will mess up all the phones that already look good or don't have very bad green tint!

This is why I went back to LCD display until Apple can get whitepoint correct for the newer OLED displays!

So, it's safe to say it might take Apple a while to nail the whitepoint as good as it did with the old LCD panels.

I had the exact same experience! I had 2 PMs. The first F2 and the second G0. The F2 had a G9Q and the G0 a G9N Panel. I observed exactly the same. F2 had a grey glow that might appear green on fotos whereas the G0 had a bit less pronounced but rather red glow at 0 % brightness. But even though the G0 had a red glowing it also had a more green tint to it when displaying greys at very low brightness levels than the F2.

I also kept the F2 ;-)

Jan 27, 2021 6:25 AM in response to GobiTodic

To @GobiTodic in fact i had to keepthe last i got it a G0 serial number but honestly the light red glow u see is really barely noticeable even in pitch black .. and some F2 i've had were worse on the grey flicker... so i decided to stop ordering and returning iphones, and keep this one.

i"m pretty sure it is software. wee will just have to wait for an update... and for the person who asked if i used true tone, I NEVER USE THIS lmao, i hate it... so of course true tone was disable ;)
