Does the iphone 12 scratch easily?

i have my iphone 12 here with me still in the box, i’m scared to open it as a quick google search has resulted in many people saying their iphone 12’s have scratched really easily. As i’ve payed £799 i don’t want to scratch it, any answers?

Your prerogative, of course.

But be aware that the Samsung forums are full of customers complaining how easily their screens scratch, and Samsungs come with a screen protector preinstalled from the factory.

Corning, and the industry as a whole, worked together to move to a glass that is somewhat easier to scratch but is much more shatter-resistant.

You can add a screen protector to protect against scratches; there’s nothing you can apply to a screen to meaningfully protect it from shattering.

Well then, one of their two claims is a lie. It’s either tougher or more scratch resistant, but it sure as **** isn’t both. I had my 7plus since introduction and it did not suffer from cracking or scratching, and believe me there were opportunities for both many times.

Your experience is not that of many, many others,

People cracked and smashed their screens from a drop quite frequently, and since the iPhone 11 the number of people posting about that has fallen to near zero.

I value scratch resistance over fracture resistance.

That's you; the industry doesn't agree.

I found this thread as was reading an unrelated article on iPhone 12 Ceramic Shield

I find it incredibly odd that there are so many people stating how easily the iPhone 12 screen is scratched.

I got my 12 pro max at the end of January 2021 and is my daily driver. 5-6 hours of daily screen time, constantly popped into jean, shirt and jacket pockets, and flip between several cases.

Never used a screen protector though and in direct sunlight, when I clean the screen with an an antistatic cloth, its like brand new! No polishing scratches or swirls, no micro scratches or hairline marks, nothing!

Hi all,

a good news is that i have successfully got a replacement for my phone. I bought it in Jan 2021 and got scratches 1 month later despite careful usage and protection. I did claim with customer service and he said it was just cosmestic issue and cannot be covered under warranty. I intended not to care about it any longer.

But as i follow this thread and hear more and more complaining about this, last week i tried setting up a repair and chose the reason of “screen or display problem” and sent it for warranty check. They sent me a replacement product within the next day. There could be some batches of bad screens. But whatever, anyone suffering from scratches just follow this procedure. I bet you will have happy endings like me. Best of luck, guys!

This discussion is clearly either full of ham fisted users who have no “mechanical sensitivities” to their phone or you have got part of a “bad batch“ of phones which didn’t meet the usual high quality manufacturing standards. Some people are blanket blaming the entire iPhone 12 build line without considering the aforementioned variables!

IF the screens for the majority of iPhone 12 users were that poorly made as is being intimated in this thread, then it stands to reason there would have been a world wide outcry! #Antennagate it is not!
