After upgrading to Big Sur OS, my excel crashes frequently.

Oh! I assume your Mac is up to date? This is slightly concerning otherwise! Until the Big Sur changes everything was so stable!

Just realized....Office 365 and 2019 are different. Forgot about the "old" version of 2019..buy up front and then nothing. $149 and you don't even get Outlook or storage

Can't help you there! I avoided 365, because of the subscription thing!

It happened to me, too. In my case, Windows 8.1 + Excel could open it. Forgive me if it may not be universally fit your case.

In Mac, copy the spreadsheet to a other named file having .xls file type and open it with Mac Excel by forcing to open. If you don't have used the latest supported features by .xlsx, it might open. However I am not a designer of either MS or Apple, so this could be a type of circumvention with case by case success ratio. Big Sur seems to have some incompatibility with Excel, in which the typing characters sometimes drops the key input. I think the Apple OS team should listen to us seriously to fix the issue.

Same. Whole Excel crashed. Only gray icon is shown. "Can't open Excel because it's it is damaged or incomplete"

I just downloaded office so I’d think it is 2019. Certainly obnoxious whatever the cause.
