iPhone 12 screen brightness issue

My iphone 12 pro brightness is inconsistent. Its dims or gets darker screen when its at max and after i sleep my screen and wake it again, it gets much much brighter.

As if it was on 25%. Its seems to me like a lag or something of the sort happens to the screen. Any suggestions?

It s happening to me when I am under the sun for 30-40 minutes. Gets significantly darker without any reason (brightness settings are all max and manual with True Tone disabled). If I go to the brightness menu settings still brightness is at max level but I cannot restore brightness at this level and the screen is significantly darker

Same issue as all of you are reporting. One of you said the phone typically does this when the temps are about 90 degrees... (Most recent experience with the dark screen and overheating was in temps about 93)... Well, My BIG concern is I'm traveling to Egypt in 9 days -- Temps will always be above 90, sometimes over 100 in Luxor. I take all my pics on my phone. I will be heartbroken if I am not able to take pictures on my once-in-a-lifetime trip. Will talk to Best Buy tomorrow, but Apple didn't offer any advice except re-starting it (I tried that, and it didn't make any difference)... Can anyone give me assurance that I can take pics in Egypt's heat??? Any advice on things that have worked to prevent the overheating (I've got it in airplane mode and all apps closed), and the screen from darkening/?

This is correct, I was out yesterday in 95 degree heat, took my phone to a car show, iPhone 12 Pro Max didn’t perform as it should. My phone overheated, picture quality was so dim I ended up taking off my sunglasses to see the screen even more. I had a logo or symbol pop up saying my iPhone is overheating and needs to be cooled down. That’s just a poor build Quality imo. APPLE, MUST FIX ISSUE!!!

UPDATE: - spent 2 hrs with a Certified Apple Technician at Best Buy, who got online with Apple. They ran some diagnostics, and determined my phone has a KBB (KNOWN back board) problem. They are going to replace the display board and see if it resolves the issue. However, the Apple Tech said this is a known problem with iPhone 12's, and it might continue having the same problem.... if so they will replace the phone, but I might still have the same problem because it is a KNOWN problem with the iPhone 12's... Not necessarily good news, but at least it's info. Might be worth it to take your phone in and get it checked with Apple's diagnostics and see if you can get some help...

Screen dims on it's own and does not respond to disable of this feature I have spent HOURS on the phone with customer support of this issue and zero resolution and customer support has closed the case over and over.

I saved and bought this size phone for vision problems and it randomly keeps dimming while in use for ZERO apparent reason to me making it unusable. I returned to apple product from samsung for THIS phone and SO DISAPPOINTED to get an expensive piece of unusable technology. It does this inside my home under day conditions without direct sunlight but becomes worst using it outside the home as I RARELY do. Maybe once a week? For google maps. I spend 1-2 hours with phone max per day usually INSIDE air conditioned home. And I am NOT using it in warm/hot conditions although I am in Texas. Today was 69 degrees. I did feedback from the link

I’m hearing stories here of Hot phones and screen dimming while indoors in air-conditioned environments.

Now that is very odd. I have been able to reproduce this issue, but every time under direct sunlight or very hot conditions while in use, and always outdoors. I am wondering if certain phones are having much more severe reaction to even warm temperatures than others.

Thanks for your suggestion. I sent my issues and complaints to Apple today in the link you provided. As stated earlier, even tho Best Buy replaced the display after I complained and after the diagnostics showed a KBB (known) issue, she told me not to be surprised if the issues start again — she said, “That’s what the 12’s do…”.

Mine used to be the best untill winter. Now the simmer is here, when i use outdoor, the phone warms up in 15 to 30 min and screen brightness reduces. After that i was never able to get the full brightness. Nite the auto brightness in display and brightness setting and the accessibility setting is off. Still no solution. I have to say the phone gets warm very fast
