iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

My problem I’ve noticed while watching Star Wars movies at Disney+ App in a completely dark room. The screen keeps a backlight, almost like LCD screen, on the opposite side from the notch.

I’ve tested with a full black image and the problem didn’t happen. But if there’s something on screen 1% lighter, the green light appears again.

My current iOS version is 14.4 (iPhone 12)

I had the exact same experience! I had 2 PMs. The first F2 and the second G0. The F2 had a G9Q and the G0 a G9N Panel. I observed exactly the same. F2 had a grey glow that might appear green on fotos whereas the G0 had a bit less pronounced but rather red glow at 0 % brightness. But even though the G0 had a red glowing it also had a more green tint to it when displaying greys at very low brightness levels than the F2.

I also kept the F2 ;-)

To @GobiTodic in fact i had to keepthe last i got it a G0 serial number but honestly the light red glow u see is really barely noticeable even in pitch black .. and some F2 i've had were worse on the grey flicker... so i decided to stop ordering and returning iphones, and keep this one.

i"m pretty sure it is software. wee will just have to wait for an update... and for the person who asked if i used true tone, I NEVER USE THIS lmao, i hate it... so of course true tone was disable ;)

The problem with Lock screen "backlighting" ONLY appears when Do Not Disturb is active and ONLY depends on it.

Once Do Nit Disturb is off, there is my pitch-black Lock screen. Other settings including TrueTone, Brightness level, Auto-Brightness, Night Shift and Dark Mode in any combinations do not affect this.

I'd say that the bug is caused by Do Not Disturb Lock Screen sticky message, although the screen-tint is present even when the message is dismissed.

Does anyone knows if Apple is already allowing Authorized Service Providers to service iPhone 12 devices having this green tint/glow issue? Does anyone here tried to have their phone serviced and replaced successfully at Service Providers? Note: I am asking about Service Providers only as we don’t have Apple Store in our area.

I have read reports back in November 2020 that Apple told its AASPs to avoid servicing iPhone 12 devices having green tint issues, but until now, there’s no still solution to it.

This green glow issue on my iPhone 12 was present since it’s out of the box, iOS 14.1 and last week of October 2020 as production week. There’s this iOS 14.4 came, but it didn’t solve the issue. And there’s this iOS 14.5 beta already and it seems to be that the supposedly “software fix” that’s Apple Advisors told me is not in that iOS 14.5 yet.

So, what now? I’m losing hope and getting frustrated already. Why do they have to avoid servicing these iPhone 12 devices having that green tint/glow issue for a long time. Why do we have to wait, for how many months? Unlike in iPhone 11 devices last year, I think green tint issues occured on iOS 13.5 and immediately fixed on iOS 13.6.

So after ordered 5 Iphone 12 pro max , still waitinf for 3 refund, i kept one and still can return it, but IOS 14.5 dev beta soesn't fix the grey flicker i have ... btw thx to siri now i precisely say that the gray flicker on pitch black picture is happening only when brightness is below 55%... so weird.. but i think i'll keep it, cos to me it is software . otherwise when the phones were booting in a pitch black room the screen would have this flicker as soon as it boots, and it happens each boot after some time when the apple logo appears, wich means it is related to software.

The thing about perfect black during the boot is that the screen is working on max brightness level (on which issue doesn't occur). It is then, closer to the end of the boot process, being changed to a lower value set by user or a brightness sensor, followed by raised black/backlighted pixels glow, then you see a screen is uncapable of working properly.

In that case they should at least repair devices that have uneven tint so that they have even green tint right? My screen has a green tint at the top and red tint(or lack of green tint) at the bottom. They say it is part of the green glow problem (I agree) and will be fixed soon via an update and reject to repair / replace my phone. I don’t think they would acknowledge that it’s a problem and avoid fixing it forever at the same time. That would be illegal/fraud.

Even advisors in Apple Chat Support are now confusing. Other advisors tell us that devices having such green tint issue doesn’t qualify for replacement and we must wait for the said fix from a software update. But recently, I tried to report the same issue of my device on the chat support again to ask for an update. I sent a photo of the issue and The advisor told me that my phone needs to be serviced since all troubleshooting steps are now done but none solved it.

I have hesitations if I would continue going to an Apple Authorized Service Provider (we dont have Apple Store here in our country) because 1.) AASPs in our country might reject my request for service since there is a said internal document from Apple that told its AASPs to avoid servicing phones having the issue and 2.) I am 500kms./300miles far from service centers and my efforts might be wasted.
