Does the iphone 12 scratch easily?

i have my iphone 12 here with me still in the box, i’m scared to open it as a quick google search has resulted in many people saying their iphone 12’s have scratched really easily. As i’ve payed £799 i don’t want to scratch it, any answers?

Your prerogative, of course.

But be aware that the Samsung forums are full of customers complaining how easily their screens scratch, and Samsungs come with a screen protector preinstalled from the factory.

Corning, and the industry as a whole, worked together to move to a glass that is somewhat easier to scratch but is much more shatter-resistant.

You can add a screen protector to protect against scratches; there’s nothing you can apply to a screen to meaningfully protect it from shattering.

Older phones were less likely to scratch but used a harder glass that was more likely to shatter upon impact.

Newer phones use a slightly softer glass that is more resilient to impacts.

This is largely because a $30 screen protector can protect your phone from scratches but nothing can be easily added to protect your screen from damage in case of impact, and $30 beats the $300 for a new screen.

Yes, scratches really easily!

After much abuse my older iPhone 7 had really one nasty scratch on the screen after a hard fall and some microscratches after many years of use.

I made the mistake of not using a screen protector on my new 12 pro since I thought the newer screen with the Ceramic Shield had to be much better than the old 7.

Nasty surprise it was after less than 2 months of normal use and having the phone in my pocket without anything else in there. I have some serious scratches and a deep one as well that I can feel with my nails.

Too bad Apple that the marketing is better than the product itself.

This is the claim on Bell Mobility's website. I filed the issue with Apple support and went in to document the issue after 6 weeks of use, 4 of the days without a screen protector. 4 major scratches (like run the finger nail in them) and hundreds of minor spiderweb scratches. My protector doesn't cover the camera and it's showing noticeable web scratches which will soon cloud images... again, just in 6 weeks. My SE didn't suffer that after 5 years of use. According to the store, if not repaired under the limited warranty, my after care will cover most of the cost of a screen replacement. Keep speaking up and registering this as an issue and eventually they will have to do something.

I just picked up my 12 Pro Max this past week. I was in my driving yesterday with my iPhone laying on the passenger seat. I also had my work-provided Samsung Note 20 Ultra on the seat as well. I had to brake hard to avoid a collision so both phones slid onto the floorboard. I keep my vehicle very clean and vacuumed out. When I went to retrieve the phones guess which one had a scratch the entire length of the screen? Yup. The iPhone. I never put screen protectors on my phones and have never had an issue with my previous iPhone 8, X or 11 Pro Max - and my X took a tumble in Grand Canyon once and came out unscathed. 🙄

Well due to the fact the only thing in my pocket with the phone was lip balm and the closest thing to phone that was harder was the copper rivet in my pants seam..... 3 to 3.5 is the hardness of the copper rivet. Add to that, there are absolutely zero scratches on the case side of the phone. You can believe what you wish, but I know what my evidence is, I have a soft screen. You arguing other wise is like arguing what the weather is today and being in a different city. From the other statements here and on other sites, I find it very hard to believe there is not a problem with some of the screens on the 12.

You can find it hard to believe, but until someone posts a video with scientific proof that the screen is too soft, that's where the situation lies.

Mohs picks exist for a reason, and were this widespread or even common, someone who had them or knew someone with access to a set would have posted a video by now showing the screen scratching at a level below 5.

Certainly the Android web sites and Apple rumor sites (and Forbes, who hates Apple) would love to post such a video, yet they have not.

That's not conclusive, but it's certainly telling, and would be evidence it would be hard for Apple to refute of a manufacturing issue.

Scratches incredibly easily... even on objects that aren't particularly hard nor sharp. Barely had my 12 Pro for a week and have been extremely careful to keep it away from anything made of metal but sadly it already has a nasty looking groove in the middle of the screen. I love the phone so far but it is a little upsetting to see the damage so soon on my new device... not sure what to do about it. My old phone now looks less used than my brand new one... I just added the liquid protectant to the 12 Pro display in hopes of preventing further scratches.

Yes it scratches incredibly easy. Really disappointed as I was beyond careful, not taking it out with me or putting it face down/anything on top of it. I had 5 days since opening my phone to wait for the screen protector to arrive and on the 5th day it has a deep scratch which I can fit my nail into. This has never happened with my previous models and for such an expensive phone and being so careful with it, it’s incredibly frustrating.

I had an iPhone 6S for several years. I’m obviously very careful with my phone. Not a scratch when traded in 3 mths ago. New iPhone 12 Pro had minor scratches within a month.

Made a WEAK paste with baking soda and water. Put the smallest amount on my finger and VERY gently, used a circular motion on the scratches. Mine were in the center so I was able to avoid the opening at the top of the screen. Wiped dry with a soft micro fiber cloth. Screen looks brand new. I’m about to order a screen protector.
