I bought my iPhone from the T-Mobile retailer, mine was manufactured during the 2nd week of December and I received it and saw that the contrast and the screen had a overall yellow tint. Instantly got annoyed about it, but kept thinking about it and decided to order one from Apple directly. I received it today and it seems like the new one is a lot better, the contrast and the grays and blacks look a lot darker. However, the white is still a bit warm, but is a very minor problem now. I think Apple might be fixing it slowly through the manufacturing process. I would recommend to exchange or return and purchase it again to get a different batch and try your luck

Exactly; it’s easy to remove personal bias in viewing and compare to calibrated screens.

“True” means accurate. So True Tone is now falsely named.

If we want warm and less eye strain we can select the adjustable night mode. Why force “soothing” inaccuracy on us all?

if I want to look at my pictures of a cloud on a sunny day, coral sand or snow, I don’t expect them to look yellow (or blue).

the filters don’t fix it fully. They are a bad compromise.

I completely disagree with you.

If you decide to remove the true tone, you should see the real white in all conditions of the ambient and of the brightness.

It's the customer that shall decide if add or not some special effect on the screen.

It's not good and disappointing having 1,2k€ phone (or more) and seeing the picture in a wrong way where the cheapest mobile-phone (even the one paid less than 100€) shows a better view!

I can understand where you're coming from. I do agree that it should be left up to the consumers, whether or not we want a softer tone of white and True Tone seemed to have been the option to achieve that. However, that doesn't seem to be the case in the 12 line up. Reading through this all, I do have a concern if it is faulty hardware for some are saying they have remedied the problem through numerous exchanges. That is something I do not look forward to. So I will have a chat with Apple Support and see what they say.

I've never liked Tru Tone. I even turn it off on my Mac. It really should be called Warm (on) vs Cool (off). There's certainly nothing "true" about it, when everything looks yellow.

As a further update to my post above, I'll say that my new replacement device's battery seems to run down very quickly. On the previous device, the battery lasted a very, very long time. On the new device, the battery is draining super fast (dropping 4% every few minutes). 😡

I might factory reset it again to see if that resolves the issue. But, end of the day, why are new devices problematic straight out of the box? Ugh.

Hi Holly_Dolly. That was great input, thanks! May I ask how vast the difference is between the device you returned and the one you have now as it pertains to the severity of the yellowish tint? I don’t believe my device has it nearly as bad as others who have posted on here. I’m curious because you stated on your new device, you noticed that you still see a softer tone of white when the screen brightness is darker and more vibrant white when as it gets brighter, all with True Tone set to off. I am noticing that on my device so now I’m wondering if overall, no matter what, the screen tone overall is softer than other devices. So it sounds like your replacement iPhone is more like the one I have now.

You know what I’ve noticed? It seems as if my screen still changes in tone depending on my environment even when True Tone is turned off. It’s as if the sensor that controls True Tone is either faulty or not programmed properly. To my knowledge, no change in tone should happen with True Tone off despite what lighting environment I’m in. I’m literally sitting in my car, in the shade as I’m typing this... looking at a very warmly toned white background. It was as white as can be up in my apartment. True Tone is off. If I set it to on, it turns white. Yet if I go inside, it will turn really yellowish. I don’t know if this is actually a hardware flaw or software. Anybody else experiencing this?

As I’ve stated before, I am an IT professional and virtually ran my private contracting IT business for 4 years on that iPhone 7 Plus. It was truly a freaking workhorse. I use Apple because still, overall, I feel that iOS is more stable with usage over time. Android is like the Windows of phones (of course now with the demise of Windows Mobile), because so many manufactures make devices running Android versus only Apple products running iOS. With that said, nothing had beaten Apple customer service due to that. That, I feel... has since changed. It is unacceptable for us to just have to accept inferiority in an Apple product because most who own iPhones now have been Apple users for years.

As far as your photos from the 12, Pixeldust... are you viewing then on the phone screen itself or have you been able to view them on other devices as well? Because if you’re telling me that photos are messed up too, with the camera being the total selling point of this lineup after 5G... then that’s totally unacceptable!

Perhaps its just me, but over the last few iOS updates, the screen on my launch day 12 Pro Max is decidedly whiter than when I got the phone. Apple may not have listed anything in the release notes, but at least for me, my phone's screen appears whiter. Certainly it's not at all objectionable to me, that's for sure. And I don't use now, nor have I ever liked True Tone, since True Tone first came out, before the new iPhone 12 releases.

I don't think it's over-sharpened, but it has too much contrast. It makes the photo look darker to give it depth, but it just looks over-processed to my eyes. I work a lot with Photoshop and I would have to increase "clarity" and "contrast" to get a similar look on a raw photo. I'm not crazy about it.

I'm going to update to 14.4 to see if there's a difference in the warmth or yellow tone. I'll report back.

My 7+ is great but it's had its share of problems, mostly to do with audio, with people not hearing me well enough. I'm not sure why and that's why I upgraded, plus the better camera on the 12.

I was considering the S21 Ultra from Samsung but I'm just not crazy going back to Android. Despite being rigid, iOS is a cleaner look and less buggy. Otherwise, S21 has a better deal, better camera, less expensive, not a yellow screen, plus they're offering extras like headphones, S pen, and a free case. Oh, and my 7+ is worth more to Samsung for a trade-in and worth $100 less to Apple. Rip off at every turn...
