iPhone 7 lagging when unlocking

Wondering if any iPhone 7 users have experienced this issue whereby the phone will lag and become very sluggish when unlocking the phone. This issue arrived when I updated to iOS 14 and I didn’t have this problem in iOS 13. After unlocking , the animations will turn off and opening apps, scrolling through your apps will be really really laggy. After about 10 second when the unlock icon at the top of the screen disappears, then everything run as usual. Please respond if anyone have faced this issue before.

Just adding my voice to the thread, had this infuriating issue on iPhone 7 since iOS 14 launched.

As someone earlier in the thread pointed out, it does seem (at least in my case) to be related to pushing the button to wake up the phone. This appears to not wake up the CPU correctly leading to a period of intense lag.

Enabling "Wake on Raise" and then raising the phone to wake it, before unlocking the phone via Touch ID works perfectly. It's important to note that pushing the button to wake still causes lag. You must raise the phone to wake it.

An awful workaround, but since Apple doesn't seem to care about the issue, it will have to do.

I can confirm that enabling sound recognition is indeed a workaround for the issue, but only if at least one sound is selected.

So far, I found 3 ways that helps the lagging issue:

  1. Press power button first, then unlock with Touch ID.
  2. Use raise to wake, then unlock with Touch ID.
  3. Turn on sound recognition with at least one sound selected.

However, turning on sound recognition prevents the phone going into deep sleep mode (as someone mentioned previously). This might decrease battery life, which could be more noticable during the night (I have not tested it yet). Another drawback with this solution is that the 'Hey, Siri' function is not available while sound recognition feature is on.

@drag_og Yup, it's fixed. I tested in silent mode as well, and it's 100% fixed. I tried locking and unlocking around 50 times, and didn't encounter the lag even once. Additionally, another improvement in 14.6 is that my battery only drained 1% overnight. I'm not sure if this is because the lag was fixed or another improvement, but great to see regardless. I'm so glad my phone's usable again.

Here is the solution step by step guys:

1: JB your iphone

2: setup LastLook tweak

3: problems will be gone

I think the problem occurs in A1778 models. Source of the problem is the bugs when phone trying to go into deep sleep mode. But this problem occurs when phone immediately try to go into deep sleep mode after lock your iphone. Thats why when you open click sound at the lock, there is no problem for 10 seconds. Or when you are charging there is no problem. Or when you open flashlight there is no problem. What we do with this tweak is; preventing the phone to go into deep sleep mode why we locking it. Instead of go into deep sleep mode while locking, phone is waiting 5-6 seconds to go into deep sleep mode with this tweak.Problem is %100 solved. I found and using this solution for 2 week. There is no problem after all. Also there arent any problem with performance, battery etc.

I tried to explain to you simply. I used many programs to find this log. I cant explain more because this JB thing has made this comment been removed :) I hope you can manage it.

So dear apple care family, this is a %100 software problem. We expect to find a correct fix at the next ios updates. I can work for you because I’m an software engineer. Waiting for your proposes. Stay healthy.

After observing my iphone 7 a thousand times i can say that deep sleep is the culprit. Whenever i wake and unlock my iphone suddendly by touch id, it lags severly.

But if i pick it up and wait a sec for raise to wake, it unlocks completely fine without any lags…

And Apple engineers are so dumb to fix this small issue related to deep sleep… Really disappointed…

IOS 14.3 iPhone 7 128GB eith 95GB free space. Everything was okay until update to IOS14. Only where I can have less lagging or no lags after unlock is when I disable touch Id and passcode, then I'm noticing almost non lagging after unlock and working fine. But when I activate touch id i get that 5 seconds lagging after unlock with touch id. Tried erace all finger scans and put new finger scans, tried reset, turning on and off phone and nothing helped. Unlock with tpuch id and click on app and I get white screen then I get messages and then I dont have keyboard and then finally comes, or somethines I unlock and I'm in app already and I'm start typing and nothing its like frozen and after 3-4 seconds unfreeze and what I type keynoard typecitcself in seconds and it works after that. Or with songs its lagging in apple music like Im using iphone 3g. This start to be very very frustrating to that point that I'm thnking of sell iphone, apple watch and cancel all subscription and go back to android.

I turned on „reduce motion“ and now the iPhone has become much faster during the lag. It does a short and light vibration though when the lag ends which I noticed already shortly after upgrading to iOS 14 even when it didn’t lag. This vibration might have something to do with the reason of the lag.

Also it looks like „reduce motion“ makes the phone generally faster as well.

The workaround works:

1) raise your phone with raise to wake on, so that the screen goes on

2) unlock the phone with Touch ID

I have been trying this since yesterday and got no lag. It is basically like using Face ID, since you raise your phone showing towards your face and then once the screen is on you unlock it. If you unlock it directly when the screen is off, it might lag.

Maybe it has something to do with the optimisation of sleep Mode: it somehow hasn’t been optimised for Touch ID but only for Face ID?
