I bought my iPhone from the T-Mobile retailer, mine was manufactured during the 2nd week of December and I received it and saw that the contrast and the screen had a overall yellow tint. Instantly got annoyed about it, but kept thinking about it and decided to order one from Apple directly. I received it today and it seems like the new one is a lot better, the contrast and the grays and blacks look a lot darker. However, the white is still a bit warm, but is a very minor problem now. I think Apple might be fixing it slowly through the manufacturing process. I would recommend to exchange or return and purchase it again to get a different batch and try your luck

my mini is like that, just a very light hue not as dark. As mentioned above, my iphone 11 pro max shows a perfect nice white compared side by side to this 12 mini. I wonder if your iphone 8 screen is just getting old or broke since this issue is up and coming for the 12 series. Did you check your true tone and color filters? back up and reset?

True, mine did, too. After I turned off "True Tone", the yellow tint got better -- it felt like it was gone... But that was until I held the 12 pro max side by side next to my old 11 max pro and saw the faulty colors of the 12 pro max. So no, it doesn't really get better unless you have no other older iphone to compare it with. Please post if you find otherwise.

Thanks to previous suggestions, I was able to apparently “correct” my iPhone 12’s yellow tint problem. Still, I am worried this could be a hardware problem (eg. poor display quality). So, should I keep it or return it? Not sure...

The solution was to:

1) Keep True Tone on;

2) Turn on “Reduce White Point” and set it to 25%;

3) Turn on “Color Filters”, select Color Tint, set Intensity to minimum and HUE to about 60% of its level.

I am attaching two pictures showing the adjustments above. Hope it helps!!

That's subjective. The screen on my iPhone 12 Pro Max is not a WHITE WHITE WHITE, it's a warmer shade of white, like a piece of paper in a notebook. It's a more natural white as opposed to a stark white.

To be honest, I'm less concerned about how white the background is in something. I care more how photos look as in are they accurate in their color presentation and to my eyes, they are spot on.

I suggest everyone wait until the next update is released and then see.

The yellow tint also affects iPhone 12pm camera’s performance!!!

I got rid of the yellow tint on my 12mp per setting adjustments you can find online and also on this discussion thread.  After convincing myself that I can deal with a practically grayish whiteish screen color compare with my old 11pm, I took both phones to an outdoor shoot.  While the 11pm was true to the colors of the footages I took, the 12mp exhibited faint, non vibrant colors. The photos had washed off colors compare to what nature looked like.  The 11pm photos on the other hand were all true to the colors (ie what you see is what you get in the photo!).

What was more disturbing is that when I airdropped an image from  the 12pm to the 11mp, the colors of that image (on the 11mp) looked washed off. However when I airdropped an image I took on the 11pm to the 12pm, the image was not as bad as a similar taken on the 12pm but not as good as one taken on the 11pm - that is because of the compromised screen adjustments due to the yellow tint issues we are discussing here

There are so many things I like about the 12th - Nevertheless it’s time to return it and go back to the old 11pm until Apple figures out these issue and fix them. I highly doubt that a software fix will take care of those issues this time around, but let’s stay hopeful.

Well well.. now when I followed tips mentioned on one of the Reddit forum realized its not screen issue...its software basically set to conserve battery!!!! Unless you are really have bad oled

how to test:

turn off : true tone, auto brightness

set the brightness to max.. and then you compare with prior models

oled on iphone 12 max is much much brighter and vibrant!!

attached image: both device auto brightness , true tone off, brightness max

xr on left , 12 pro max right

One note text from another group

sorry I reposted it to the wrong group(!!!)

Yes it is troubling!

In summary, it looks like all 12pm are having these issues. The variations in the responses on this thread are due to the fact that some notice them and some don’t. Some have another iPhone side by side to compare with and some don’t. Without another iPhone next to my 12pm I love it not being so bright to read text (note: like many others I tweaked the screen it to make the yellow tint whitish-grayish). I’d keep it if I didn’t care about photography. However, I believe that most ppl who got this phone also care about photography, and by nature pay more attention to those colors variations. While I still have it (didn’t returned it yet, but I’m about to). I played with it some more. I took an photo on it  edited it to my satisfaction. However, after editing, when I airdropped it to the 11pm iphone it looked hideous — like a face with way too much colorful makeup, if you will. Not a desirable result from >$1k phone. Apple can do better and whey should!

I have had my iPhone12pro for one week now and came to the conclusion that it is the glass or the coating on the glass that give the yellow tint. Changing the viewing angle slightly right to left or up down give a more neutral white image than looking at it straight on. Also reflections on a black (turned off) screen from white light from above (ceiling light for example) give yellow reflections. Same experiment with my iPhone6 and the reflections are white. I visited three different stores where I put up (in total 8) other iPhone 12 next to mine and compared them with the exact same display setting. To my surprise they were all different! This is (lack of) quality control not expected from a premium brand! And in this group mine was the most yellow. My 12pro will be returned.

Ok, two things.

plenty of people on here explain these use calibrated screens etc. this isn’t a preference for blue white. It’s people not wanting their phone to look like it’s lit by candlelight. Because their PC, last phone, iPad etc all look white and this looks yellow.

my opinion. There were issues with some early panels. I’m on my 3rd phone and this one is only yellow with True Tone on. The other two were mild yellow with True Tone off. And they were less bright than my iPhone X. That was a hardware issue.

now I have a phone that is bright and white with True Tone off. But very yellow with True Tone on.

that could be IMO 1) faulty True Tone sensor 2) software issue.

given they have True Tone right on my iPad and X, I’m surprised they would get this wrong in software on the 12, and it would be easy to fix. So I’m guessing sensor just on that logic.

they can’t do a software fix globally if they don’t know which sensors are affected or they will have a bunch of users suddenly with a cold looking display.

I compared my second iPhone Pro Max with everything that I own. I have a Macbook Pro 2018, one iPhone X, two iPhones Xr, one iPhone 8, also Samsung QLED TVs. Compared to all my devices, my current 12 Pro Max couldn't reach the same white balance of all the devices. For this I turned off True Tone, Night Shift, Auto-Brightness and Color Filters. It is no acceptable and I don't think it will be fixed by Apple. My first 12 Pro Max was yellower and dimmer than the second. The same happened with the 11 Pro Max and it was never fixed. The only difference if taht with the 12 Pro Max the situation is worse.
