iPhone 12 Pro Max not wirelessly charging

Received my iPhone 12 Pro Max today but it won't wirelessly charge on any of the three Q1 chargers I have. My XS Max and wife's X all work fine. Why is this? I have the Apple silicone case but with the case or without it still won't charge. Starts for a few seconds then the chargers flash a few times and it stops charging.

Have tried the following:

Erase Network Settings - Didn't work

Hard reset (Volume up / Volume down / hold power until Apple logo shows) - Didn't work

Seeing lots of similar posts on other forums. Perhaps the magnets are interfering and Apple just want you to get a Magsafe charger instead?

(Had to select iPhone 11 Pro Max for what device am I referring too as 12 Pro Max not listed)

Try a different power adapter - I bought a wireless charger and was having the same issues, not charging iPhone 12 Pro Max, EarPods and Apple Watch. So I switched the power adapter and used a ‘Anker’ brand Quick Charge 3.0 which solved the issue of the wireless charging for all three devices.

Dear TimG150, with 4 points, you haven't been around these parts long. I appreciate you think you know how this forum works, but you don't. Other than Forum Hosts who review posts for violation of terms of use, and Specialists who answer questions which have gone unanswered for 24 hours, Apple isn't here. It's NOT Fake News. It's Fact and I think having been on this forum for more than a decade helping people gives me a bit of an edge over someone who is clearly unfamiliar with the forum.

If you want to get Apple's attention, you do one of the following:

Provide feedback via the official Apple Feedback link --> https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

You use the Contact Support button at the top of this page

You call Apple directly 800-MY-APPLE (US Number)

You schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar

But you are NOT getting Apple's attention by joining the "me too" chorus on this user to user ONLY forum.

Thx for the rapid reply :)

I am aware of the magnets in the case, yes, however Apple have clearly stated that none of this will interfere with Qi charging. They’ve said that. So the magnets being there shouldn’t matter to Qi charging, otherwise Apple would have said so. Millions of ppl use Qi charging and cases so are Apple really that dumb that they’ve messed that up intentionally? I think not. They’ve ‘dropped the ball’ here big time and made a mistake.

Thanks for the Amazon link too, appreciate it. I’ve got a Pitaka case coming as I’ve always enjoyed those and have the car mount anyway. Been using Pitaka since 2015.

As an update I found a different plug which had fast charging written on the side and plugged that in to the Ravpower wireless charger that wouldn’t work. All of a sudden it is now working done with the Apple silicone case on the 12 pro max. I also ordered a desktop stand which said it was QI certified and again with a fast charging plug and it is working fine also. So I presume it must be the power issue as old plugs obviously didn’t give enough power out. It was an old plug from an Amazon tablet I was using.

This is the stand I am now using fine:

Amoner Wireless Charger 15W/10W/7.5W Wireless Fast Charging Stand, Qi-Certified, Compatible with iPhone, Huawei, Samsung etc. (Power Supply Not Included)

at Amazon and is plugged into this

ULTRICS USB Wall Chargers, 3 Port 6A/30W USB Plug Chargers, Quick Charge 3.0 Mains Adapter Compatible with iPhone 12 Mini/ 11 Pro/XS Max/XR/X/ 8, iPad Air, Samsung S20/ S10e/ S9, Note 10 Plus, LG

Part 2 - lol. I wish I could talk, this typing is so **** annoying.

My last comment was misleading and you’ve answered based on my misleading comment.

I’ll try to be clearer - yes, of course they are Qi compatible and I know that. What I meant was that whilst being Qi compatible, they have not understood how the MagSafe cases would impact this and all of this has stopped mine from working.

I get ‘you’ not wanting MagSafe. I wanted the Apple leather case so had no choices at all BUT for the MagSafe one.

This is clearly to get me to buy their charger which I wont do.

Looks like I’m gonna have to get another Qi stand that works with the 12. But then again, I really won’t as it works fine with no case on so I’m keeping it that way.

I still think the case is broken. I get no MagSafe animation EVER now. I can reboot my iPhone all day long and it just doesn’t work. So I still think there is something wrong with the case. BUT I have no way to test it as I will not buy MagSafe just to try it out. I’m stuck with that too. doh.

Which chargers did you buy lobsterghost1?

Update: It required a few restarts before it started charging on the Apple Mag Safe charger. One thing I didn’t fully check previously, my car wireless charger/holder (3rd party) was working fine without the case (while I was waiting for the Apple store bought Otterbox Aneu (12 Pro Max). I thought I had tested it when I first put on the case - not sure now. However, it know only works without the case on. The witeless pad contacts the lower 2/3 of the phone. Moshi wireless desk charger works now (after the multiple restarts) with case -just need to ensure it is positioned correctly. The car charger worked fine with my XS max and case. Just disappointing to possibly have to purchase more accessories. Not a lot of mag safe car chargers out there yet. Risks if they are not Apple endorsed. I already had to buy the USB charger in order to use the mag safe charger (since not in the box of either).

Same problem here with my 12PM. I have the Apple, leather MagSafe case and the complete charge is sporadic. I, like another individual posted charge overnight and I may place it on the charger at 10-20% charge, and in the morning the phone either isn't charged or only half-way. I upgraded my older Nomad charging pad to the Nomad Base Station Pro to accommodate the iPhone, AirPods and watch. The Nomad "recognizes" the phone, the charging indicator led illuminates and everything seems fine. Then few minutes later it get a tome from the phone as if I had just placed it on the pad, then charging, then another tone...rinse, wash repeat.

I have placed the phone both in landscape and portrait and get similar results. The good news is that the Nomad Base Station Pro is firmware update compatible and they have released an update (FreePower® Software v1.0.4) for the 12 Pro series phones.

I'll update and provide a response tomorrow (or in a few days) to see if that solves the issue.

Updated the firmware on my Nomad Base Station Pro and placed the 12PM on the base to charge at around +/- 31%. This morning the phone was still charging and had only completed its charge to +/- 71%. Tonight I will test charging without the MagSafe Leather case. The positive in this is that I was able to get a "better" charge, but not a full charge.

MTF.

I’m running 14.3 (iOS public beta participant) and mine works after a hard reset but then eventually stops working on all 3 of my wireless chargers (two off brand multi service chargers and my Tesla factory installed charging pad in my car). My wife’s 12 Pro Max has no issue on any of the chargers. She is running 14.2 and both of us are using MagSafe silicon cases. Case removal without a reset has no bearing on bug fix for me.

For the past two nights I have been able to wirelessly charge (Nomad Base Station Pro) successfully to 100% with the MagSafe case on, but with one exception.

Since the wireless charging issue with the MagSafe case is indeed related to the "MAG"nets in the case, and since I like the blue leather case, I decided to do an experiment. I carefully used my hobby knife and removed the "felt" material covering the magnet portion on the inside of the case. Removed the magnet ring, replaced the fabric (the ring is still naked) and viola, charging has not been hampered with the case installed.

This solution is not for everyone, but if you like your case and are willing to give it a try, (who see's the inside of your case but you anyway???) it'll solve your wireless charging (with MagSafe case installed) issue(s), at least it did for me.
