iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

honestly, now I am unsure how much correct are the sites that show the manufacturing date , display type , quality etc .

someone here mentioned that last week they recieved an iPhone 12 Pro Max from week 48, whereas their earlier iPhone 12 Pro Max was from week 51/52!🙂 not sure how much accurate are these sites that predict manufacturing dates , display types etc !

Well, I think you can trust that information. Because Apple follows a specific “code” with their serial numbers. You don’t even need such sites to determine when and where your phones where manufactured. The numbers and letters are dedicated to specific factories and production dates. You can google that and manually check for yourself. Aside from that Apple produces millions of devices in no time. And if they produced more devices last year than maybe they expected to sell during the Xmas season but didn’t, it may very well be that they still got stock that was produced last year.

A week ago i update my iphone x to ios 14.4.1 and after 3 days voila my phone now has green tint and a green patch near the battery icon. First i followed standard troubleshooting restart, shut down, reset all settings, erase all content and settings and finally restore using itunes well nothing worked.

contacted apple support then they say to book appointment and give phone to apple to verify the issue. its a long and costly process considering the fact iphone x is out of warranty.

finally somewhere on reddit came across a post mentioning the same issue and users suggested to update to ios 14.5 beta or wait for official release voilaaaaaaa its fixed now :)

Both me and my partner bought our iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max on the same date and appear to have the same issue (flicker on black / dark scenes). Today I think I found a potential fix.... I turned off auto brightness and set it to max and played a white / black strobe video on you tube that lasted 10 hours. I now no longer seem to have the issue

The best way to check for "green tint and raised blacks" issue is by reducing the brightness to 20%, enable the dark mode and then open the settings>general>software update and on this page itself check for green tint and if the blacks are pitch black or if their is any glowing affect.(Perform this test in pitch dark room and let your eyes adjust for few minutes).

You could also perform this test on clock app, you will be able to notice the above symptoms, if the panel is faulty.

heck if I can tell. I would say yes to the bottom navigation bar light emitting into the black areas but it could be the glass screen protector I got from Apple…. I don’t wanna take it off to find out. With night shift it definitely seems to appear more greenish I just don’t understand why the grey bars in dark mode don’t appear to be uniformly one solid color rather than sorta patchy bars…. Also at 0 brightness the grey color definitely shifts blue ….I don’t think that’s normal. But I don’t own another OLED iPhone to compare…..

Hey all, after going to the apple store 2x and chatting with them via apple support 3x they FINALLY replaced my iphone 12 pro max. Been testing it all day since getting it. Can confirm that raised blacks are no longer an issue. I don’t really notice the green/yellow tint with true tone on but I would say the colors aren’t as vibrant as my other phones; a little dull. Phone was manufactured in 1/2021. See attached.

Still experiencing the problem on 14.5.

Before, the pixels would stay on for a few seconds then shut off at 20-50% brightness, and >20% they would never turn off. Now, they turn off faster at medium brightness, and at >20% they DO turn off, but it can take a few seconds, and there has to be nothing moving on the screen. It helps a bit with nighttime reading but it's still very noticeable and annoying. One thing that does seem to be completely fixed is video. The black sidebars no longer glow at any brightness.

Yup the Green tint issue hasn’t gone yet, It’s actually has become better and worst at the same time, like I keep a black screen as my BG for my lockscreen and as I swipe up to unlock, I see a weird pattern believe it for not but I guess the green tint issue has become better for video watching and I wont say It’s fixed cause I did notice green tinting on few videos.
