iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

SO after getting two brand new iphone 12 pro max, after ordering Like 9 models , i can confirm all fot this weird LCD like screen in pitch black room on a blakc wallappaer in full screen in photos apps ( to reproduce the issue easily ) or even by jut booting each phones out of the box in my bathroom with no lights on , ( you see this grey flicker...

I got 2 12 pro max today starting with F2 week 51 of production, like most of the ones i got , it's way better than the last one i got starting with G0... the issue is still present but barely visible specialy on one model + no yellow tint...

So i send pics to apple, and they confirmed to me THAT THEY DO NOT READ THESE FORUMS... AT ALL...

if u cant this minor issue ( in their opinion and i agree ) to be fixed , you need to call them and spend 30 min or 1 hour max with tech support and explain them all of this.. issue is software cos it never happen with brigthness at 100% and when the phone boot at first, the screen is perfect , you see the apple logo and then the grey flicker comes for a few seconds, it means that so cores components that initialize when booting up like all the sensor in the notch must be causing a little software bug that most ppl do not see.

they do have enough reports of this specific issue.. if all the people here were to call them maybe they'll will really look into the issue.. i've send pictures to them, spent some time with them, and it's the only solution for a fix to be coming ASAP.

hope most of you will calll them . otherwise they may fix it when 13 is released..

I couldn't agree more. The only thing I worry is that the next iPhone will have fingerprint reader in the screen which is a huge factor for my decision. I have been using the SE now with a battery case and love the fingerprint scanner for things like apple pay. I am also still torn between the Mini and Pro Max. I have enough credit in my apple account to get a 512gb Pro Max but If I spend the money on that now and then something new comes along, I will feel better holding onto the SE and waiting another 7/8 months for the 12s/13 to drop. I'm terribly indecisive as you can tell!

Mine’s getting worse day by day. I can’t tolerate having it anymore. Apple is just there sitting quietly and keep on ignoring us.

I don’t want to wait for that software update because I’m sure this is a manufacturing defect. This wont be fixed by a single software update as users having this issues differ from each other. Others have severe and different locations disgusting green glow on their screens.

Why did a phone like this passed through their quality control? I did not spent much money just only to have a phone behaving like this! How frustrating.

It's not complicated I posted plenty of pictures of my iPhone 12 before I returned it showing there is a very strong green tint at all brightness levels making the rest of the colors look incorrect. It's like having nightmode enabled all the time, which gives a very strong yellow tint, also making all the colors look wrong! At least with night mode and truetone you can disable simple enough but not green tint since most likely hardware issue due to poor QA or maybe relaxed QA standards due to pandemic! Might be a fix for that as there was for the iPhone 11 depending on how widespread issue is and how many returns or complaints Apple gets would be my guess.

I tried speaking to Apple Support couple of days ago. Their representative had given me following response on raised blacks/glowing issue problem. It's obviously copy-pasted, but sure seems like an acknowledgement. The answer doesn't indicate if the issue is software or hardware related though. (pardon for any grammar mistakes, I'm not a native speaker).

Lol, I started this thread 4 months ago and Apple is just passed this issue as a feature as always. Today my friend showed me Samsung Galaxy A51 (230$ Vs 1000$ lol) and it has perfect black oled screen... Also I noticed it has time always ON on display — because THAT’s how normal oled should work. And Apple’s iPhone 12 is just has really cheap oled panels. I don’t even need a fix anymore, I’m just using this broken phone while I’m trying to sell it. Shame on you Apple for cheating on your customers.

Does anyone knows if Apple is already allowing Authorized Service Providers to service iPhone 12 devices having this green tint/glow issue? Does anyone here tried to have their phone serviced and replaced successfully at Service Providers? Note: I am asking about Service Providers only as we don’t have Apple Store in our area.

I have read reports back in November 2020 that Apple told its AASPs to avoid servicing iPhone 12 devices having green tint issues, but until now, there’s no still solution to it.

This green glow issue on my iPhone 12 was present since it’s out of the box, iOS 14.1 and last week of October 2020 as production week. There’s this iOS 14.4 came, but it didn’t solve the issue. And there’s this iOS 14.5 beta already and it seems to be that the supposedly “software fix” that’s Apple Advisors told me is not in that iOS 14.5 yet.

So, what now? I’m losing hope and getting frustrated already. Why do they have to avoid servicing these iPhone 12 devices having that green tint/glow issue for a long time. Why do we have to wait, for how many months? Unlike in iPhone 11 devices last year, I think green tint issues occured on iOS 13.5 and immediately fixed on iOS 13.6.

In that case they should at least repair devices that have uneven tint so that they have even green tint right? My screen has a green tint at the top and red tint(or lack of green tint) at the bottom. They say it is part of the green glow problem (I agree) and will be fixed soon via an update and reject to repair / replace my phone. I don’t think they would acknowledge that it’s a problem and avoid fixing it forever at the same time. That would be illegal/fraud.

The latest batch seems to be fine. No raised blacks in videos, no flickering in videos. Displays true blacks at all brightness levels.

There seems to be only one issue with the YouTube App and the volume icons . If you a play a video with a black /dark background, and try to adjust the volume, you get a kind of glow only on the side of the volume icon.

If you switch the orientation, the glow also switches to where the volume icon is displayed. Again only on YouTube and in landscape orientation. I checked with iPhone SE, it also has the same issue. Don't have another oled phone to check the behaviour.

The photo will brighten the glow, but will give you an idea about what I am referring to.
