Does the iphone 12 scratch easily?

i have my iphone 12 here with me still in the box, i’m scared to open it as a quick google search has resulted in many people saying their iphone 12’s have scratched really easily. As i’ve payed £799 i don’t want to scratch it, any answers?

Yes, worse phone screen ever. & I even went to the Apple store about it & they said it’s not covered under warranty, I’d had it less than a week. I’ve had to fight with EE to get a refund. I’m so unhappy with it & the stress I have had from ringing Apple and EE all week, they’ve finally agreed to accept it back & I think once my 12 is received by EE and I can upgrade again, I’m going to go with Samsung. My 12 is scratched so bad after less than a week, my old iPhone 7 is in much better condition than my 12 so I refuse to pay all this money for a such a low quality phone.

i bought iphone12 after 6 years with my iPhone 6S. Never even put a screen protector on the 6S. NO SCRATCHES! But while at the Apple store and handling by the employee to set it up it got scratched! She put it back in the box and when I got home noticed a long scratch across the entire screen sideways. I’m really ****** off that I have to go back to the store and expect them to believe me. Cheap POS screen.

I found this thread as was reading an unrelated article on iPhone 12 Ceramic Shield

I find it incredibly odd that there are so many people stating how easily the iPhone 12 screen is scratched.

I got my 12 pro max at the end of January 2021 and is my daily driver. 5-6 hours of daily screen time, constantly popped into jean, shirt and jacket pockets, and flip between several cases.

Never used a screen protector though and in direct sunlight, when I clean the screen with an an antistatic cloth, its like brand new! No polishing scratches or swirls, no micro scratches or hairline marks, nothing!

This is my first iPhone in more than 10 years. In that time, I’ve only used BlackBerry phones. Go ahead and laugh at me for that. But the scratch resistance on my iPhone is anything but hilarious. It’s infuriating.

I’ve used each of my BlackBerry phones for two years or more, and NONE OF THEM have had scratches as deep as my iPhone 12, which is less than a month old! And I never used a case or screen protector with any of my BlackBerry phones. My iPhone has scratches all at the bottom of the display, around the earpiece, in the center of the display…all are deep enough to catch my fingernail. And, like many others here, I haven’t dropped the phone or placed it in my pocket with anything else.

I am going to complain to Apple Customer Support. If they don’t replace my iPhone, this will be the last Apple product I ever purchase.

Hi all,

a good news is that i have successfully got a replacement for my phone. I bought it in Jan 2021 and got scratches 1 month later despite careful usage and protection. I did claim with customer service and he said it was just cosmestic issue and cannot be covered under warranty. I intended not to care about it any longer.

But as i follow this thread and hear more and more complaining about this, last week i tried setting up a repair and chose the reason of “screen or display problem” and sent it for warranty check. They sent me a replacement product within the next day. There could be some batches of bad screens. But whatever, anyone suffering from scratches just follow this procedure. I bet you will have happy endings like me. Best of luck, guys!

This phone is objectively garbage because it’s too scratchable I’ve gone completely caseless for almost 10 years because they’re unwieldy uncomfortable and ugly and I’m forced to buy a case for this behemoth because it’s screen is so terribly soft. If i can’t put this phone anywhere near anything at all without a big gouge developing in the top of the screen it’s actually a terrible failure.

takes good photos though i guess.

Scratches incredibly easily... even on objects that aren't particularly hard nor sharp. Barely had my 12 Pro for a week and have been extremely careful to keep it away from anything made of metal but sadly it already has a nasty looking groove in the middle of the screen. I love the phone so far but it is a little upsetting to see the damage so soon on my new device... not sure what to do about it. My old phone now looks less used than my brand new one... I just added the liquid protectant to the 12 Pro display in hopes of preventing further scratches.

My iphone 12 mini scratched very bad after just 2 weeks of owning. I always take care of my phones, and i trusted Apple when it said it has the hardest glass ever. I have an old Iphone 5S, an Iphone 7, none of them ever had screen protector and do not look this bad. Apple lied with the hardest glass ever on an Iphone. I will try to get it fixed with the warranty as it is their fault, but i doubt it will work. If anybody had the screen replaced or repaired under warranty please let me know.

This discussion is clearly either full of ham fisted users who have no “mechanical sensitivities” to their phone or you have got part of a “bad batch“ of phones which didn’t meet the usual high quality manufacturing standards. Some people are blanket blaming the entire iPhone 12 build line without considering the aforementioned variables!

IF the screens for the majority of iPhone 12 users were that poorly made as is being intimated in this thread, then it stands to reason there would have been a world wide outcry! #Antennagate it is not!
