iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

Has anyone in this lottery received an iphone 12 without this defect? My brother received his 12 pro in late December, and after careful analysis, his iphone also flickering at less than 70% brightness while my 12 pro taken in October has both green tint and flickering below the 90%, mine is in very bad shape while my brother's is much better despite having the defect. the question is: is there any iphone 12 without this defect?

So guys i think there will be a replacement program after one year of shipping the defective iPhones, i just got my AirPods Pro replaced because of a hardware defect that i didn’t know about but got to know yesterday from Zollotech. My noise cancellation is not as good as it was before, i didn’t really pay attention but now that i hear, its quite evident and apple started a replacement program after a year of introducing the AirPods Pro saying that all the models shipped until one year could have a hardware issue and the replacement program for it exists. It’s a pity that the replacement program is so hidden away from us. Why don’t they make it public enough. Pity!

I am really starting to lose faith in apple. I was a die hard fan of apple and now its beginning to change.

I wouldn’t lose faith yet. I still think it’s a software glitch and the reasons behind my assumption are the following:

1) A similar, if not the exact same, glitch occurred last year with the 11 series, then it was addressed and fixed by Apple with iOS 13.6.1;

2) When “faulty units” get replaced or when we unbox a brand new phone, they perform flawlessly. After two-three weeks of usage the flickering gets worse and worse;

3) When we boot up our phones, for the first two-three seconds the screen is completely black, thus meaning that the problem arises when the OS is loaded.

There’s a good chance we’ll see the light sometime soon between now and the end of March/April, but don’t quote me on that.

I don’t think there is much of a chance that anything about the particular tint of a display will be “fixed” via software. They’re just calibrated that way. Some are cooler, some are warmer. It has always been that way. I hope though, that at least the flickering / raised black issue, where the pixels don’t turn off under some circumstances (which they can) can be fixed by an update.

This is the reason I am holding off getting a 12 again. I had the Mini, went to the Pro Max, then back to the mini. All had display issues. I have been sitting on store credit for a while now and am reluctant to spend it on an iPhone 12 of any sort until this issue is resolved. I might just wind up waiting until the 12s/13, whichever comes in the Fall of 2021

Totally understand you. The only problem with that is there’s no guarantee that all the iPhone 13s or 12 S will come out with perfect screens without any issues. I had three devices (2 x PM and Mini) all with slightly different (but generally good) screens, except they all suffered from raised blacks (only noticeable in pitch black room). Decided to keep the first Pro Max since apart from that it’s a perfect device. So either Apple fixes it via software or I will go to the store and get a replacement in about a year.

I couldn't agree more. The only thing I worry is that the next iPhone will have fingerprint reader in the screen which is a huge factor for my decision. I have been using the SE now with a battery case and love the fingerprint scanner for things like apple pay. I am also still torn between the Mini and Pro Max. I have enough credit in my apple account to get a 512gb Pro Max but If I spend the money on that now and then something new comes along, I will feel better holding onto the SE and waiting another 7/8 months for the 12s/13 to drop. I'm terribly indecisive as you can tell!

Both iPhone X and iPhone 12 have the same previewed picture, which is in dark grey color not in black/pitch black/pure black. The green glow gets stronger as the image being displayed goes nearer to darker colors. However, there’s no green glow when the image being displayed is pure black because of course, pixels would turn off if the image is black, therefore having no green glows. :) But still, having grey being displayed results to green glows. When other colors are displayed, I notice that the part of the screen having those green glow also glows a lighter color with regards to what color is being displayed on the screen. For instance, when I’m looking at a pure blue image on my gallery, the part of the screen with green glow makes the blue color on that part lighter than the rest. I’m sorry for a complicated explanation but I hope you understood it. 😌
