WiFi Speeds (iPhone 12 Pro Max)
Anybody else having slow or inconsistent WiFi speeds on iPhone 12 Pro Max? I know it’s not my WiFi because all my other devices work as usual including my iPhone X which is still have/upgraded from.

I finally solved the ridiculously slow wifi speed (just got my iphone 12 pro max today).
Turns out my VPN was kicking in while trying to configure/test everything else out.
Bottomline: I had to use cellular data to download the VPN (because it was only partially downloaded), then once it was downloaded, i disabled it. Then.... voila... wifi speed was back to "crazy fast"
Just a thought.... look at your VPN (to if you can disable it)
worked for me.
I found this guide, I tried turn OFF Wi-Fi Networking Services and now my iPhone 12 Pro Max WiFi connection it's the same for other my device.

Not yet, further testing on my phone 12Pro Max and Ipad Pro shows the same problem, lower than max speeds on downloads.
So to me now it is looking like an IOS issue (more than any hardware issue).
I've tried a number of things with routers, resetting, power down, hard boot on phone, privacy off.. same result my 2015 Mac book Pro still on the same wifi and location still out performs the download speed by a good margin i.e. 49Mbits-36Mbits.
Any fix so far guys?
i’m from Romania ...
8-900mb on 11 Pro Max and 11, now 4-500mb on 12 Pro Max. I know for sure my network is good since i renewed all routes and cable’s changed with CAT6e last week! Two Huawei Ax3 Pro in bridge ..
One strange thing I’ve noticed is that my main router is now always slower then the one in bridge ( or not main ).
more like, main router slow and the other one working properly!!!! 🤷🏻♂️
Im having the same issue, I recently upgraded to the iPhone 12 pro max, and have an iPhone X as my work phone. I installed this week an eero wifi system which lets you confirm where the device is connected to and to which bandwidth. Everytime my iPhone X has beaten my IPhone 12 Pro Max on speed tests. 30-40 mbps more. Has someone figure it out?
I have discovered the same issue with my 12 Pro running the latest software. Using Speed Test my download speed via wifi on the 12 Pro is 113 mbps. Over ethernet the download speed on my wired network is 230 mbps (which is what I should be getting). My new Gen 8 iPad via wifi is the same as my 12 Pro.
My old iPad Gen 5 averages the same speed via wifi as ethernet (230 mbps). It should be noted that this iPad is also running the latest software (14.2).
The history log on the Speed Test app on my 12 Pro shows that when I ran a wifi speed test shortly after getting the 12 Pro (at the end of October) it was hitting at 230 mbps.
I would say that this issue would seem to be tied into a software change.
I just installed the 14.3 public beta on my iPad Pro and it did not resolve the WiFi speed issue. I hope they resolve it in some kind of update. The full update log did not mention anything about WiFi improvements.
I had deleted my NordVPN app and the speeds didn’t change. However using NordVPN service somehow improved the speeds a little bit. This is either a bug in the software of iOS or hardware firmware bug.
I wasn’t referring to your post, but to several other posts in the forum that were removed, where posters commented on things they had encountered with the beta. A beta is not one version; it is typically a series of releases, from 3 or 4 to over a dozen for some major beta versions, and something commented about one of the interim releases may not be valid for another one. Registered beta testers have a way to report issues so they can be addressed (and they should report them; that’s the whole point of beta testing), but posting in a public forum is not permitted.
Had the same darn issue. Couldn’t get WiFi working on my month old 12 Pro Max tried everything. I just updated to 14.3 and there is a new option under WiFi.
Under your option to auto join your WiFi network there is a new option for a private WiFi address. It was already chosen. un-chose it and now no issue !!! I’m on my home network so I don’t need a private WiFi address. I never saw that option before. It really messes me up for a good few days. Was ready to return.
I have same exact setup as yours! The Apple store won’t be able to do anything if this is a modem firmware issue. It is either that or a different software bug in iOS. LTE seems to work better than iPhone 11 but wifi is worse!

This is probably the most accurate description of the issue I have now along with dropping/unstable WiFi speed.
After updating to iOS 14.3 iPhone 12 pro max is failing to connect to the nearest wifi point and I need to turn wifi of and on or airplane mode on and off to reconnect to the nearest wifi point which is wired wifi point. Let me give you example, if I go to my garage, obviously my wifi speed there is not as great as inside the house so I have high ping and low speed. When I go inside the house and to my office where I have wired wifi point, speed test still shows me high ping and low speed which is unusual because it should automatically connect to the fastest wifi point. Only after I turn WiFi off and on it will reconnect to my wired wifi point and my ping is low and speed goes up as it supposed to do by itself.
I have an old Pixel 2xl that’s getting 240mb down on my home WiFi but my new iPhone 12 Pro Max only get 40mb. I checked my wife’s and sons iPhone 12 Pro Max and they only get 40 - 45mb as well. Not sure if it’s the chipset in the phones or we need to update the the chips.
SIOSER,
Apple is diligently aware of battery life in the iPhone 12 products because 5G is known to use more power. It seems plausible to me that in the iPhone 12 IOS, each overhead feature including WiFi was modified to subscribe to battery drain alerts and to reduce operations that consume power when battery drain may be an issue.
When I was testing poor WiFi performance on my iPhone 12 Pro Max before I returned it, I discovered that turning off cellular would restore WiFi performance. At the time that seemed curious to me as there should be no interaction between cellular and WiFi.
If my battery conservation theory is true, turning off cellular would reduce battery drain and WiFi would receive an alert to allow it to restore the full WiFi probe functionality. Reducing WiFi probes to save battery life would not be on my list of ways to contribute to better battery performance. Note: all of this is pure speculation on my part and I wish that I had access to a WiFi signal analyzer to check out my theory.

I had the same slow WiFi when I switched from my old iPhone to my new one. This migration took over the known wifi connection, like many other things.
It didn’t matter to reboot the phone or set on/off the WiFi, this didn’t improve the WiFi speed.
But when I completely removed the WiFi from the existing connections. And reconnected again with password etc, I got back my expected WiFi speed. 🙂
Qualcomm is significantly better modems than Intel in previous generations of iPhone. I have coverage in places that I didnt have prior. Same carrier and location too. It is not a cheaper modem. They just didn't clearly do enough testing to ensure it is very efficient at performance. I am not sure if the wifi card is integrated into the cellular modem. If they are using AX Intel chipsets that would be why it is poor performance.
