My iPhone 12 keeps asking for email password

I recently got an iPhone 12 and set up my hotmail account on the phone through the mail app. In the last few days, it has started asking me to re-enter the password every few hours-now up to 6-8 times a day. I've tried deleting and re-installing the account, but to no effect. I've also installed the Outlook app, and it does not seem to have this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's becoming a real nuisance

I found a temporary workaround for Hotmail (Outlook.com) issues to keep receiving push emails without retyping the PW over and over again: setup Hotmail as imap account, this seems (till now) not affected. Hopefully Apple resolves this annoying problem in the next update!

Receive:

imap server: imap-mail.outlook.com

use SSL: on

Authentication: password

port: 993

Send:

smtp-mail.outlook.com

use SSL: on

authentication: password

port: 587

Same issue since installing iOS 14 on my 11 Max Pro. Only once has it been Microsoft servers as everyone in my household had lost access to different Microsoft online products. Dozens of times now, it’s just been my phone asking for all of my Microsoft email passwords. It doesn’t seem to effect my Gmail accounts so far.

I don’t care who’s problem it is and whether MS or Apple solves it. As a user I only know the issue arose after the iOS 14 update and with accounts that are setup with Outlook.com Exchange (imap and pop mail seem not affected).

So apparently there is an Exchange characteristic that iOS 14 doesn’t like.

At the moment it’s my (and many other user’s) problem having to re-enter those passwords over and over again.

So Apple and Microsoft engineers: please pick up the phone, talk to each other and solve it. The problem has negative impact on both your good company reputations. The risk is that people buy Androids and switch to Yahoo or Gmail.

That won’t work or won’t be a permanent fix if it does. I’ve done it umpteen times. I’ve got 15 email accounts on my iPhone and two iPad pros. This includes aol (unaffected) and two corporate hosted (unaffected) and ten Hotmail/live/outlook account all of which are affected individually or collectively across all devices. Maybe Covid has got into my machines. Pity it doesn’t get into the idiots refusing to acknowledge this and fix it. Corporate contempt at its worst from corporate b’stards.

Of course it’s happening. The fact that we delete and install the account on and off and numerous times doesn’t change the frequency of the problem happening. It’s just a coincidence. It happened to me 3 times this morning after 2 days not happening. Nothing to do with deleting the account and rebooting the phone. Stupid!!! And even more resetting to factory settings.

its ios14 and ios14 only

Same here, iPhone 6s, iOS 14.2.

I have 7 email accounts (5 are hotmail/live/outlook and 2 are gmail).

Ever since the iOS 14 update I am asked multiple times a day to renter my email passwords for my hotmail/live/outlook accounts (not my gmail).

Spoke to Apple, we went through a load of things which worked for about an hour 🙄

This needs to be fixed now please.

You can google anything and there will be an instance of it. So searching isn't always the answer. You could search for "is there such thing as a blue squirrel, and google will find an instance of it. The problem with web search is that there's more fake crap than facts. But one thing is for sure, many people are having this issue after upgrading to iOS 14, otherwise, this thread wouldn't exist. So Apple should be looking into it whether it happens on Android or not, to let us know if there will be a fix on their end or if it's something Microsoft needs to fix with their push service.

Kept bumping into this issue since updating to iOS 14.2. As others posted, the password had not been changed, yet the Outlook account kept prompting sporadically for a password.

Noticed that the issue wasn't occurring on my pre-iOS 14 device and not on my other devices (laptop, etc.). After updating the remainder of my iOS devices, they started to experience the same issue.

I disabled the "Detect Compromised Passwords" (Settings > Passwords > Security Recommendations) option and since I'm using the iCloud Keychain, I navigated to Settings > [iCloudAccount] > iCloud so as to force a refresh/resync of the keychain to the Apple cloud - repeated this process on each iDevice.

Been a few days now and I'm no longer being prompted for a password.

I have 3 iPads and 1 iPhone. I have 12 email accounts. So that’s 48 email accounts to delete and add back if you are taking that as the “solution” and yes, it seems to work so far. Yes, I’m entering the account information manually as per the recommended resolution, but I did that when I added the accounts the original time.

Fortunately, the problem is only occurring on Outlook accounts on iOS devices at 14.2 so for me that reduces it to only 20 accounts to delete and add back. My 2 older Apple devices can’t update to 14.2 and they have been unaffected by the problem so far.

I can’t see blaming Outlook because I even had the issue with one Gmail account temporarily (it resolved itself without any action on my part). As well, Outlook is working fine in all situations except the specific problem case.

After about 12 hours using the recommended resolution, the only email accounts I’m having trouble with are a few of the 20 Outlook ones that I have yet to redo on my iOS 14.2 devices. Seems 100% consistent to me.

What bothers me is that this could happen again with the next iOS update since I have not seen any signs of understanding what caused the problem. All we have is a circumvention that seems to be working for the moment.

It is an issue with IOS 14

at home we have 3 IPhones and 3 outlook accounts and all are asking for password once every 2 days.

my IPad does not have the problem, running IOS 14.2.3 beta.

That is the proof that there is nothing wrong with the account.

Mail has been a problem since IOS 12.

all my customer, about 50, are complaining about it.

please fix it

Thank you
