Does the iphone 12 scratch easily?

i have my iphone 12 here with me still in the box, i’m scared to open it as a quick google search has resulted in many people saying their iphone 12’s have scratched really easily. As i’ve payed £799 i don’t want to scratch it, any answers?

Your prerogative, of course.

But be aware that the Samsung forums are full of customers complaining how easily their screens scratch, and Samsungs come with a screen protector preinstalled from the factory.

Corning, and the industry as a whole, worked together to move to a glass that is somewhat easier to scratch but is much more shatter-resistant.

You can add a screen protector to protect against scratches; there’s nothing you can apply to a screen to meaningfully protect it from shattering.

My iPhone 12 has scratches all over the screen even one on the back, I haven’t done anything to result in these scratches I’ve been very careful and haven’t even left the house because of lockdown majoratively. I got it at Christmas I don’t understand why it’s so fragile I’m very unimpressed. Just a second a go I dropped it by accident 5 cms maybe onto the concrete and thankfully the screen hasn’t broken but in the top right corner are small dents and you can see the silver under the red colour. The phone just seems way too fragile given how long apples has had to perfect this. This is meant to be a phone to last me through university till my first job gifted from my parents so I’m devastated it’s already getting scratched all over! I hope apple can fix this ASAP

The night I got mine I had the sellsman put an expensive screensaver on it. I started noticing scratches at the top of the phone. I was pretty upset that the screensaver was scratching so badly, I was really upset when I removed it to get a new one that the screensaver didn’t have any scratches. They were on the phone itself. I’ve had IPhone’s since they’ve came out. From the first tiny one, the 5’s,6 plus’s, the 8 plus and none have been as scratched up as this 12 Pro Max. I had XS Max since launch, never used a screen saver and it has no scratches at all. It’s gotten dropped at Bonnaroo and 30 thousand Phish fans walked on it, it was pressed as hard as possible against a railing during Childish Gambino. **** it even fell out of my pocket on the Areo Smith Rock N Roller coaster at Disney. Not a single scratch. This one look like it got more scratches than Dead Mouse and Skrillex combined.

Mines the same! Mine had awful scratches less than one day after taking it out of the box. After a week I’ve an absolute mess. I’m taking it up with Apple because I feel like they’re falsely advertising it as having a strong screen when this isn’t true at all. I’ve had my iPhone 7 two years & the screen on that is amazing! Still no marks on it. This 12 is a total waste of money if this is what the screen is meant to be like. I’m assuming it’s a manufacturing fault, if not I’m sending it back, no much worse quality than much older phones.

Omg- the screen protector is not the issue. The issue is clearly that Apple made a HUGE mistake with an otherwise scratch-proof phone in years past to an inferior glass type in it’s newest model.

Even the best screen protectors won’t solve that issue - as mentioned in this thread by multiple users whose phones scratched WITH an almighty screen protector.

ps- take your screen protector and stick it where the sun don’t shine. It’s worse with than without. Take yours off (iPhones 11&12) and see the damage it can do once a small fragment of dirt is caught in the edge-day after day scraping into the iPhone 12s delicate surface-Worst advise ever.

If your going to put anything on - use the liquid glass or ceramic. This saved my phone from the dumpster. For now.

i bought iphone12 after 6 years with my iPhone 6S. Never even put a screen protector on the 6S. NO SCRATCHES! But while at the Apple store and handling by the employee to set it up it got scratched! She put it back in the box and when I got home noticed a long scratch across the entire screen sideways. I’m really ****** off that I have to go back to the store and expect them to believe me. Cheap POS screen.

This phone is objectively garbage because it’s too scratchable I’ve gone completely caseless for almost 10 years because they’re unwieldy uncomfortable and ugly and I’m forced to buy a case for this behemoth because it’s screen is so terribly soft. If i can’t put this phone anywhere near anything at all without a big gouge developing in the top of the screen it’s actually a terrible failure.

takes good photos though i guess.
