iPhone 12 Pro Max not wirelessly charging

Received my iPhone 12 Pro Max today but it won't wirelessly charge on any of the three Q1 chargers I have. My XS Max and wife's X all work fine. Why is this? I have the Apple silicone case but with the case or without it still won't charge. Starts for a few seconds then the chargers flash a few times and it stops charging.

Have tried the following:

Erase Network Settings - Didn't work

Hard reset (Volume up / Volume down / hold power until Apple logo shows) - Didn't work

Seeing lots of similar posts on other forums. Perhaps the magnets are interfering and Apple just want you to get a Magsafe charger instead?

(Had to select iPhone 11 Pro Max for what device am I referring too as 12 Pro Max not listed)

I just bought my 12 Pro Max on Friday (11/13) and last night (11/17), the wireless charging stopped working. I found a video on YouTube that indicates that turning the phone off and then back on will temporarily resolve the issue and that installing iOS 14.2 will resolve it. I tried turning it off and back on and it did start wirelessly charging after that. Installing iOS 14.2 now. In the "About this Update" document, it indicate that the 14.2 release does fix the following issue (among others):

    • Devices could be prevented from charging wirelessly

If you mean ‘solved’ by the fact you’ve bought something else, then it’s not solved is it? Whilst your charger may work, the iPhones should work anyway with what we have. IF Apple had stated there would be compatibility issues then all of our arguments would be mostly invalid, however they did not and as such, any iPhone 12 that has Qi charger issues is faulty on Apple’s fault. I shouldn’t have to spend more cash on new chargers to fix Apple’s faulty software or iPhones.

For us in the UK as well, buying a new charger means £41 and then £16 for a charger plug to power it. That in and of itself is unacceptable. Apple needs to fix the issues.

I don’t know why, but my 12 Pro Max seems to be charging again now properly and I’ve done nothing to change it.

N.B. I appreciate your link to the Geekera charger that works, but I’m not spending more cash when this fault lies with Apple.

I’m in the process of sending a changer back that was purchased directly from Apple. Told them not paying for something that is stated compatible with IPhone 12 series and it clearly is not.

It could be that enough people start sending the phones back as well they may listen or indeed enough publicly on “you need to buy a new specific charger if you want to wireless charge this series of phones.

My thinking is that the new hardware with the magnetic “ mag safe” ring is never going to

be totally fixed with just software and work with most Qi chargers. Apple at some point need to acknowledge that there is clearly a flaw in the existing design albeit there are probably changes in hardware already underway.

It’s the Mophie 3:1 which I’m waiting for UPS to collect. It would work some of the time on my wife’s iPhone 12 Pro and would occasionally work on the max but unacceptable for long term use and told Apple support as such. Spent ages with support checking phone remotely as well.

There are to many complaints on this issue and not just on this forum to say it’s the Qi chargers at fault, certainly no issues with the 10 XS max I had previously. Apple seem to have maybe concentrated on mag safe, in my opinion, and with the inevitable delays a due to COVID possibly robust legacy testing of Qi charging was not top of the pile? Who knows what the answer is, Apple seems not to know or turning a blind eye to something which may not be fixed until IPhone 13.

If it works for you then “good for you” but the rest of us with ongoing issues will pursue the matter until some sort of resolution. Perhaps Apple will give us all official options on charging solutions other than mag safe?

I see many comments that the problem is certain chargers. This does not seem to be the case for me. I have various types of wireless chargers around my home and when the phone decides it doesn’t want to wirelessly charge...none of them work. I have updated my phone to 14.3 iOs and am still having the same issue. My phone will wirelessly charge on any of my chargers and then randomly it will no longer wirelessly charge. This happened in the middle of the night last night. The phone charged to 100% while on the wireless charger and then stopped charging. So, up one waking this morning, the phone was at 85% after being on the charger all night. (I checked the phone at 3am and it was 100%.) Each time this happens, I reboot the phone and it starts charging correctly. The problems occurs with or without my case (purchased from Apple) on the phone. This is extremely frustrating! Apple please comment and let us know what you are working on with this!!!!

Adding my experience to the pile.

I still continue to have these issues post 14.3, and like others a hard reset brings it back. It is frustrating.

I believe that this is an issue occurring when using certain MagSafe accessories (such as the wallet, car mount, etc). MagSafe can disable charging for certain accessories (such as the wallet), so this appears to be a bug where when the accessory is removed Qi is not being enabled again.

But the fact that this is solved with a reset means that (hopefully) this is just a software problem which may be fixed in the future. Though it may be possible that the phone doesnt register the accessory being removed, which would be a harder problem to solve.

And this is pure speculation. I don’t know too many people with this issue but they all have some kind of accessory.

I also have the iPhone wireless charging problems and have an open case with Apple. The products affected are iPhone 12 pro, iPhone 12 pro max, and iPhone 11. I purchased a Moshi Q wireless charger and Moshi USB C 18w power adapter 2 weeks ago. It charged the phones for about a week then stopped charging. I then bought Apple’s mag safe and USB C 20w power adapter. I was surprised that they also would not charge either phone (with or without the cases). I then took the Apple mag safe/adapter back to the store. Two sales agents tried using the mag safe/adapter to charge their iPhone 12s but were unsuccessful. We then tested a different new Apple mag safe and Apple power adapter - again no success. I have reported the problem to Apple. I have tried full iPhone shut downs and restarts but that proved ineffective. Apple support asked, and I allowed them to collect data and logs files from the phones. Their initial reviews showed no errors. Everything appears to to be working properly. The case has been passed it on to engineering. Hopefully Apple can solve this soon otherwise I will be returning the wireless charging products.

I bought an iPhone 12 Pro and it has not charged wirelessly once with my previous wireless charger. I even bought the clear apple mag safe case hoping that it would help but to date it has not worked properly. It starts charging when place on the charger bu then stops a few seconds later.. We have paid for a device that does not even work properly. I think apple should be allowing people that bought iphone 12 pros with the wireless charging issue to return their devices for new ones. At the bare minimum they should be communicating with consumers that they are aware of the problem and working on a software update that will fix the problem.

I totally agree with you. I spent way to much time chasing with someone to report my problem (which I already knew was an issue) only to have them say, I guess I'll have to pass you along to an expert advisor, or whatever language they use. Set up a telephone appointment for the next day. Then my battery died and I missed the first call. They call back a second time and I could not answer-they never sent me a follow up email so I could reschedule the appointment! We paid a lot of money for this phone (and the charger). AND-I already had to replace the first one because it didn't work properly. Come on, Apple!
