iPhone 12 screen brightness issue

My iphone 12 pro brightness is inconsistent. Its dims or gets darker screen when its at max and after i sleep my screen and wake it again, it gets much much brighter.

As if it was on 25%. Its seems to me like a lag or something of the sort happens to the screen. Any suggestions?

Hi all!

Just check that you've switched off the Auto-Brightness feature (please don't confuse with Settings->Display & Brightness->Automatic !).

You need to switch off these features here:

1) Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Auto-Brightness

2) Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Reduce White Point

(frankly speaking, turn off all features in the Display & Text Size).

The iPhone 12 Pro's display is amazing in compare to iPhone 11 Pro.

Cheers 🙌

I’ll sit back and wait for you (and others’) feedback before I invest more money and frustration in an “upgrade”…. The news says if you have a 12, there is not much reason to upgrade to a 13. Remember I downgraded to the 11Pro. I’m in a holding pattern for a while… hope your feedback will show on this same discussion group…

We all understand the optimum range for these phones. One the many months I have followed this discussion, it seems apparent that you have not experienced the problems the other thousands of us have, nor do you seem to acknowledge the issues that so many others are having. I am happy for you that you got a working iPhone 12 and do not have the issues we have experienced. There is a hint of doubt and disbelief that we are reporting a major issue, and you continue to quote Apple's "range" and emphasize that this is not a "real" issue. Again, I'm glad you are not experiencing these problems and have not spent money on a device that does not work well.

You said "much quicker than any other previous iPhone".... I started with the iPhone 4 --NOTE: I've NEVER had another iPhone that quits working (black screen and occasional red warning on the black screen saying the device is too hot and shutting down) when I'm taking a picture in the mountains on a cool sunny day, when trying to read a trail map when I'm hiking, when trying to take a family picture at the campground in the shade and the screen is so dark I can't see the objects. My friends with Android phones have to be my back-up during those situations because my phone is hot and the screen is dark, and useless. My phone doesn't run a lot of apps and I don't expect a lot from it -- I just expect it to take quality pictures (the reason I upgraded to the 12) and allow me to run maps so I can get from Point A to Point B (on foot, or in my car). As said in my last comment, I'm glad there are a few people who have not experienced this issue with the 12, but I know many who have experienced it.

I’m totally with you and yes I am saying the iPhone 12 definitely has a problem. I’m sick and tired of mine dimming outdoors with any photo or video activity for example. It’s useless and I can’t see the screen within 5-10 minutes on a summer day.

I only ever rant into this with iPhone 8 when I left the phone in a hot car for a while under the sun. That was extreme and totally expected.

My dimming issue iPhone12 so far as I know only happens when using the Uber app. I’ve tried just about everything and it’s becoming very frustrating! I fear running off the road while driving just to see my phone clearly! My old cheap Android LG phone stayed bright all the time doing deliveries. You get what you pay for,

I guess,? Haha Apple!!! (Very funny, NOT!!!)

This brightness issue is very serious and needs to get resolved by apple , 12 pro is worst apple phone I have ever used. If you don’t keep brightness level to 100% you will feel screen is dark and apps or photos are not that visible as it should be or as it is on other apple phones. Can’t believe apple can disappoint people like this after all hype and success they have got.

Hello ! I just want to join in with the same problem. I’m on vacation and my friend could take any picture with my phone because it was so dark even the brightness was on 100%. I experienced the sam problems as all of you but never realized it was a bug until i switched phones with my friend. Omg what a difference.

APPLE you need to fix it as soon as possible

thank you

I believe the right thing to do for a big company like Apple, is to recall the iPhone 12 pro max and fix this overheating and screen issue, or replace it with a newer model. I’ll even settle for a downgrade to an iPhone 11. A R35 000 phone which I waited 4 months for to be shipped to South Africa should be the best quality. I havent had any problems with any of my iPhones. I started with a 4S, upgrading every 2nd year.
