iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

probably XD I still got the link tho. Weird if its like that for real. I registered my iphone for service Ill see how it goes probably they will tell me theres no problem at all then ill bring it again and again if that does not work I guess theres no other opportunity but to sell the phone and lose money by doing that. If I have to do it i wont be buying iphones any time soon thats for sure :)

@Micaltech

i have the same experience. I sent 2 times to repair center and got back with replies the screen is not defect with checked by their tools. And once in Genius Bar in france same result. And I called 3 times reach senior advisor and got replied they will never replace my iPhone 12 Pro, never he mentioned a times to me, never. Hahaha. So I give up but I report him to customer service after that becuase his attitude and tone that he used is not right talk like this to a customer. So now I give up try to ignore the flickering and black raised screen 🙈

Got my Week 49 12 Pro replaced today.

By Week 44, G6 factory model.

There are still some issues in total dark, but much less of them.

No green tint on low brightness whatsoever.

There are some occasional raised blacks when changing phone's orientation and line on the bottom appears, and when starting a video, but blacks are turned off during a playback.

I don't want to go through another replacement, I can live with that minor thing either this is software or hardware related issue. But the hardware aspect, which is partial green tint, is gone for good for now.

P.S. Overall panel's color temperature is neutral white, without shift to yellow.

Thats really interesting as F17 serial number was notorious for having bad panels so they probably have corrected the issue. I am not sure if anyone has iPhone 12 mini with a good display, i have personally tried 6 of them and all of them have this problem, i am going to get my 7th one tomorrow after playing the return game for so long, i just hope that i get a good display already.

Just a Feddback about the 2 iphone 12 pro max i've ordered, i found out that the 14.4. beta 2 lessen the little gray flicker that happens and compared to the Day one Iphone pro max i've just returned today who had a yellow tinit , the screen are perfect, and the issue is still there but not bothersome at all. i'm fonna keep one of both after testing both devices extensively...

Hey, thanks for the update.

Could you elaborate on that a little after you’ve done your testing? In what aspect exactly did the iOS beta lessen the flickering issue and did you test it with the same device that with the older firmware showed flickering to a greater extent?

What production week are they? And do they still show a green tint at lower brightness levels?

Thanks! We seem to have very similar PMs. Mine is Week 49 also with G9Q Display and an overall very good display. Same issue with not perfect - but barely noticeable - raised blacks till 25-30% brightness, although I can under certain conditions (with specific test videos) provoke some flickering at certain brightness levels.

Think that might be “as good as it gets” display-wise for the Pro Max to this point. So I’m really thinking about keeping it and hope, this raised black and flickering issues (which obviously are intertwined) can be solved via software.

Same here.

1st Pro max:

Week 44 F2LD

Raised blacks below 99%, upto 0%.

Flickering with black videos below 80%. So much flickering that can strain the eyes.

Gaps on the left and top of the screen.

Returned after using for almost 2 Months.

Bought 2nd Pro Max yesterday:

Week 51 G0ND

Raised blacks below 20%, upto 0%.

Flickering has reduced a lot, but it is still there.

This time the gaps are on the bottom and right.

Which means they have made some improvements in the latest batches. But the problem is still there. Not sure why cant they fix it fully.

Not sure if I keep this one or return this and wait till March when there will be a fix.

I wasn’t meaning a solution, it was more of test for the behavior of the display under the combination of two software actions (brightness+reduce white point). It’s just under said conditions the display behaves normally as it should be.

Also, in the past when I had the iPhone XS, it had a frame rate drop issue that some others shared at that time when you play games for example. My turnaround for that issue was to turn on the screen recording on iOS 12, but when iOS 13 came out the issue was resolved and there were no longer these frame rate drops.

So maybe it’s similar here, since there were XS’s that performed excellent out of the box, and the same here that there is a minuscule amount of iPhone 12s that have no display issue?

Though, it would really suck if we have to wait until iOS 15 just for it to get resolved.
