Does the iphone 12 scratch easily?

i have my iphone 12 here with me still in the box, i’m scared to open it as a quick google search has resulted in many people saying their iphone 12’s have scratched really easily. As i’ve payed £799 i don’t want to scratch it, any answers?

Yes, worse phone screen ever. & I even went to the Apple store about it & they said it’s not covered under warranty, I’d had it less than a week. I’ve had to fight with EE to get a refund. I’m so unhappy with it & the stress I have had from ringing Apple and EE all week, they’ve finally agreed to accept it back & I think once my 12 is received by EE and I can upgrade again, I’m going to go with Samsung. My 12 is scratched so bad after less than a week, my old iPhone 7 is in much better condition than my 12 so I refuse to pay all this money for a such a low quality phone.

Pick one:

1) You can purchase and apply your own screen protector of your own choice.

2) Apple can provide one and raise the price accordingly.

Personally, I much prefer choice #1.

Samsung does #2 and applies one at the factory; you can read numerous posts elsewhere from Samsung owners annoyed they are paying for Samsung's protector when they want to apply their own on other forums.

If you really dislike screen protectors, use a good case that covers the screen, absolutely no putting it into or taking it out of pockets anytime it would rub across the screen and make sure your hands are always clean, and you can do it; many people do just that.

If you can figure out a way to do that, you will be a billionaire.

Apple hasn't, Google hasn't, Huawei hasn't, LG hasn't, Oppo hasn't, Samsung hasn't, Sony hasn't and Corning, a company that's been doing research into making glass since 1851, hasn't.

Physics dictates that as glass becomes harder (more scratch resistant) it becomes more brittle; if glass is made less brittle so it can survive drops, it becomes slightly softer and easier to scratch.

You have to pick one, and phone manufacturers have decided rather than have customers spend $300 to replace their screens every time it falls 18" to go with stronger but slightly more scratch-prone glass because you can add a $30 screen protector, you can't easily and inexpensively add something to prevent harder glass from shattering.

Well, the issue as I see it, this screen is more susceptible to scratches and requires a screen protector, yet the phone is being advertised with

With that in mind, people here are not complaining that they had to buy a shield, but are complaining that they didn't know they had too due to advertised "toughness" and the relative ease that the screen gets damaged. I myself had the phone without a shield for 6 days and it ended up looking worse than the iPhone se I bought 6 years ago. Apple can't have it both ways.

This is easily the worst screen on an iPhone. Mine scratched with nothing more in my pocket than what I carried everyday with my 7Plus. 7Plus didn't have a scratch after over 3 years carrying it. This one has three scratches after two weeks - deep scratches that I can feel with my finger nail and pad of my index finger. I don't know what the difference is, but it this is what advancement in glass technology looks like, then I'll take old school.

I can attest to the easy scratching, this is my 4th iPhone and all the others have no damage at all. The new one was scratched from either salt, pepper, dust, or other debris on my kitchen table. It didn't leave the house in 3 days while I was waiting for the screen protector to arrive. Very gentle use in 3 days...this is the most expensive phone I have ever purchased ($1600 in Canada) after being so happy with my 8 Plus. I was looking forward to the camera upgrades and the bigger screen. It will take me 2 years to pay for it.

I have had it for a few months now. There are scratched on the screen by the speaker and camera that is not covered by the screen protector. Scratches on the Stainless Steel sides from putting and removing a case. And I have a cut on my finger from sliding it over the protective glass shield every time I open the phone or need to close an app.

My iPhone 12 has scratches all over the screen even one on the back, I haven’t done anything to result in these scratches I’ve been very careful and haven’t even left the house because of lockdown majoratively. I got it at Christmas I don’t understand why it’s so fragile I’m very unimpressed. Just a second a go I dropped it by accident 5 cms maybe onto the concrete and thankfully the screen hasn’t broken but in the top right corner are small dents and you can see the silver under the red colour. The phone just seems way too fragile given how long apples has had to perfect this. This is meant to be a phone to last me through university till my first job gifted from my parents so I’m devastated it’s already getting scratched all over! I hope apple can fix this ASAP

This is my 4th iPhone and it's the first time that I have scratches in my sreen. I open my new iPhone 12 last saturday and I've dedicated a cople of hours to transfer my information from my iPhone X, after that I notice that the display of my new Iphone 12 has serveral (at least 6) scratches. I revised carefully all the iPhone when I opended it. I was not exposed to any impact or rubbing that explains the scratches. I'm so disapointed and I feel cheated.

Yeah. You should feel cheated. We are all cheated. I get it, these screens are more shatter resistant. This seems to be accomplished by using softer glass. And that softness scratches easily. I, for one, assume that shatter resistant would mean no more screen protector. But clearly we need a screen protector still. Not for shatter protection but for scratch protection. Kind of negates the point.

@Suttonh. I agree with you. Apple should have informed the consumer about the vulnerability of the new glass screen.

Hopefully, they’ll take action after reading all these negative comments. Going forward........there will obviously, be a lot of scratched screens when they inspect for trade-ins so, they will need to take their, “ failure to inform,” into consideration.
