iPhone 12 screen brightness issue

My iphone 12 pro brightness is inconsistent. Its dims or gets darker screen when its at max and after i sleep my screen and wake it again, it gets much much brighter.

As if it was on 25%. Its seems to me like a lag or something of the sort happens to the screen. Any suggestions?

Hi all!

Just check that you've switched off the Auto-Brightness feature (please don't confuse with Settings->Display & Brightness->Automatic !).

You need to switch off these features here:

1) Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Auto-Brightness

2) Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Reduce White Point

(frankly speaking, turn off all features in the Display & Text Size).

The iPhone 12 Pro's display is amazing in compare to iPhone 11 Pro.

Cheers 🙌

same thing here. I just bought a 12 pro. Screen brightness randomly changes brightness. I have switched off any automatic screen adjustment stuff in settings and still happening. Apple, anything? This is a huge problem for me. I do a lot of photo editing on this device (not the best idea...) and now I can’t trust what I’m seeing. Thinking of returning this phone.

The issue I’m having is similar but different.

When I have the phone at full brightness with no overheating or sun issues,and put the phone in standby sleep and then wake it, the screen is always at 50% brightness. I have battery screen all set not to do this, but Apple insists I brighten the screen each time I wake the device. This is frustrating

I think it’s Apple writing code to do this to protect the future value of the screen when I upgrade. But I’m buying this phone and paying duckets for it.

I don’t like this intrusion and hope it is corrected before I take the complaint higher up

This happened to me as well, thought my phone was defective. I got lucky and was able to see just enough to raise it back up. Of course when I went to speak with the Verizon phone rep (I had just bought the 12 mini) the screen magically was brighter. it seems to only happen in sunlight, get really dark then slowly brighter and after a couple of minutes snap out of it and brighten all the way back up to where it should be...apple needs to fix this now.

This has happened with every iPhone I have ever owned! After downloading IOS14.4 is when is started on my 12maxpro. Doesn't matter what you change the settings to it remains "dim" unless at full brightness and inside.

I think it is what the English car manufactures use to refer to as a "CAC" Customer Acceptable Condition - a condition the customer just has to accept cause we don't know how to fix it.

Very disappointing

I’ve tried to reproduce the effect myself and have not been able to do it. What I remember was that I had my camera open on the phone, placed it lenses side down for a couple of minutes. When I came back to pick it up, it was hot and the screen was covered in small lines of various colors. Tried to turn it off, mistakenly ended up with a 911 call screen, and when i tried to clear it the phone was suddenly in super zoom. Finally got it to reboot and that’s when I noticed a while later that it was dim in sunlight, took me a week to stumble upon the zoom setting that once i clicked it off the phone brightened immediately, clicking it back on did not effect brightness.

That’s weird because mine is constantly doing this and it hasn’t gotten above 35 degrees where I am in weeks. Why just today as a matter of fact I was sitting in my dressing work truck and had just taken my phone out of my pocket and started a video while my truck was warming up. Within 2 minutes the screen looked like I flipped off the lights in a roomy dimly lit by the sun. It does this many times a day and lasts for hours. I have triple checked my settings and I have the brightness all the way up and auto dim turned off.

It’s a glitch with its hardware I believe. With the new 5G speeds the design and hardware can’t keep up and causes to over heat internally. It’s 64 degrees and is acting like I’m on the beach in direct sun! Apple make it right. Find all those faithful customers that bought your defective product and make it right. U aren’t worth trillions without us.

I enjoy iPhones. I have the latest best iPhone 12pro. However, I’m a disabled Vet who is slightly visually and hearing impaired. I battle constantly in trying to keep my iPhone bright enough. I also battle incessant warnings to turn down the volume. I literally feel harassed by my phone which is just ridiculous. I can no longer support your product with this approach to business. Alas, I am at a loss, because I love everything else about Apple products. Just crazy frustrated in hitting a wall with the brightness and sound chastisement. Please consider my feedback for those like me with sensory disability. Thank you for you time and attention. James
