"an error occurred while installing this update" while upgrading Big Sur on MacBook Pro Early 2015

Downloaded 12.18 GB in an hour and it got stuck for next half an hour and gave me error "an error occurred while installing this update". Restarted the upgrade again, got stuck at 2.44 GB for 15 minutes. Rebooted my mac and started the upgrade again and got stuck again at 2.44 GB (attaching the screenshot).

Now that it’s installed iMac 2015 repeatedly crashes, completely shuts down. I just reset the pram and will see if that helps. Is there a thread for this yet? Anyone else?
