Does the iphone 12 scratch easily?

Yep ham-fisted, by putting my phone in my pocket. Your username literally has ham in it. It really doesn't matter about any particular variables for a $1,500 phone this is not a thing that should occur. You could and probably should buy a laptop instead.

I’ve had my iPhone 12 Pro Max since January and has been in jeans, jackets , drawers, desks and screen and case is like brand new!

so again these reports are either a lack of care and or a bad batch. As I stated if all iPhone 12 range had this issue there would have been a global outcry

I’m don’t think anyone is saying all 12s are bad. We’re just here to see if others have had a similar experience. There is a common theme here. I’m not hamfisted (whatever that means) and am treating my phone no different than past phones. We were told these screens are even stronger, so why the scratches and what can be done about it?

I’m still wondering if anyone has asked for a replacement and what their experience has been.

If you’re not having issues with scratches, why are you even here?

The screen is stronger… when it comes to shatter-resistance.

Glass either has higher scratch resistance (but is more brittle and prone to shattering) or the reverse.

Since scratches can be prevented with a $30 screen protector but shattering cannot, it makes much more sense to focus on shatter resistance.

I got a replacement for my 12 pro max because of the scratch on the screen. I already posted before and shared my experience, now just re-post the info for any one interested. Just apply for a warranty. I hope you all get the new ones, which deserves your money.

Yep. Had the phone 1 day, already has a scratch right in the center of the screen. If Apple were a decent company, they would offer a free screen replacement for the 12’s. For the amount of money these things cost, they should withstand normal use without damage. I haven’t even had a chance to put the protector on yet, but in all honesty, you shouldn’t have to even do that if it were a decent product.

Apply a screen protector before you even turn it on for the first time, it's just common sense.

It's like saying "I've never been in a car accident before, I'll get insurance when I have a chance" when driving a new car off the dealer's lot.

That’s a bad analogy. We are not having scratches caused by accidents, but normal use. If I drove my new car off the lot and it was rusty a week later, would you tell me I should have paid for the rust protectant or should it have been high enough quality to not rust under normal use?

I’ve had my iPhone 12 Mini since March and I’m very careful with it and don’t have any scratches or knicks on it.

I feel if you do put a case on it, you’d be more careless or reckless, relying on the additional casing to protect it. Just me. I have a special pocket on my handbag to keep it pretty safe from scratches or knicks.

I used this iphone exactly as I used every other smartphone I ever owned. The display is full of scratches, some of them as deep that they can be felt with the fingernail. I have never experienced something like this before and I never used screenprotectors. Very disappointed with the quality of this screen.

I’ve had my iPhone 12 since March and not a scratch. Just be careful with it. Everyone is impressed how I’ve kept it that way. I have dropped it on occasion, but still, nothing.

When it’s in my purse, it’s in a separate pocket for a cellphone. Handle with care and you’re phone will be ok.

Point is that the old iPhones (my 7 Plus for instance) did not scratch at all over 4 years of use. I used this phone the same way and it was covered in scratches within the first week. It may be as designed but it is BS.

Older phones were less likely to scratch but used a harder glass that was more likely to shatter upon impact.

Newer phones use a slightly softer glass that is more resilient to impacts.

This is largely because a $30 screen protector can protect your phone from scratches but nothing can be easily added to protect your screen from damage in case of impact, and $30 beats the $300 for a new screen.

The reason why this happens is because the new glass is harder so it has a lower chance of shattering. However by doing this it's more prone to scratching. That's why I always use a screen protector I also learned the hard way. My phone once got a new screen due to it being so scratched up. It lasted for 4 hours until I counted 3 new scratches. I felt like an idiot not ordering a screen protector.

Mine has a nasty scratch in it (my fingernail clicks into it) after only a couple of weeks - didn't happen with any of my previous iphones for years
