iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

I agree, the yellow tint looks really bad and you shouldn't have to waste time trying to fix it yourself by changing hue and using workarounds.

This is basic functionality and apple was doing it fine so far with all previous iPhones so the best iPhone that they've ever done (iPhone 12) should not have a FAULTY SCREEN! Especially for this price tag.

Amen to that. Totally on the same page. Their calibration of whites is completely off and cannot be fixed with software so it’s manufacturing thing and so a flaw in the design.... such a shame voor this expensive brand. This is the last iPhone I ever bought, the most expensive one too but I just hate the screen colour so unusable for me and my eyes. Even my son s iPhone 6s has a nicer lcd panel to look at :-). Will stick to my X till it dies end the buy another brand with perfect screen. Fed up with the fact that Apple doesn’t recognise this as an issue.....but for many people it is clearly an issue.

Guys this thread is specifically about the green tint and flickering issues. but it is slowly turning into a 65 pages of various apple rants. Can we keep the topic limited to the issues at hand? inacurate whites, true tone feature, apple now vs apple then, are not a part of this problem. I’m following this thread to see if anyone has any update about the first two issues, or to help people having the same issue. But having to read through all these irrelevant posts is making it really hard to get any useful information out of this place which totally goes against the purpose of the thread in my opinion.

It is not my answer or your answer or anyones answer. I’ve been here from day one. and lately i am going through 20-30 posts every day with a really small percentage really has to do anything with the actual problem at hand. You’re free to speak your mind of course, if you have anything to say about the issue that this topic was created for, or if you are somehow contributing to the people having that problem in anyway, go ahead. These are not my rules, it’s just common sense. my message was not to you alone, don’t take it personal.

There will be no updates. Apple decided to let it slide. 2 months ago at least they tried to listen about this issue. Now Apple just pretend they don’t know anything about this issue. If you show it to them — they say they don’t see anything. This forum and 65 pages are not a proof for them. This is not a software issue as some people really have good displays. It’s a hardware issue and they just can’t do anything except to replace each defective oled panel with a good one.

I’ve watched a movie last night — and it was blinking like ****, from green black to proper black colors every second. My room was lit by the way, and we just decided to watch other movie on tv instead as it’s uncomfortable to watch at this state any videos except HDR ones.

That’s the latest news guys.

I’ve also thought that, but there’re numerous amount of people who claim that they don’t have flickering/green flashing after a few replacement. Don’t see any reason not to believe them. I believe this is a hardware issue and it can’t be fixed by a software. You can’t refund your phone either as Apple still officially won’t acknowledge this issue. And we’re stuck in this loop.

Ironically Tim Cook said something similar 7 years ago why OLED not good enough for iPhone DOH!

Tim Cook says you can't trust the color accuracy of OLED displays, and he touts the Retina Display as a superior experience

"What Apple does is sweat every little detail," he said. "We want the best display, and I think we got it."

Anyways, if you don't notice issues with your iPhone 12 don't go looking for them because you will as this very long thread shows!

Returned my iPhone 12 and still waiting on refund. This is why I don't recommend returning iPhone unless you absolutely have to since in California anyways cannot return in Apple store so have to mail it back and wait up to 5 days to get refund whereas in store get it right away!

I might try iPhone 12 again when store open back up so I can try to get better display than I had if iPhone 13 doesn't come out before then. Not worth the hassle at the moment :( Hoping my iPhone 12 display was just a bad batch but can't afford to play panel lottery until pandemic over :( Compared my iPhone 12 mini to a iPhone 12 max and display looked way better and had actual whites like current iPhone SE so maybe they got lucky and got one of the good displays or maybe like someone said more QA or better panels used on the highest cost iPhone 12 max?

Really missing the camera of the iPhone 12 was best I ever used on camera phone that was for sure! I notice how much slower autofocus on iPhone SE2 I'm currently using in comparison not to mention way worse picture and video quality :(

wouah never seen it so bad... im complaining for mine just because it had a yellowish tint out of box that i color corrected with color pickers, and when in pitch black room the screen will be visible even with a pure black picture, the OLED light doesn't turn off... i've ask for a return, and i will get two new iPhone 12 pro max monday so i will be able to tell you if one of both even are perfect...

Hey all, iPhone 12 in hand here. I dunno if it qualifies to be posted here, because I don't have a green or yellow tint, no colour inaccuracies, but I noticed some illumination when in certain apps. For example when watching a YouTube video in landscape and changing volume, when the little volume bar appears I get white illumination from end to end on my screen, not the whole screen but like a finger wide around the volume bar. I'm posting mainly to give hope, because imo it's a software issue. I tried recording a full black video to recreate the problem, but it doesn't happen . Volume bar shows, but no glowing illumination. Hope it gets fixed and everyone gets to enjoy a true oled experience.

Jan 9, 2021 11:38 AM in response to Muha7a

I also have this problem related to this strange illumination along the volume bar but I think it is software, in fact starting the same video through safari and not through the youtube app the problem does not arise .. but I have a very yellow tint and a green tint in dark environments .. I am waiting for a replacement of the device hoping it will be resolved
