iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

I’m so disappointed by this issue... I have it on a near day-one iPhone 12 Pro, had extensive chat with level 2 support in November, i’ve sent videos to them, they acknowledged there was an issue but told me this will probably be gone with an IOS update. No news since and no official statement from Apple.

This evening I took time to record a side by side video with my 12 Pro compared to my XS. Filmed with my 11 Pro, fixed focus and « fixed » luminosity.

Is this worse or same as what you are experiencing ?

I have the « fake oled » issue too, black pixels does not turn of before staying 2-3s still, even in native apps and settings.

Perfect oled blacks at the start of the boot with the bootloader but raised blacks / grey / LCD-like panel as soon as the IOS takes the lead.

Guys so I just got news from apple executive that they are trying to fix this problem and factories are being sent updated calibration details, so probably the update will target the factories and the production week. From now on could everyone please post their first 2 characters of serial number followed by production week and then also yes or no raised blacks. This would help a lot.

mine is:

C7

47

yes (raised blacks)

I returned my phone after waiting for an update for almost 2 months. While returning, I tried my best to explain the genius guy that this issue (raised blacks and flickering) affects a lot of phones in iPhone 12 series. I was expecting him to propagate this information to other guys.

This morning I received my return receipt and the reason of return is “customer changed his mind”. This is horrible. Never seen apple’s approach being so casual.

Tried the same thing in Belgium apple store Brussel. They didn’t even want to help me, no repair offer or replacement of the phone since I past 14days return right. Explained like you, they ran some diagnostics on my phone and said everything is normal>> no defects so no reason to return or repair. Walked out of store with same issue and same phone.....

So i got the bills for the 2 iPhone 12 pro max i've ordered , one on the 25th of december and one a few days ago , the funny thing is that Both starts with the same serial number F2 like the one i have who just have a yellow tint and the grey flicker on pitch black room.

i tried to enter the serial numbers on the netherlands website it says they have been both produced week 51...

so not sure if the problem is resolved...

i'll see tomorrow i'll have both in hands.

G0 is from USA. Here are my thoughts on the oled lottery. There are different factories G, C, F etc are the different factories which assemble the iPhones, the number or character that follows is the factory number as they are placed in different locations. Foxconn has a factory in USA too. The first 4 numbers of the imei are the model and there are different revisions for improvements, for example 4 of the iPhone minis i got had 3530 starting of imei which were all bad, later i got another one which was 3529 which was also not good, my current one i have 3595 which is leaps better than all that i have had before. Moving on, the production week could be a deciding factor here because different factories may have got notifications at different points in time about the screens being defective based on the complaints received and therefore it is important for us to double down on this to find already with the serial number and imei which one is already revised and having flawless displays. I hope all of this makes more sense now.

Here are more good iPhone 12 from my friends:

Good iPhone 12 with no raised blacks, no green tint, no yellow tint from friend:

S/N: FFXDP...

Week: 48

issue: none!

Good iPhone 12 with no raised blacks, no green tint, no yellow tint from friend:

S/N: FFMDG...

Week: 46

issue: none!

Seem‘s to me that iPhone 12 from Foxconn (S/N starts with FF...) are good ones, because all good iPhone 12, that I know, have a S/N that starts with FF...

Maybe Apple should investigate here more deeply!

Yes, checked with black photos, black videos (from YouTube), compared side by side with my iPhone 12 Pro.

I've also made photos from the display with my Canon DSLR with ISO 12.800, f1.4, 10 sec. exposure-time. There is definitely no light when these iPhone's show black!

And there is definitely no flickering when playing back videos with black content!
