iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

Agreed. Though, in my case as mentioned before, I can't return nor replace my phone due to me not noticing this issue early and selling my Xs. So, sadly, and I hate to say it, I am forced to live with whatever this defect is (hardware/software).

Though as a customer now, Apple has left a dent in my trust, and it will be bigger if this issue isn't software and turns out to be hardware with them being silent or silencing the so called "big YouTubers" so that they don't lose their privileges of "early access and invites", and they start a year later a program to replace these displays and saying at the top of the letter "Only a small percentage is affected", which would be aggravating to all of us.

Either way, because of this device, it will be hard for them to get a sweet grand+ out of me.

the one thing that angers me most is that we all have been told, verbally, that apple is aware of the problem and to wait for an update but there is some comment written by some employee or some official press release? all companies can have problems, especially in a period like this, but a company like apple should have released a official statement talking about the problem ..my fear is that no solution will be given .. at this point I expect everything .. let's hope so, I still want to trust apple

It’s not possible that after months apple didn’t fix it yet! We spent a lot of money for this new iPhone and it’s not correct that most of us has the same problem and Apple don’t let us do anything.. We cannot change it at the apple store and also with the last software update the bug is not fixed.. i’m really sick of it

@dhakku

I know about this YouTuber you are talking about and have been following his videos regarding this issue.

He clearly mentioned, as per the diagnostic test his display was faulty, so the Repair centre has replaced it, had it not been caught on the diagnostic test they would have refuse the repair.

Few pages back, another user from India has submitted his device "twice" with the service centre, but was refused the display replacement because they couldn't find any fault with the panel.

And as mentioned by @Micaltech that in his country, until it shows up on the diagnostic test or Apple declare it as a hardware defect, Repair centre won't replace the display or the phone.

I want to reiterate once again, all the reports that "newer batches have solved the raised black issue" are absolutely false, I have confirmed on various forums about this issue and even the latest "3rd week January 2021" produced device has exhibited the raised black and green tint issue.

Feb 9, 2021 8:42 AM in response to ifromduluth

Guys I don't know if the green tint problem is related to another problem I encountered .. having applied a dark background I saw the Clock application frame not black as it should be but gray, all off after applying a completely blue background magically the frame of the Clock app, as well as the black of the voice memo app, has turned black again as it should be .. i can't explain it but it's like there is a problem with dark backgrounds and pixels going crazy and they don't understand if they must go out or not

Feb 9, 2021 8:50 AM in response to Micaltech

I realized that the green tint only happens when I’m watching a movie/series. For example, when the Netflix N appears it is all full black but the N. But when the movie has a dark scene, the charger side of the iPhone 12 has that green light.

I’ve tested with full black pictures and that green light doesn’t appear 🤔 I really think it’s a software issue...

SO after getting two brand new iphone 12 pro max, after ordering Like 9 models , i can confirm all fot this weird LCD like screen in pitch black room on a blakc wallappaer in full screen in photos apps ( to reproduce the issue easily ) or even by jut booting each phones out of the box in my bathroom with no lights on , ( you see this grey flicker...

I got 2 12 pro max today starting with F2 week 51 of production, like most of the ones i got , it's way better than the last one i got starting with G0... the issue is still present but barely visible specialy on one model + no yellow tint...

So i send pics to apple, and they confirmed to me THAT THEY DO NOT READ THESE FORUMS... AT ALL...

if u cant this minor issue ( in their opinion and i agree ) to be fixed , you need to call them and spend 30 min or 1 hour max with tech support and explain them all of this.. issue is software cos it never happen with brigthness at 100% and when the phone boot at first, the screen is perfect , you see the apple logo and then the grey flicker comes for a few seconds, it means that so cores components that initialize when booting up like all the sensor in the notch must be causing a little software bug that most ppl do not see.

they do have enough reports of this specific issue.. if all the people here were to call them maybe they'll will really look into the issue.. i've send pictures to them, spent some time with them, and it's the only solution for a fix to be coming ASAP.

hope most of you will calll them . otherwise they may fix it when 13 is released..

The color (blacks) of your app icons don’t change “magically” when you throw a different background image behind them. You perceive them (the contrast) differently relative to the brightness of the background image. That is why even good LCD displays (on a TV for example) can look entirely black to the human eye as long as there are a few other bright objects visible in the image. The moment you take them away and switch to a complete black image, your former (perceived) perfect black would “magically” turn into a dimm grey. So in that aspect, your panel is fine.

I noticed that for the first time 3 weeks after getting the phone. I tried to open a video which is just true black and I noticed something interesting. When you first put it in full screen you will indeed see this glow. Few seconds after the display will indeed turn to true black. It's almost like the display is trying to correct it.

Update from my side:

I‘ve got my 7. iPhone 12 Pro this Friday with F17... SN and production week CW02 2021.

Still raised blacks, flickering when playing back movies with black content, but no green tint. The whitepoint and grey looks better to me than on my „old“ iPhone 12 Pro.

So in my opinion the raised blacks are definetly an software issue, because I‘ve never saw an perfect iPhone 12 Pro without raised blacks.

For me it’s only partly fixed.

When the ui has a pure black background (IE: Settings/Software Updates or inside a Note in dark mode) It it fixed but when the ui has another colors in it, it’s still broken (IE: Notes List, Watch App)

You can notice it in the apps by scrolling to the bottom and forcing the elastic effect.

In the pure black youtube test (https://youtu.be/aXHcRiSK_ys) it looks fixed when it’s displayed in fullscreen but when the video is not fullscreen and there’s more elements in the ui you can see the blacks flicker.

It’s very frustrating.

Apple please, get your sh**t toghether, these are supposed to be flagships.
