I bought my iPhone from the T-Mobile retailer, mine was manufactured during the 2nd week of December and I received it and saw that the contrast and the screen had a overall yellow tint. Instantly got annoyed about it, but kept thinking about it and decided to order one from Apple directly. I received it today and it seems like the new one is a lot better, the contrast and the grays and blacks look a lot darker. However, the white is still a bit warm, but is a very minor problem now. I think Apple might be fixing it slowly through the manufacturing process. I would recommend to exchange or return and purchase it again to get a different batch and try your luck

My concern is not so much the deeper yellowing when True Tone is enabled. Like I mentioned these OLED panels have reduced blue light filtering from past panels hence why comparing a previous IPhone OLED panel to the current generation is moot.

Having said that, my slight annoyance is a slight pink tinge on the lower inch or two of my panel. In essence , uniformity is my only gripe to be honest.

Thank you Holly_Dolly. That describes to a tee how much my device and most of the others I’ve compared with my clients, behave. It’s almost as if there’s a hint of True Tone that is always on despite it being off (which I agree with you, True Tone doesn’t seem “true” to me and have always preferred it to be off). I do notice it to be quite a difference when I’m out and about and looking at the screens of others overall (all brands) and mine always seems softer in tone.

lobster,

Technically, anyone can come here and say what they like. But those of us who are here are either looking for helpful input on how to fix the problem or to commiserate. Otherwise, it's kind of pointless to come here to say one's happy with mediocre output by Apple? There, are plenty of individuals complaining about the issue everywhere.

Piggledust, I was reading some people complaining of this issue on twitter, saying what they see on their screen is very different to what posts online. This, coming from those who use the phone primarily for photo and videos. Many in YouTube comments who are photographers agree that the yellow tint and adjustments made via color palette changes how their final product looks.

I have an appointment next week to either exchange my phone again or return it. Leaning towards a return. It's too much hassle for something this expensive.

I also just got my new iPhone 12 and I noticed the yellowish screen immediately. Then I tried putting my iPhone XR side by side and was shocked, I really thought that the night shift or True Tone where on, but no... and to make it even worst, if you move your phone up and down ou sideways you can literally see  the colors changing to blue! From yellow to “normal”. Apparently it’s normal, a lot of people are complaining about this problem. No need to go complain bc they won’t do anything about it. I’m shocked, this is really disappointing. If I knew I probably wouldn’t have gotten it. Hope apple fixes this, at least the yellow screen.

I went out asked a few people and compared some iPhone 12s out there. Some were even yellower so, yea, it is apparently an issue. At the store they would give me a “refurbished” one (you know, the ones you get when you go repair) so I preferred to keep the yellow tinted phone and get used to it.

To those complaining about Apple, I’m with you (in a way that Apple used to be better) but where would you go instead? Android? I personally prefer an iPhone 6s over the latest Android phone 🙈

I'm preparing to pack up my iPhone 12 pro max 256G model and return it due to the yellow tint. Apple needs to find a solution by the 27th (received Nov 13 + 14 day return window) or I'm done. Right now my iPhone 7 plus with it's LCD has much better colors than this fancy new OLED screen.

I can improve the tint by turning off "true tint" and "night shift" and also by using color adjustments under Accessibility but still that OLED can't produce a true white. Why spend $1500 to get a new phone that can't produce good color?

The yellow tint also affects iPhone 12pm camera’s performance!!!

I got rid of the yellow tint on my 12mp per setting adjustments you can find online and also on this discussion thread.  After convincing myself that I can deal with a practically grayish whiteish screen color compare with my old 11pm, I took both phones to an outdoor shoot.  While the 11pm was true to the colors of the footages I took, the 12mp exhibited faint, non vibrant colors. The photos had washed off colors compare to what nature looked like.  The 11pm photos on the other hand were all true to the colors (ie what you see is what you get in the photo!).

What was more disturbing is that when I airdropped an image from  the 12pm to the 11mp, the colors of that image (on the 11mp) looked washed off. However when I airdropped and image I took on the 11pm to the 12pm, the image was not as bad as a similar taken on the 12pm but not as good as one the Skender on the 11pm- that is because of the compromised screen adjustments due to the yellow tint issues we are discussing here

There are so many things I like about the 12th - Nevertheless it’s time to return it and go back to the old 11pm until Apple figures out these issue and fix them. I highly doubt that a software fix will take care of those issues this time around, but let’s stay hopeful.

I completely agree.

It seems a real luck of quality control.

It's not only the yellowish color and the other colors dead; but it is also the brightness: comparing my iPhone XR with 12 PRO you can see that the bright is really low (even iPhone7 has a better bright); but if you go to the APPLE website and compare the brightness technical data the 12 should have 800 nit (but even 1200 nit HDR max) comparing 625 of XR (putting all at the max bright).

The device in our hands are not according the APPLE specification.

Regarding the "solving the problem with a new iOS" I'm really scared that this could mean a drastically reduction of the battery duration: still today seems that the XR last longer than the 12 PRO (even if on the APPLE website we should have 1 hour more of video)...
