iPhone 12 Pro Max not wirelessly charging

Received my iPhone 12 Pro Max today but it won't wirelessly charge on any of the three Q1 chargers I have. My XS Max and wife's X all work fine. Why is this? I have the Apple silicone case but with the case or without it still won't charge. Starts for a few seconds then the chargers flash a few times and it stops charging.

Have tried the following:

Erase Network Settings - Didn't work

Hard reset (Volume up / Volume down / hold power until Apple logo shows) - Didn't work

Seeing lots of similar posts on other forums. Perhaps the magnets are interfering and Apple just want you to get a Magsafe charger instead?

(Had to select iPhone 11 Pro Max for what device am I referring too as 12 Pro Max not listed)

I just bought my 12 Pro Max on Friday (11/13) and last night (11/17), the wireless charging stopped working. I found a video on YouTube that indicates that turning the phone off and then back on will temporarily resolve the issue and that installing iOS 14.2 will resolve it. I tried turning it off and back on and it did start wirelessly charging after that. Installing iOS 14.2 now. In the "About this Update" document, it indicate that the 14.2 release does fix the following issue (among others):

    • Devices could be prevented from charging wirelessly

Ok, just what others have said in the Amazon reviews.

“This has three very bright LEDs indicating which device/pad is charging. The description says that these lights turn off for a “Sleep friendly design”, very important since most of us charge our phones etc by our bed. However, the LEDs do not turn off. I sent the seller a message telling them this and they replied saying they would get back to me but I have waited almost a week with no reply.”

Could be an older model in the reviews or faulty ones of course although a few were saying the same thing.

I suppose it could be worth trying and if no good Amazon usually good having the items returned.

Seems to be the one I was looking at and the description at point 8. does mention the light.

Does you unit led’s go off entirely then, nothing left lit up once items all charging, watch AirPods, phone?

From the items description on Amazon:

8. For a full play to the charging effect, and people who are sensitive to light, it needs to leave this wireless charger faraway the bedside at night. (This light of the charger is a bit bright, though it can be a small guide night light to clear the dark)

Tke it than this light is only for a few seconds and then goes dark?

Thanks for advice anyway.

What charger did you use to correct this issue. Like another person posting here, I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and struggle to get the iPhone into a charging “position” on the Mophie (sold on the Apple store as compatible). I generally cannot get the phone to maintain charging when placed vertically, but usually (about 1/2 of the time) can get it to charge when placed sideways.

Workaround:

Completely power off the phone (not just sleep).

While it remains off, place it on the charging pad.

The phone will power on automatically and charge.

My 12 Pro Max wouldn’t charge with any wireless charger/power supply combo - but starting with the phone completely off makes the wireless charging work again. At least for me.

It’s not a permanent solution but ok for overnight charging. And it gives me hope this is software-fixable.

Also doesn’t require any network resets etc.

No it really doesn’t ‘charge correctly’ after a force restart. There’s enough people with issues for it to be recognised as a software issue with the 12’s and that’s it. We should not be having to work around issues trying a charge an iPhone, it’s absolute lunacy.

I had 2 nights of full charge then last night only to 96%. Life was a lot simpler before Qi came about ;) lol

In fact, I bought 4 IPhone12 pro max, other 3 work normally, and the wireless charging is also normal. Only my phone cannot be charged normally. I have tried several wireless chargers. Still unable to charge. After coming here to discuss it, I discovered that this is a problem that many people have. So Apple will not solve it for us? Is there no official reply?

I am as others in my household and office experiencing same issues even as we all updated to ios14.3

I spoke at length with senior apple tech and he was not aware of issues

after he researched apple knowledge base he encountered such problem

I feel apple has ignored the problem for quite a while possibly because there isn't a software fix and possibly hardware issue which would involve major recall of iphone 12 models

I was offered exchange very early on at launch with explanation that magnets not aligning that solution did not correct problem

subsequently I purchased 2 other devices along 12 line still same issues with all iphone 12 line

we have 7 QI wireless bases and they all fail at one point or other

when can we expect fix? is this going to be ignored until new 13 model rollout? is this to induce purchase of magsafe charger?

also very strange all my tech support calls are documented and I receive email with case number however this particular 90+ minutes call was never emailed back with case number

I think apple should take this issue in more serious manner and provide solution expedited

It is up to us consumers to communicate with urgency

I had the charging problems until a started using a NANAMI stand charger and no problems. My old charger vebach was not working but discovered my new case for some unknown reason would not keep charging however by accident found it works if phone face down. My wife’s 12 has no problems my phone is a 12 pro max. The Nanami is less than 20 dollars on amazon and is faster than my old charger it has fuel coils.

Under Australian Consumer Law, if the product does not perform its intended purpose (aka wireless charging as advertised - not wireless charging with only mag safe products), you should be entitled to a return/refund. Considering a charger was not included in the box, I believe a request for refund would be valid. I recommend using this terminology when requesting support from Apple. Just make sure that your third-party case is not impeding the charging ability.

Suddenly my new iPhone 12 Pro Max wouldn't charge on any of my QI chargers, nor the MagSafe charger. I had just bought a "fast charge" QI charger and thought it wasn't working so sent it back to Amazon today for refund. Then tonight I decided to investigate the charging issue and after seeing your comments, ended up chatting with Apple Tech Support. They asked me to rebooting iPhone and ,its now charging fine with all QI charges and the MagSafe charge too. Tech support person told me I shouldn't have to reboot frequently and hopefully tonight's reboot fixed the issue, but I told her I dont want to nor should I have to reboot again for this particular issue. She told me to lets wait and see before we throw the phone out...not an appropriate comment, but told her I wasn't going to throw my phone out! Jeesh. Anyway, thank you very much! I saved your link as I too have AirPods and Iwatch so this may be a future purchase.

I'm not sure I'm following your question? To clarify (and hopefully answer you), when we got both the 12 and 12 Pro Max, we were having issues using the older wireless chargers. We had to reboot too often or if we forgot, wake up to phones which didn't charge. So I did some research, read a lot of articles about the charging system in the new phones and realized the charging coil has been repositioned in the new phones for the MagSafe charging system. Yes, MagSafe is Qi standard, but moved to the exact center of the back of phone. Most older chargers suffer from two issues. They may only have one charging coil, positioned not well for where the charging coil is in the new phones. And two many older chargers don't employ QC3.0 charging bricks with enough power to effectively charge the new phones.

So, the solution was twofold. Get a new charger with dual charging coils and uses QC3.0 charging bricks with enough power to charge the phones. Since doing that now, more than 3 weeks ago, we've had zero charging issues and have not needed to force restart the phones.

If that didn't answer your question, please let me know.

Same here. I thought I was the only person having issues or that I was doing something to short out the wireless charging however I also purchased a brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max and after having it about a week the wireless charging stopped working. Took it to the Apple store and they swapped it out. The wireless charging worked fine for 3 days and I’m back to it not working.
