WiFi Speeds (iPhone 12 Pro Max)

Anybody else having slow or inconsistent WiFi speeds on iPhone 12 Pro Max? I know it’s not my WiFi because all my other devices work as usual including my iPhone X which is still have/upgraded from.

I finally solved the ridiculously slow wifi speed (just got my iphone 12 pro max today).

Turns out my VPN was kicking in while trying to configure/test everything else out.

Bottomline: I had to use cellular data to download the VPN (because it was only partially downloaded), then once it was downloaded, i disabled it. Then.... voila... wifi speed was back to "crazy fast"

Just a thought.... look at your VPN (to if you can disable it)

worked for me.

Hi I'm also having the same poor WiFi speeds on my iPhone 12 Pro Max.

My 2015 MacBook Pro on 5G WiFi band is almost twice as fast.

My MacBook Pro recorded 49Mbits down and Iphone 12 Pro Max, 24.1Mbits close to half on the 5G Wifi band. My router is wireless n, but sufficient for my ISP plan in Australia.

I've also upgraded the OS to 14.2.1

My previous Iphone X before I upgraded also achieved similar to MacBook Pro.

It would appear that we have a common problem for such a fast processor and the latest tech it is more than a coincidence that the WiFi speeds are half.

No good enough for such an expensive phone!

No sooner than I wrote that update, i retried my test in my office and saw amazing 480Mb/s suddenly. (nothing physically changed that i know of ) I did reboot router and satellites last night. But coincidently I see now a 14.3 update is available for download to my phone. I'm going to wait to update though until i can repeat the issue more frequently to know what is fixing it.

thans WildClyde. That seems like most likely related symptom for me too. I have mesh and all things now being equal and repeated attempts. Notice differences moving around house and trying to force rejoin to different satallites all on same ssid. In one area of house things improve. And one time I even saw 490MB/s. It’s not a complete show stopper for me and i no longer have my prior phone to go back to. So hoping they will fix. 14.3 didn’t fix.

They shouldn’t conflict (they don’t in any other models). The frequencies aren’t that different; 2.4 GHz for Wi-Fi, 2.6 GHz for BT. And the 5 GHz is twice the middle frequency of the low band and BT, and I’m sure the microwave designers took advantage of that (I would, if I was still designing microwave systems). I don’t think the problem is in the chip, but it could be related to power consumption of the chip.

But the fact that the Wi-Fi problem occurs whether there is a BT device connected or not would argue against that being the issue, because BT is not transmitting when there is no device connected.

iPhone 12 Pro Max->Reset Network Settings-> Switched WiFi "off"-> 5G Data Roaming set On-> Use More Data on 5G set.

Solely connected to 5G Verizon Broadband-> 4.1mbps.

Switched to Wifi 5Ghz router bandwidth + Cellular ->> got 100mbps

This device is less than 30 days old. The camera technology is STELLAR...."but" why is the Broadband reception so poor?

& Please spare me the derogatives about Verizon.

Well at least it’s not just me. We pay for 1Gb service and consistently get >700 mbps speeds across our WiFi on all devices.

Unless you have a brand new WiFi 6 router and all your other devices are WiFi 6 and within ten or so feet of the router, you are not seeing 700 Mbps speeds unless your speed test is lying to you.

For most people with 5 GHZ WiFi and Gigabit service you will in most cases see no more than 600 Mbps down over WiFi compared to 940 Mbps or so via a wired connection.

Something like this is more typical:
